With their upcoming MMORPG, Age of Conan creeping ever closer to its release, Funcom has announced a new MMORPG project called The Secret World. The premise sees a world of mystery and magic hidden within our own.
A modern day online world of action, horror and intriguing conspiracies awaits
New action-packed MMO set to release on both Xbox 360 and PCDurham, USA - May 11th, 2007 - From the creators of 'Age of Conan', 'Anarchy Online', 'The Longest Journey' and 'Dreamfall' comes a brave new massively multiplayer online role-playing game for the PC and Xbox 360. Taking place on our earth, in our times, 'The Secret World' (TSW) is inspired by history and mythology, modern conspiracy theories and ancient mysteries.
For there really is a world within ours, a secret world, where magic exists, monsters roam and ancient forces are fighting for the dominance of earth. It is a world of legendary stories, ageless conflicts and powerful cabals. In this world, even modern cities hide secrets. In this world, players can take part in the greatest conspiracies of our age, and battle the forces of darkness across the world and throughout time.
"We started envisioning this contemporary online world more than ten years ago, and as the years passed the ideas grew and improved," said Ragnar Tørnquist, Producer and Director on 'The Secret World'. "We always wanted a different kind of online world, something scary and contemporary, something deeper and closer to our reality. Our goal now is to create a detailed world where players feel empowered and part of something big, something mystical and epic."
"We believe there are millions of gamers out there who want to explore something beyond traditional fantasy and sci-fi games," said Trond Arne Aas, CEO of Funcom. "'The Secret World' is just that - a fantastic new setting that will fuel the imagination of online gamers, and keep players busy for years. We have a golden opportunity to bring something fresh and exciting to the genre, and we firmly believe the game is an ideal extension of Funcom's MMO portfolio."
'The Secret World' has been in development since last summer and the game is in a playable state. It is produced at the Funcom studios in Oslo and Beijing. A release date is not being announced at this point, but players are already getting involved in the fast-growing community. Through a complex web-based mystery launched on May 6th, players are being led to a series of websites, including www.DarkDaysAreComing.com, where - after solving a puzzle - concept art from the game is being unveiled.
As a gamer you can become a member of the first wave community, and through pioneer forums you can discuss and explore the intriguing backstory. To access the forums and learn more about the mystery make sure you check out: www.DarkDaysAreComing.com

It certainly proves these is at least one company out there wiling to innovate.
While AO had it's share of problems, they at least introduced a lot of new features to the genre.
Now we have them adding a seemingly exciting new genre to the MMO category. I wish them success with this venture.
While its definitly a new twist on the fantasy / sci fi genre I'm curious if the game play will be all that innovated. While having an creative back drop is awsome saying its innovated is a bit to early. For all we know the game play could be age of conan with a mix of anarchy online style.
BTW the backdrop isn't all that unique either there's several sci fi / fantasy books that have a similiar backdrop, its just sort of interesting to perhaps see how it works in a game.
Please Refer to Doom Cat with all conspiracies & evil corporation complaints. He'll give you the simple explination of..WE"RE ALL DOOMED!
If god loves the fools ,and god loves every one, dose that mean we are all fools.

This will turn out to be very interesting indeed.
How do you kill that which has no life?

"Hello person posting on a site specifically for MMO's in a thread on a sub forum specifically for a particular game talking about meta features and making comparisons to other titles in the genre, and their meta features.
How are you?" -Me
For me, the choice is an easy one: alway go with the original.
For others maybe not. Time will tell ...
Play both, see who rings your bells, pay them :P
This is what I know so far, Leonardo’s Vitruvian Man picture is in the circle. Look it up online, it was in the Da Vinci codes.
There are 3 places to click for images.
1. is a stick with vines
2. is a angel looking thing with 4 arrows coming out opposite each other.
3. is a snake and dragon fighting each other.
I also noticed when You put 1 ontop of the other on the circle you can ROTATE the image and the previous one dissapears.
EDIT: if you look very closely on the outside of the circle there are images in small boxes, like stargate images....
have yet to catch up to. Funcom can deliver great ideas, the problem has been in the
follow-through. Nevertheless this sounds like a great starting idea. GO FUNCOM, I hope
you can shake things up
There is no conspiracy.
there is a fourth symbol, a snake with some arrows. guess it will be a long night for me
5 o'clock 7 and 11. After they are attached you can rotate them or swap them out... That's all I got.
I solved it; finally something that was not designed to be solved by everyone within their first minute of stumbling across it! Hopefully a portion of the puzzle is random so that the solution is different for each person and hopefully this applies to the game design also.
