So Gamestop reviewed the game and gave it a 8.3 with nothing lower then an 8 in any category.

Currently playing:
LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)

Looking Foward too:
Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)

Yeah definetly a good score for this game. If you look at what they actually scored in, the publisher threw a nice curve to the score.

Goodjob Turbine! Hopefully things can only get alot better.

Its GameSPOT not Gamestop.   Gamestop is a store..and I wouldn't trust their reviews with a ten foot pole.   Gamespot on the other hand is all cool.

Please Refer to Doom Cat with all conspiracies & evil corporation complaints. He'll give you the simple explination of..WE"RE ALL DOOMED!

Nice review. Thanks for the link.

I'm not sure I agree with the models being bland, though I do wish there were more customization options. I have most of my settings maxed out and the models look pretty good imo... definitely better than those "other" games. Now, some of the gear and armor could be a little more varied, but even then, at high to ultra high, the textures are very crisp and detailed.

so they are saying this game is only 0.8 better then Vanguard?  its HUGELY better then vanguard.
and 1.2 worse then WOW??? no way.
This game should be in the 9's - for some reason gamespot think they are the be all and end all of reviews and they are clearly wow biased. Clearly. to them nothing will be better then wow.. for me.. this DEFINATLY is.
This game is for me much better then WOW.  ok maybe they would never give it a 9.6  but it deserves a 9.x.

I stopped taking notice of gamespot revies a while back.  It will definatly continue with this poor one.
What about the 9.2 for Burning Crusade Exp. pack ?...  they got to be kidding

I generally like LotRO, however my beef with it is the fact that it is just a reskinned WoW.  I played the beta, had a level 50, and pretty much I got to play WoW all over again.

I just wish the put more things in like the Music System (I think the was the best idea they came up with).  I think overall they would have faired better if they tried to really remove themselves for the WoW gameplay.  I also wish they put more focus on general PvP, not MPvP.  I don't like the MPvP system, but I like the basic concepts behind it.  Bottomline though as a roleplayer, I cannot take the character that I am leveling and PvP with him.  That is pretty sad.

Overall, I think GI is WAY off the mark.  It deserves at least a 9.0.  The game does a great job of cloning WoW, and WoW is an entertaining game.  In addition to that Turbine added a lot of great things (some of which WoW is trying to steal in their latest patch) and they have some original ideas (the music system and MPvP as well as their approach to pets and the Hunter class's PIP system).  So, there is a lot of great things this game is doing and 8.3 is not even close to appropriate for this game.  But I don't think it is good enough to stand toe-to-toe with WoW.

    I'd give it a 9.0 maybe a 9.1.

Sure you can, once you reach level 40 with him you can take him in against the Creeps and PvP all day long if you want to.

Back to the original post. A good review, not too high in the sky, not too low.

    I miss DAoC

  • With the reviews that they gave VG and WOW, I don't think that anyone can say that this review is any more accurate.

    And I rated it at 7.9 (I gave VG a 6.5).

What is in the game is good - but there is far too much missing, even simple common things like no way to tell what in-game time is, and the quests are getting pretty repetitive.

And how many times can you change the name of a pig to make a "new" mob? (angry pigs, rabid pigs, maddened pigs.. yup, 19 varieties of various upset pigs...).
