First game I quit because.....

.........of the forum moderators.

Its like a communist state over there on the forums. You even mention an issue that the Turbine forum moderators don't like and the thread gets closed.

I didn't violate any of their policies, just asked a few questions about opening new servers for new buyers (all current servers have been in since beta) which for some reason is a taboo topic. First thread was closed, couldn't understand why, so I made a second one and it was closed. Apparently free speech is not welcome by the LOTRO forum moderators.

I then make a post about how quick the moderators close threads for no solid reasons. Of course the thread ends with a lame attempt at subtle sarcasm from a moderator (straight from the WoW school of forum moderation) and a thread closure.  In years of playing MMO's I have never had a thread closed by a moderator, and here it is week 1 for me at LOTRO and 3 threads were closed. Innocent threads asking simple questions.

Its a really great game too, but I just cannot fork money over to a company that behaves like that.

Please provide a link to the locked thread in reference.  I peruse the website pretty regularly when I am at work and can't play and have not noticed that particular thread, would be interested in looking at it.

I find this very hard to believe.

Please provide links to these threads, and the name of the forum and the thread titles.

Honestly, I have no issue with their moderation. Much prefer a more heavy handed approach than the anarchy that exists on the SWG, WoW, or even these forums.

First of all, it is in the ToS that you are not to re-open a topic that has been locked.  You did that, and thus your second thread was locked. Because there was a solid reason (you re-posted a topic that was locked) your third post had no relevance.  The fact you do not accept the reason is not their fault.

As to why your first post was locked to begin with--there have been dozens of threads regarding that same subject, and they have given an answer to those threads.  The same people keep reposting the same topic regarding new servers. The matter is closed. It's that simple.

I recall the OP's posts that were locked.

They were locked with good reason.  The issue of new servers has been raised many times, and Turbine has answered the question saying that when they are going to release new servers they will let the community know, and that no further threads should be opened on it.  The OP continued to discuss the issue, and his thread was locked -- rightly, because Turbine has answered the question.

I'm glad that Turbine hasn't opened new servers "just because I want one".  If the population grows such that new servers are needed to accommodate the population, then I am all for it, but I'm not for the idea of new servers only for the reason of offering a "fresh start" -- it leads to population imbalances, which is bad for the existing servers.  Let the existing servers fill and then they will open new ones -- they are ready to do it when they need to do so, and posts like the OP's in the LOTRO forums are seen by Turbine as annoying nagging (rightly) and locked -- again, rightly, imo.
  • CognetoJoeCognetoJoe Member Posts: 446
so the op is most likely huff and puffing cause he didn't read what Turbine already repeatedly said and just made the 100th post about new servers only to be locked for a qualified reason.

So instead of admitting a mistake, the OP storms off like Turbine is the anti-crist of forum moderating.

    Thats no reason to quit...........

If you are going to quit do it because the game is a shitty clone of every other fantasy game on the market that offers little in the way of incentive to play for any long period of time.

Well OP, game supported forums should be heavily moderated, (sadly most aren't) and kept focused on discussions that are relevant.  You want more "freedom" then a forum like MMORPG.com is the place to come. (though I wish they'd moderate more and lock down the many redundant "I hate game xyz because it suxxors" threads we seem to get on a weekly basis.  ( I mean, who really wants to read another "WAR is like WOW" or "Is Darkfall Vaporware" thread?)

I realize you and many other people want a "fresh start" on a new server...so you can be "first" or "ahead" of everyone else.... was a dumb concept that really got escasberated in WOW and I"m glad to see Turbine hold the line on this.

When the existing servers are groaning at capacity... they should open new ones..and heck, give the people already playing on the full servers first crack at transferring their characters over to it.  That would stop the mass exodus of people looking to reroll on new servers.

Indeed, this should *always* be allowed when new servers are opened.  It should be driven by capacity, not by the need of someone to be "on par" with others, as this is a goal that is *never* attainable in an MMO.

Well since I cancelled my account the LOTRO website does not allow me to log in to the forums, even though my game subscription is still good until the 30 days runs out. For this reason, the site is not letting me search the old threads for my posts so I am sorry I cannot link them here.

Of course I expected to see the same old assumptions being made about "they can't make new servers for everyone that complains" and "you just want to be ahead of everyone". I couldn't care less about being "ahead". I bought the game new and didn't expect to be playing on the same servers with the beta crowd that has already had a chance to develop communites and economies pre launch. I wanted to start with a fresh community and no I don't expect them to launch a new server everytime someone buys a new game, but you can only launch once and I think a lot of us who bought the game new and are paying more each month than the beta crowd expected that we would have a chance to play a new game on a new server.

So this topic has been rehashed so much they have to close threads over it? The game was 2 days old when I posed the first question. Its great that they did something special for the beta crowd but I don't think new players should be expected to know what you guys have discussed or not discussed weeks before launch.

I usually don't say this about people but your first paragraph is a lie. How do I know? I used to subscribe and cancel accounts on the same day with Turbine(this was to ensure I only paid for 30days) and I was always able to log into the forums for the remainder of the 30 days.

Your complaint about opening new servers because the beta crowd is way ahead is also completely invalid. Beta players were only able to get to 15, an average player can get to 15 in no time.

So your saying that EQ, SWG, EQ2, UO, Eve, and all the games that have been out for a while should just randomly open new servers just because other people are now level 50 or whatever the cap is and have made some friends?

Some things never change :( The moderators on AC2 use to threaten to ban people for talk on OOC - looks like they never changed.

I rembember the OP's posts. The first one got locked then he posted the second one with a sarcastic title. Then the third one also with a sarcastic title and a pun at turbine. So he is not as innocent as he is trying to make himself out to be. When he got the answer he was looking for in his first post but it was not the answer he wanted so he kept posting.

I like the fact that turbine backs up the TOS for the forums. Not just post them and do nothing when it is violated.

Turbine are uptight pricks, I told someone in game to Die In Real Life.... And had a GM contact me about it twice, and then another different higher up GM contact me too lol....
  • HopfrogHopfrog Member Posts: 90

Well I normally don't say this but seabass your the one who is full of it. The login issue is well known.

    Taken from Turbine's webiste:

"On May 1st, all forums accounts that were not associated with a valid retail subscription were moved to the Expired usergroup. If you were previously posting with a forums account that is not currently associated with a retail subscription (e.g. Open Beta), you have probably found that you are no longer able to post with that account"

My complaint about the beta crowd being "way ahead"... you've obviously got a reading comprehension problem. It's not about being ahead, I though I made it clear it was about starting fresh as a community. I am not a powergamer.

And in response to your genetic equal Grindalyx:

My threads were titled "New servers for new players?" and "New players, new servers?"

    Yeah, that wreaks of sarcasm.

Its quite clear that most of you with hundreds of post will do anything to hear yourself talk, even if it is out of your butt.

Your an idiot. You do realize if Turbine hadn't done something to you and that person did die in real life for whatever reason lawyers would be up there ass with a lawsuit. You are just plain dumb.

You cannot, dumb ass... but i appreciate your thoughts and by that - I mean, no I don't at all.

Actually , in America, you could be sued if that person died, maybe 24 hours of when you typed that message. Some kind of conspircy charge would of been field by the family.

What a lame reason to quit, the forum mods have nothing to do with the game itself.

Hahaha, a lawsuit on what ground? Telling someone on the Internet to drop dead?

I don't know what scary ass lawyers you know, but that seems just a tad bit far fetched.

Hopfrog if you looked at our join dates then you would see that i have as many posts as i do cause i joined several years ago and you just joined this year. I do not post to talk out my butt. I do remember that the content of your second and third post was very sarcastic. Maybe the title wasn't. But hey we are all human and make mistakes i live up to mine.

I agree with everyone else that quitting a game cause the forums moderate you closer than any other forum is very childish and immature. You wanted a reason to whine and you got one and you couldn't do it on the LOTRO forums so you came here to find like minded people to whine with. I also noticed you didn't post the title of your third thread. Any paticular reason for that.

Here just to clear it up for people who don't understand lawyers.

You tell someone to die in RL. They go and kill themselves. The police conduct an investigation and find that someone told them to die in RL. The police find that the company in charge of the game did nothing to resolve the situation. They also figure out who it was that said it. Now it's in the lawyers hands and both parties would be at fault. The person who told them to and the company that did nothing to stop it.

Hopefully this clears things up so you understand where I am coming from. Also we all know lawyers can figure out a way to sue someone, no matter the situation.

Also you didn't tell them to drop dead you told them "To go die in REAL LIFE."

There are several lawsuits out there that you can search on the internet for similar cases.
