think the players should know everything possible about this dark and light remake. this site used to be the best but now with your gold seller ads using your site to launch key loggers and what not is disturbing.

Yes, that is correct.  We are taking bribe money from SOE, Turbine, Sigil, CCP Games, NCSoft any many other companies according to so many of our tinfoil hat wearing members.  But shhh...because we cannot let each of these companies know about the other's deals or we will be in big trouble!

Now...if I could only find those keys to my yacht!!!

Funny how the admin broke MMORPG's own rule of conduct. Also funny how they ban others for the very same thing.

Absolutely, KariTR.  I think some serious intervention from the Administration is necessary in these forums.   You cannot shout "FIRE!" in a movie theatre, and you are not supposed to flame, troll, and just spout hatred on these forums.  Flaming and trolling is attracting more flames and trolls but dissuading reasonable people from using MMORPG, sharing information, and participating in the community.

Nevertheless, based on my experience in the game, whether positive or negative, Vanguard is such an enormous and complex game that an honest review would require a significant amount of time.  Further, the game is considerably different today from the game I played at release in terms of bugs, performance, the addition of solo and group content, etc.  (If you state this, the flames/trolls think this is a lie, you are a van boi, work for SIGIL).

I look forward to the review, actually.  I think MMORPG is an excellent source for information.  Healz... you have been at this all day... please..stop filling every VG thread with this tirade against flaming, trolling and the demand that everyone play nice here.  You haven't played VG at all today...go enjoy your game for a bit.....

I think all MMO's should be reviewed in several parts.... beta/release day first looks, updates after reviewers have a month or so in and the final review should come after the reviewer reaches the end game..(something you almost never see)

I don't believe for a minute that MMORPG.com is on SOE's payroll, but of course they do pay some of the bills in form of advertising so there's no reason for the site to be openly hostile to any game.... (heck, that's what the forums are for)

I have to say the reason for the hold up on the review is simple.  The game is lacking and they don't want to come out and give it the review it deserves. Can't think of any other reason TBH.  It took them forever to give D&L the review it deserved.

One more thing. For the amount of work Healz puts in these forums to stamp out the flames- pun intended.. Who here still thinks he is not part of the Brad spin fanclub? It's either that or he's going for the coveted Fanboi of the year award. Either way his fanboism is now bordering on a mental health issue.

I am simply trying to point out the difference between what the game was at release and what you say the game is today.  The two are quite different, and because I (or anyone else) states that we are subjected to personal attacks, our integrity is questioned, and we are flamed and/or ridiculed.

You said, "the reason for the hold up on the review is ... the game is lacking and they don't want to come out and give it the review it deserves."  You obviously dislike Vanguard, and I think that is completely acceptable and fine.

However, because my opinion is contrary to yours, you have flamed me by stating, "Brad spin fanclub?  It's either that or he's going for the coveted Fanboi of the year aware. Either way his fanboism is now bordering on a mental health issue."  You clearly make my point for me and it requires little commentary on my part.  I will let your flaming speak for itself.

You are actually right.  I do have you blocked, but for some reason it did not block your post.

I think it might be a bug; I have 15 people on block at this time, and it is important for me to do it.  I have a nasty habit of feeding and enabling trolls/flamers on MMORPG.  I usually prefer to confront the troll/hater, point out what the issue is, and then block and be permanently done with individual.  As it says in your margin, "do not pay retail for beta" or something.  I agree with you, but you should get over flaming/trolling people in the Vanguard forums.  Really.  You should.

Edit: I logged out and logged back in but the block feature is not working.
  • KraeneeKraenee Member Posts: 166
Well we all really can't wait for the block feature to work for you.

you'd think if they were arbitrarily going to delete posts that were anti-vanguard, they would for SURE target one that flames vanguard AND their site? no?

    but what do i know, i'm just a van-bois, i'm told.

"We aren't going to ... Period. End of statement."

    ya. ok. whatever.

but what do i know, i'm only a vanbois i'm told.

Could you please prove where Vanguard comes across as a complex game?

I find Puzzle Pirates to be more complex than Vanguard.

Or, since you obviously have no comprehension of what complex might be: take a look at Eve Online for comparison, it has about the same active playerbase as Vanguard, but infinitely more difficult.

To all: Having run the Vanguard client during beta, launch, and the remainder of a friend's account a week ago, could you tell me where Vanguard comes across as complicated? There really isn't anything to 'figure out' in Vanguard....

Now if the magic system were something like Arx Fatalis, then that might be complicated.

While complexity and difficulty are related I think you are getting a little confused here - though having never played EvE I can't use that game as a comparison..so I will use L2.

Like L2, VG allows your character to learn abilities as you advance in level. There the comparison ends. In VG you also have skill-ups from training skills, though granted in a very simplistic and somewhat static form - the only proactive choice you make within these skills are which weapon to use.

Then you have learned abilities - either from using skills in a particular sequence, or fighting a mob that practices said skills. Abilities  in VG are a lot more complex than your L2 skills, most having more than one effect by themselves as well as being used to even more advantage as part of a chain. Eg, as a Disciple I can use damage attacks that also heal, buff, add or reduce hate or cause weaknesses in mobs that other classes can take advantage of. Likewise, I can take advantage of weaknesses caused by attacks from other classes.

It is very easy to play VG simply by clicking your ability skill buttons without delving too much into what you are actually doing - I am sure many gamers play this way. It is however, quite another thing to know your skills intimately as well as those of other classes and for this I really do believe that VG earns it's "easy to learn, hard to master" tag.

For the little I have learned of crafting so far it is much the same as the Adventuring Sphere. On the surface it would seem to be "click buttons from left to right to progress," but once you advance beyond your starter quests - I am currently L12 - it is apparent that you have to know the underlying systems very well if you want to be anything other than mediocre.

Well, I'd say not directly from MMORPG staff.

But indirectly, it is well known that companies hire marketing firms and pay "shills" to increase "buzz" about games.

Dark and Light was famous for this, after several posters where beaming on great gameplay, etc and turned out they never played the game, and they were reading a weekly script. Musta not got paid that week heh.

    Meh, my two cents.

I don't think that this website overall is pro or con on Vanguard.

On the one hand they do seem to get some ads from Sigil and they print anything and everything that company does as "news" - things far too trivial to be covered for other games.

But on the other hand they allow people to express their opinions, both strongly pro and strongly con, here on the boards. Plus, for  the most part the moderation of these forums is pretty even handed and posters are given wider latitude than in many similar places.

I think there are a couple of "vanbois" on the staff, and sometimes they throw their weight around, but I don't see that as representative of mmorpg.com as a whole.

All in all I think we get treated pretty fairly here, which is why I hang out on these boards as opposed to more partisan ones.

EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

When I saw your first responce I noticed you don't carry the usual, "the views expressed blah, blah, blah"  quote that others working for this site carry.  Admin looks to be one of the olders registered names I've seen on this site in 3 years or more as well.  I assume you must be pretty high up in the company in some way.

    Anyways...

Highlighted part makes me cringe.  I imagine doing business with a company and hearing a member of thier upper management saying something like that to a potential customer.  Although it is undoughtedly true, it didn't really have to be said.  Not a nice thing to say at all.

And considering the staff writter in the VG forums that is very open about his dislike of the game, I would find it hard to believe that MMORPG is taking any money from Sigil or SoE.

    Unless its a cover up.

Edit:  Now if the staff writer that frequents the VG forums ends up being the one that does the review for VG, then I would say that the people here would have one hell of a valid complaint about the integrety of MMORPG.com as a media site.
