I just wanted to post about all the supposedly new excitement for this game. I went back to see how the game was doing on Bloodfin my old server ,and here is what I saw. Other than Mos Eisley I saw very very few people playing and the few I did were either passing thru or afker's and credit farmers advertising. I am happy the game seems to have gotten some better devs but why are their so many posts latly filled with excitement about things being implemented to the game that were taken out because they were not Star warsy or Iconic? I thought the NGE that was forced upon the players was supposed to make the game Iconic and more Star Warsy but now I see they are re adding Creature handler to the game with a new name Beast Master. So I ask this question Why so much excitement about them re adding stuff that the game once had and re packaging it and calling it NEW Discuss my fellow Pre-CU brothers.

It is a smart move by $OE to add good features from the old game but it is just not going to bring back the hardcore haters (myself included). They screwed up an awesome game, pulled a bait and switch with ToOW, and decided to thumb their nose at the loyal playing base as they did it. I think alot of the so called excitement is to entice vets back to the game- some are going back. The SW IP has such a fanatical following that, after awhile, it is hard for some players to not resub. Personally, I made sure to delete my toons so I would not be tempted. It is a good thing because at least twice I have been tempted and realized I didn't want to start as a newb. As far as population goes, I have no idea but I suspect you are going to get the argument going in this thread. Another population argument, Yay.

I can't see how SoE can make enough money to pay LA for the rights of the Star Wars title.
They have to be loosing money at this point.

That's funny, cause now a lot of gas is 10% ethinol, and they're charging more for it. Go figure.
I think I saw a little excitement in another thread.
Waiting for: Archeage, Darkfall 2.0, and Planetside 2.

-Currently looking forward to FFXIV

all this tells you is that it is heavier than the other servers nothing more till SOE actually posts what the population ranges are.
Pre-cu there was alot of speculation as to this with most guessing that heavy was about 4k-5k players but noone knows for sure.

Actually this tells me quite a bit, this screenshot tells me that the devs are directly new players to the more populated servers.I had to give up 2 years worth of work and my elder jedi on Tempest to create a newb on Bloodfin just so I could find someone to talk to during primetime.
Can you still use a packet sniffer to get the real numbers?
A fair number of folks from Bloodfin moved en masse to other games (specifically WoW), where they'll likely continue to stick together well after the fact. Here's the first Bloodfin Community Tribute made by some of the old school folks. I'm sure more will come with successive generations of Bloodfin players.
Honestly, Bloodfin players were about the only reason to keep subscribing to SWG.
(On a personal note I found it somewhat amusing the Imperial Alliance still exists in some form, and even gained a corporeal form!)

Actually before they changed it you would see between 2k-3k on each server 3k being heavy. or was that eq1? hmm kinda hard to recal nah they didn't change the policy i think till feb mar of 04 i think. I could be wrong and if i am someone please post it...Thanks

$OE - eternal enemy of online gaming
-We finally WON !!!! 2011 $OE accepted that they have been fired 2005 by the playerbase and closed down ridiculous NGE !!

I also returned a few months ago .. and found the EXACT same thing you are describing on Bloodfin.
My server was worse. I really tried ... I really wanted to have fun .... but there was just enough people playing. Only one person still playing from my guild of about 147 or so people. My friends list of over 200 ... empty.
What LA fails to understand is that their reputation is equally as ruined as $OE's .. and if George Lucas thinks he is untouched by this ... he is mistaken also. This has been allowed to go on FAR FAR too long.
There is NOTHING SOE can do to make SWG's player levels come close to what they were preCU ... they cant do it .... no one can ... it is over .. finished. There is a very strong likelyhood that even if LA went with someone other than SOE, I will probably never play it. They showed me that they cant fix a mistake.
Game over.

Back in the the day ... precu, the recommended servers were all lightly populated servers ..... I smell a server consolidation coming.
This game is on life support and there is NO brain activity .... time to pull the plug.

Yup server merge is coming, hence the housing purge so hopefully there wouldn't be too many houses that were in the same place and cause problems. And in cany case, going from 20+ servers to maybe 10 or less would relieve stress I guess, and lower server upkeep costs, and hopefully they'll pass those savings to the content and bug department.
It's all about saving face. Managers don't like to admit it when they are wrong. They can lose their job over it.
The players were right, SOE knows it, and they are moving the game back to when it was better, in small digestible chunks. They are just repackaging it as something new and getting "excited" to draw people away from the fact that they are just backing changes out. Bringing creature handler back will excite the bio engineers even if it is a new creature handling system.
Plus we all know that kids love animals. This could be a good draw for the 12-16 set.
Even GL has said repeatedly that he did star wars for kids. They are the target audience for Star Wars in general. Look at Ewoks, Gungans, etc. Adults who think Star Wars is supposed to be serious don't like to hear this, but that's the way it is. They are family films though the last one was a little too deep and scary for kids.
I'm not saying SOE is taking starwars to before CU but I bet you'll see a lot of this in the near future. the design work is mostly done for the system, it's a cheap feature fluctuation that will make people think SOE is doing something new in swg.
Entertainers are already useful again, now this... Maybe SOE is capable of learning.
That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.
