I  think the FEW that are promoting this idea fancy it because it sounds like it would be socially fun, but would soon realize it is less fun than grouping with friends all operating their own ships. The reality of players commiting to play together at the same time for the same length of time only appeals to the raiding gamers, and they are less than 15% of the marketplace. The mechanics of a multiplayer operated ship would require such a commitment all the time of most players and that doesn't appeal to most gamers.

I also don't think the option to choose either is good for game balance. Some will suggest it is easier to divide the tasks while others may claim that coordination is more difficult. But a well oiled group controlling a single ship would certainly have it easier and be more powerful than a single player operated ship. It's important for players to be on equal footing in a MMOG, especially one that offers PvP. Group coordinating players operating their own ships already have an advantage, but with locked instanced PvP encounters, at least a soloer has a chance.

As I'm sure it has been pointed out before only 30% of the ocean at any point will allow pvp.  In the remaining 70% you are welcome to solo all you want.

Okay so what would you be doing on a ship anyways?  Like, I'll be the captain so I control the ship...  So what are you gonna be doing on my ship?    Maybe you can light the fuse on the cannons, but I get to choose when you do that anyways, because Im the captain and I'm not gonna let you on my ship unless you do whatever I tell you to do.

Did I really see someone call the devs lazy because they didn't put this feature in the game? I'm sure they weighed the advantages and disadvantages of it before deciding not to do it.  I wholeheartedly agree with them on it. This seems like it would be superfluous.

I think it might be a fun feature...for a few minutes, but then people would realize that they aren't getting to do anything, especially the guy in the crow's nest.  He just yells out "land ho!" or whatnot.  What happens if he decides to log off while on your ship. When he logs back in, does he come back on your ship?  What if you are nowhere near where he wants to be or nowhere near where you started, how does he get back to his ship? It seems that the devs would have to spend a lot of time/resources working through all the scenarios, then they would have to make sure it was fun for everyone, etc...

I'd rather the devs concentrate on the main game play. 1000 missions!

Oh, we've figured out how to do it.  We just think it's a terrible idea, is all.

Terrible idea? Man I never would have guessed that being able to have my friends on my own ship would be a bad idea. It's just so exciting to have NPCS on your ship rather than real people. I also heard that the only place you can really go on land are towns, Is this true?

Yes, we think it's a terrible idea.  Sorry.  I've explained why so many times now that I feel like I should just make a macro to post a canned response.  You are, of course, free to disagree.

As for your second question: No, that is not true.  Take a few minutes and go look through our recent screenshots.  Beaches, jungles, mayan ruins, the decks of ships...

    I'll explain for you Isildur

The reason why going onto your friends' ships is a bad idea is because it leads to boring and uncompelling gameplay.

Why would you want to stand around on the deck of somebody elses' ship while you tied knots in rigging, cleaned planks, and sewed repairs into the sails, when you could be commanding your own ship, and blowing people out of the water?  What advantage would there be to having two players on one ship, rather than having two players with two ships?  There would be no real gameplay advantage, and it it would make for uncompelling and boring gameplay.  Everyone can have their own ship, there's no real reason for somebody to climb aboard somebody elses' except for the novelty of it.  And I would rather have them concentrating on core features rather than novelty stuff like boarding a friends' ship.

Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.

Isildur is a PotBS dev...I don't think he needs things to be explained for him.

I think you misunderstood Koolaider, or maybe I'm misunderstanding you.  I don't think he was trying to explain to Isuldur, or trying to do it better.  I think it is obvious that isuldur has explained himself/FLS's opinions about this topic on several occasions, and had expressed somewhat of a frustration in having to repeat himself so many times.  Think the guy/girl was just trying to help out.

SWTOR. Face it, in the Scooby Doo Mystery Solving Van of coolness, this game is Velma. In this current MMO climate it has about as much chance for survival as a group of inquisitive teenagers in a 1980s slasher flick. -Tardcore May, 2011

is the poop deck what i think it's for?

No that was done at the other end. Common sailors would balance upon the Head rails at the front of the vessel. It was common back then for a sailor in need of natures call to say "I'm gonna go talk to the figurehead"

This is the primary reason behind why the Navy still refers to the bathroom as a Head, and not a latrine, like the Army

Everyone says they would like to have their friends come on their own ship to give them orders. No one says they want to go on their friends ship and wait for orders. See where I'm going with this? :P

Let see how much you all know about the main [smudges] which however is the most important of em all, that where Vanguard failed, where Horizon failed and where Lotro already failed and most other mmorpg -- et-cetera.

But Potbs have the main [Smudges] and shall be good as gold.

What you think the main word shall be?.

Back to english kids. (included you Mods)

That is weak sauce man. I cant believe the Free to play pirates of the carribean online is going to allow multiple players per ship and this game that has been in development since THE DAWN OF TIME cant figure out how to do it doesnt instill me with much hope for this game. Im thinking just put sid meiers pirates as an onlime multiplayer and you basically have POTBS.
Pretty sad. I was really looking forward to this title. Guess i will play the free disney one instead.
    Are u an Idiot?
