But unlike some vets, I actually gave it a fair go again. And man, I'm glad I did.

Back in my old guild from 2003, DUNE. It's great to see lots of folks busy in guild chat.

    Star Wars rocks.

Copper Dune rocks! One of the oldest guilds on Bloodfin and I am glad to see it grow again. Lots of folks are coming back along with the new folks to boot.

Now if they could just get rid of those gold farming spam bots outside of Eisley spamming the local chat.........

I don't believe that t5hey are trolling or bashing the OP, They are just stating the fact once you get to 40 the worm turns.  I agree with a few here before you post how great the New game is first play it through lvl 90 then come back with an informed opinion and not one that comes off little experience with the New game.  The OP did state he is only lvl 7 right now and those levels below 40 can be allot of fun.

I may have to give the trial another go

I played beta through the CU days and i can honestly say it was my favorite memories of gaming to date. Me and my bud just grinding on Talus, exploring the huge world, trying to unlock the mysterious jedi slot, doing the rebel themepark, waiting in line to get buffs in the starport, waiting for the damn shuttle to get  to the spaceport (i'm talking back when it was like a 15 minute wait or whatever), etc etc

    Ahh memories

I'm just afraid if i try the game again, i'll WANT it to be the old SWG too much and not give the new swg a fair chance because of how it will remind me of the old one. It's kind of like some sick twisted love affair.

I am a rather newish, only been around for a few months. I am a level 44 Smuggler and having a blast. Maybe that will change when I get to 90 but hey, roll another toon. Call me crazy but I love COH/COV and they just put out I9, yet I play SWG more. Why? Depth, plain and simple, this game has massive amounts of depth. Is there another game with both ground and space content with a crafting system and housing/player cities with the complexity or diversity as this game? If so please tell which one because I have yet to find it.

As for everyone else that has re-subbed, welcome back.

I played old SWG, I was there since launch.  I agree, this isn't the old SWG I loved, and most of you loved, that game is dead to me, but this new SWG really isn't as bad as y'all make it out to be.  Granted, I need more time with the game, but what I have experienced so far has been FUN and that is the whole point in playing video games.
    True Dat.

These cry babies are getting old. It's a game people. It's amazing these old vet losers can't move on and stop bugging people who want to have fun in a game.

i downloaded the 14 day trial thing and kept the computer on for the entire night to fully download the whole thing, to be honest it's not the same as it was before, it's not as bad, it's alright, but i would seriously not pay to play it tho, it may be starwars, but leveling up my character to level 5 in that stupid station and all i wanted to do was leave and GTFO it was soo hard and frustrating, the controls are wacked and the game play is very simplistic to the point where you just follow that way point and that's the quest. The camera angeling was annoying, the Graphics sucked, and the Lag i got from it sucked a whole lot more, also when i finally go out of that hell hole station and finally into tatooine i went to go and look around other places, i went to Coronet and checked out the Cantina there... and to my surprise it was empty, there was no one there, and i being a vet this is a big shock to me, ca use usually the cantina in coronet would be the busiest place in the whole game. There were alot of things i didn't really like as well, professions, graphics, the whole jump thing, and how my character looked, they need a complete new overhaul of the whole game, improve the graphics, improve the gameplay, and they are giving back alot of the old classes, but basically from what i see, i don't get why they don't just go back to pre-nge with all these return of the classes, and just improve the graphics on that and the game play.

Ah yes, because anyone who doesn't like a game is an 'old vet loser'. Maybe you like the rose-colored glasses viewpoint, but as a person also considering trying SWG, I like to hear BOTH sides. It's why I checked here and not on the SWG forums (where I'd expect the fanboi response level to be in the 90s). It's like when I was deciding to try Lineage II. The rose colored glasses viewpoint was that the game was great and no one said anything about the grind or lowbie ganking or anything negative, without being flamed to high hell by the folks who supposedly loved the game.

If you like the game so much, give BOTH sides of the coin. Otherwise, you're far more likely to create another "old vet loser" who starts playing the game with their eyes wide shut. Seriously, the folks in this thread who pointed out the post-40 "worm turning" have probably done more good than everyone saying the game is the bee's knees at level 7 (duh? EVERY MMO is "great" 2 hours into it). I'm not attacking anyone, I'm just trying to point out that only accentuating the positive doesn't give someone thinking of trying a game an accurate starting point from which to make a decision.

"Post-40, the game slows down a bit but it's still fun" is much better than "This game rocks! I love it!"

    Just my view though.

Just my view though. I agree that there are good points and bad points to everything and not everyone likes the same thing and that is fine, but when it comes to trying this game or not trying it I say, its free 14 day triel take a look for yourself, anyone wishing to do that I would be more then happy to help if they start a toon on the Valcyn server.

I also recently re-subbed to SWG and I do have to admit that the game seems to be going in the right direction. I 've always been a Star Wars nerd and I even pre-ordered the collectors edition back in 03, I've since quit the game probably 4 times due to the dev team being complete morons. The last time I played was when the NGE went live and the game was a complete and total wreck, I checked back in about 2 weeks ago and it looks like things are going the direction that many SWG vets would appreciate, the biggest problem now is really player numbers and new PvE content, as far as I know the last major subscription added content was the Death Watch Bunker. All in all though, give the 2 week trial a whirl if you're tired of happy elves and drunk dwarves, SWG may surprise you.

And CH comes back not to mention the addition of story teller and the balance pass making NPC's and creatures a lot harder as well, it is worth a look and not just dismissing off hand

Granted, some worthwhile changes have been made in the past few publishes: no class restrictions on armor type, attack damage based on weapon stats not CL, making CL mean Character Level instead of Combat Level to stop totally hosing the noncombatants. Frankly, these changes should have been made back in CU days (enough people were yelling for it even then!); they would have made CU a lot more viable.

I do NOT consider Beast Master to be one of these "right direction" moves, because much of the old CH stuff is still there dormant in the game. If you have a non-CH pet or mount, you can still see it. I played with my old CH-trained BE-made Bol mount last night. The only command that didn't work was "Attack", and I already knew that the devs had disabled it. Back at the launch of NGE, I had my mount-pet fight for me because I was stuck at CL1 as a Trader. BM is breaking the pets and mounts that still exist, replacing the old system completely when all that was needed was a way to again control and train high level pets. Aside from the absence of a /tame command, I don't have a problem with their new pet-making operation, but there was no need to break something that was still working.

The reason they have to do things like you have described is because the old code doesnt work with the NGE and it is alot easier and faster for them to just start again thats all, it enables them to get stuff to us alot faster and making things better quicker is a good thing

No. They did not "have to do things" as they did. This line has been pushed for the past 2 years, and it is no more valid now than it was then. They are not "making things better", they are breaking things that are still working. As I said, the only creature pet command that didn't work is the one that they intentionally disabled (it used to work in NGE). I'm sure that it is easier for them to do it this way, because it is always easier to get where you want to be if you don't care what happens to anything or anyone that is unfortunate enough to be in your path. As to getting stuff to us faster: over this same two-year period, that has almost always meant shoving things out to the live servers in a state that is half-finished at best.
