this game looks great but you cant swim!

in Pirates of the Burning Sea
how can you not swim in this game i read something 5min ago saying you cant swim i am very exited and am going to pre order today but i dont want to be on the beach and try to go in the water and have an invisible wall are you kiding me that would suck.  what do you guys think about this.

    As strange as it sounds, learning to swim back then didn't happen. This was for a few reasons. One being that if you knew how to swim just incase the ship went down then the ship would go down, bad omen, murphy's law, whatever. Another reason is that if the ship did go down they wanted quick deaths, swimming prolonged it. The didn't have rescue helicopters or radios so rescue wasn't really an option. So if in potbs you could go into the water after about nose deep you should drown and die.

    Would suck to fall into the water because of lag and see your galleon you just bought after saving for months sail away

    To solve this issue they could give everyone a free dolphin pet that they can hang onto and travel at amazing speeds. Maybe at later levels the dolphins could be upgradeable with jet packs giving them limited flight!

    I dunno about the historical accuracy, just seems a little strange you cant swim in a game that's all about ummm, water.

    Won't stop be from buying it, just seems a little off.

    I don''t really know when Humankind will die out but i''m guessing about 6 years before WOW.

    a sailor that cant swim? that's the most ridiculous thing i ever heard. does anyone have any links about this to confirm "historical accuracy" or is that just bs cuz it sure sounds like it.

    also every pirate movie i ever saw always had pirates that knew how to swim so i doubt they just didnt know how to back then. anyone who is gonna be on the water for any time should at least prepare themselves by knowing how to swim. if the ship never goes down they still might want to cool off given some free time.

    I heard they aren't going to let you spend two minutes stuffing packing, black powder, and a lead ball down the muzzle of your pistols before you fire a single shot!! completely ruins immersion for me. I mean come on whats the point of playing a game about pirates if we are incapable of catching scurvy too?!?!? WHERE"S THE REALISM PEOPLE!!!!

    i dont think anyone needs it to be that real. but swimming should be a given. i dont remember an mmo that didnt at least let me swim in the water nearby. and those games were not even about water related things. it's just common sense that sailors can swim.

    This seems like such a non-issue.  There's no reason for your avatar to be in the water.  If my ship sinks, I'd rather be teleported back to land (through a quick cutscene or implied game mechanic showing my rescue by an allied vessel or some similarly plausible explanation) then spend hours trying to swim back to land.

    thats not the point if you read my post you would know that it would be stupid to have an invisible wall at the shore of the ocean if you could just swim in shallow water that would be alot better.

    of course you wont swim when your ship sinks come on commen sence

    We could spend a bunch of time implementing a swimming system.  Or we could spend that time on gameplay.  Tough choice!



    Also, any store that's announcing or allowing pre-orders at this point is engaging in wishful thinking.  Until we actually announce details about our publishing plans, those stores are just taking your money based on rumors.

    LMAO because you see something in a movie it MUST be historically acturate, and of course if its in colour theres no debate. i wouldnt see pirates of the carrabian movie trilogy going very far if jack drowned at the end of the first movie when he fell/jumped off the fort lol. movies just like games are aloud to have a bit of artistic licenceing to make it more entertaining however in POTBS they have gone historical and went for the non swimmable option. thoses days ppl couldnt swim incase the ship sank, i know id rather drown in 2min in the open sea rather than float around to die an hour later. and as for the point of the thread which was the invisable wall in the water, why do u want to go in the water in avatar mode? for a romantic strole, lets face it as nice as the water looks you will be looking at it alot in your ship so you would think that when in avatar mode you would step away from the deep blue and admire some of the  island work rather than  looking in the water lol. i mean... come on  how demorilzing can it be for the devs to do fantastic graphical work on the island, buzzing busy streets, beautiful trees and hustling bars only to get the response, "why is it when i try get into the water i cant" LMAO get a grip plz.... if i was a dev and read this id actually want to commit suicide lol.



    P.S i dunno who said "its crazy you cant cause the game is all about um... water"



    Seriously man a game about water, wtf. last time i checked it was boats, not how to upgrade and pimpout your bottle of sea water, did u feel wow was all about earth or eve about the empty vacum that is space? no... exactly so please think before you type sigh........

    You can board others' ships...in order to kill them.

    During this time in history... if you can swim your a witch. sink your not, but then your dead anyway. As a test they useto throw people into water hands tied. If they didnt sink they were a witch. No one in their right mind would allow anyone to see them swim.

    it wasnt if u can swim or not it was if u float u were a witch hense why they tied your hands up but i thought this era was way before potbs could be wrong there, no doubt i will be corrected if i am

    There's no point to coding swimming into the game if its useless...ie. there's no game content coded to go with it...just useless fluff.



    Its been a while, but I used to play stand alone submarine games, naval simulators etc..and while the games were all about naval combat..I don't recall ever doing any swimming....



    Sure, I realize this game has an avatar, but swimming should hardly be a deal breaker on whether you play this game..... its all about the combat ......

    Why the hell would you want to board your friends' ships? So you can swab their decks and hoist their sails while they do all the sailing and fighting and playing of the game? If you want to watch pirates then rent a movie, it's designed to work better non-interactively like that. If however you want to PLAY a pirates game, what possible reason would you have for sailing out in one ship instead of two...?
