Id say Warhammer epic is darker than 40k even.

But WAr the mmo is gonna me kiddy its made to be wow to the second power with rvr . This may not be that bad i liked wow but it lacked good pvp and the end game was super bad. So i will most likely be happy with it.

Better then LotRO which is wow version 0.5 rofl .

"I don't see how WoW is kiddie?" - it is

"WAR will not be a happy amusement park. " word are words and thats all , it will be dark when it is dark not when they say it is.

"Also, complexity does not mean the player base will be any more mature. " - sure you get asses in these games, but you do cull the dumb mmoers thats for sure.

Kelsonmac is right atm WAr is kiddy, look at everythign they have realsed its kiddy. a catapult launching orger is not , not kiddy unless he splats hard and bloody otherwise is cartoon slapstick.

"But for some laughs, go check out that site. There is a "PVP" thread where it is suggested that there be a "staging area for people to prepare for pvp" and also a hearty discussion about "pvp music". I don't think these people know what PVP is, nor do they appreciate how fun and intense it can be."

I agree atm wars pvp will not be great good maybe but not great. Instance pvp CAN NOT BE GREAT  unless its an no player cap open instance ie daoc Battle ground.  Part of the greatness of pvp is challenge well everything equal everything the same instances =/ challenge they = made for dumb lazy mmoers.

While i am note sure about his claims of shutting down the site , i have been wacked at WA becuase a logn tiem ago everyone wanted etc and the mythic came out and said well we diecied not to do it. and the 95% of the poster there are total fanboys and they were like omg mythics so smart great idea, not to do what we thought  (and is) a good idea. So i was like no that is really dumb , it smuch better this way .... mythic proved this they swore by it in daoc and other projects they thought of. Now they are just not doing it??? Why becuase they want the freakign dumb wow money .. the responce omg no Mythics not like that ...  blahh blahh blahh... later in a vid a mythic rep said sure we want to make the most money we can and well do what it take to make it.... I was right B**ch yet i was still told not to talk about it way back when ... becuase why becuase they did not want to hear that mythic had sold out for the cash. There is a useless community right their.

thats not to say mythic is not a good developer , i still think they are the best ... i simply believe they sold out some , they still want to make a good mmo and i have every belief that they will, but i feel it will not be as good as they could have made it ... for the ability to steal WoW players.

  • Naaaj, A lot of Warhammer Alliance user are Ex-DAoC players. Of cause there is some casual WoW players there too. But the real PvP players are mostly coming from Dark Age of Camelot.

I guess it depends on how easy it's going to be to play. If it's a simple to play, then I think it will attract a lot of younger people, regardless of rating.

I hope they make servers for 13-20 year olds and others for 20+ or put it even higher for that sake.. Just make some servers that are marked as 20+ years of age.

The game isn't going to be dark and sinister, ala some single player RPG's. However, there will be cool stuff that definately pushes the teen rating. As for Warhammer Alliance, since I'm one of the two people whom can ban someone from that site, I can say, you only get banned for violating the forum rules. Everyone gets a nice little private message explaining why and anyone is free to use the contact us link at the bottom of the site to discuss things further.

    Hope that helps.

Well, if the table top community can be a hint as to the community in the MMO -- it's is going to be kiddie heaven.

Even though I barely understand you I atleast got past the ...er well anyway

    1.  from my experience of hanging in game shops and even shops that only sold Games Workshop games (not many of these are in the states anymore but we do have them)  warhammer is generally not played by 'kiddies'  The younger generation of table top gamers tend to stick to the Clix genre like Hero Clix.

    2.  Warhammer's largest and oldest communities of players are Euro gamers and they are older.

Even if there are alot of teens or even a few kids I personally won't care as long as they don't act like begging annoyances.  Honestly maturity and age dont' go hand in hand.

Ratings are a joke. The only ones pay any attention to them are politicians and people with an agenda.

But aside from that, I think the answer is "All of the Above".

I think it will be dark and sinister, and full of griefers from WOW (and other pre-teen FPS + griefer games).

An useless thread if you ask me.  I don't really want to waste words on this, but I think a lot of the comments placed here by  self proclaimed 'mature' players are as 'kiddie' as can be. It basically comes down to this: 'Kiddies r nubz. I iz adult playa! I hate kiddiez!".

In my view maturity comes from social behaviour. I'd rather play together with a 15 year old who is a kind person than I would work together with a 'mature' player constantly moaning about the 'kiddie-lowlife'.

I noticed I wasted too much words by now, gotta quit it

    "like WoW a kiddie heaven"

"please dont take this as a flame on War or WoW"

Ya know I really am about as sick of this notion that WoW is a kids game as I can possibly be.

Im 41 years old and I played WoW for almost 2 years. In my workplace of over 200 people around a dozen play WoW and most are in thier late 20's and early 30's. The premise that WoW is a "kids game" is not only wrong, its basically offensive to the many hundreds of thousands (possibly millions) of people over 18 that play it. In fact Id go as far as to say that if the truth was known the majority of WoW players would be over 18.

I hated the WoW community. You couldn't go in the trade channel for 2 seconds without hearing a damn Chuck Norris joke.

I really hope this game will have enough bloodshed and gore to make parents keep their kiddies away from WAR.

I understand that some people will think Games Workshop will likely not letting the game out as some "watered down Warhammer" product, However.. The truth is Gaming company is just that.. a company.. They will do whatever it takes to slurp some profit. If they could sell their employee's soul for profit, they probably would have held job fair open right that second.

I think Games Workshop would not only put 11+ teen rating, they probably would put 5+ rating on it if possible. Stop hoping some great game. Normally fans will left out with something hollow or some bottleneck punks who hold position as managers who stop believing every darn word coming out of their fans before the freaking game even launched!

I just dont want to put a lot of faith on games anymore. Theres so many games that been hyped out and turn out to be a little more than some common sewer trash.

I don't know about you, but I've always loved bloodshed and gore, even when I was a kid (only in games and films, btw ^^). I think more bloodshed and gore will attract people of all ages... besides, I'm willing to bet it's not only kids that make those daft Chuck Norris jokes. How do kids even know who he is?!

Considering how dark and brutal the Warhammer world tends to be...I'm surprised Mythic didn't aim for a higher rating than "Teen"  to capture this....that being said, they can still reach the basic points of it with a Teen rating...

As a WoW player, myself for the last few years I am ready for something a bit deeper. I'm going to try out Age of Conan, and Chronicals of Spellborn, as well.

Games Workshop has 'lightened' the Warhammer IP so much that its really only about teen rated as it is.  Warhammer hasn't been 'mature' for a decade.  To expect Mythic to go darker than GW's current incarnation of the IP is asking to much, imho.

First off and I have to add this as I am waiting on AoC and Warhammer (one will be my last hack and slash game) but, it is usually not the 13 year olds or even the 15 yr olds talking the junk and causing the problems behind the keyboards in MMOs. I remeber reading on the WOW forums the highest age range that played the game was ages 22-26 being the higest range and 28-32 being the second highest age group (active accounts) playing across all servers (PvP included).

I think what your post meant to imply is will their be a lot of @$$hole immatures playing it, probably so, can it be helped probably not and this game having a PvP focus will probably bring more of that crowd in than any other crowd (RPers and casual people).

What I really find funny reading the Warhammer forums (official and non) is there are no planned RPing guilds at all listed for playing the game and there are daily corrections or "Stickler" correcting people about canon things about it.

I played dark age of camelot from age 22-25. People where shocked when they found out a guy from our 8v8 group was "17" and still in highschool, and would often chide him for being so young. Towards the end, my nephew joined and started to play the game (at age 10) he could never make it past level 30 and claimed "this game is stupid" as it was dificult for him to play and succeed. Most people I ran into where college age, and alotof late 20's and 30's types which would make the battlefield dormant during the day but turn into a zerg fest 40 vs 40 vs 40 battles around 6pm then drift to nothing again at 11pm.

I played World of Warcraft from the past 2-3 years and I am now a ripe old age of thirty. People I play with in groups are "shocked" that a "grown up" is playing a video game.... dispite the fact that I tell them I grew up on the first warcraft which came out when I was just entering highschool. average age of the person I run into is highschool age with more than a few younger. I have only met TWO people in wow over the age of 30, one 45 and the other is 50. My nephew excells highly in this newer game and says "its more funner" than the previous game we played. He is level 60, infact he has 2 level 60's and was able to make it to a high pvp rank.

Im not sure what it is about wow that attracts younger players and what it was about daoc that repulsed them but I would think the level of dificulty to play is what keeps the younger players comming. hopefully when I get to warhammer it will be an entire game filled with 30 year olds who are part time reporters and full time husbands that want to pvp constantly.

It is i have been saying for a while WoW only inovation was lazy gameplay for dumb people. I only say this becuase i HAVE NEVER FELT AGE was that big of a factor. While it is hard for very young people to play games you really have to be young. The difference is in the fact in DAOC you have to use skill. Seriously, the game is less forgiving and a players actions dictate the outcome of a battle to a much higher degree... even in pve (you have to WORK).

The reason i say is is becuase i have been playing games since i was a pup. NES, SNES, got into local BBS'es very early (LOTRD anyone) Then muds, onto 10-6 , daoc , and just about every mmorpg worth any salt after that.  During that entire time AGE never matter but ones mentality did... i know older people who just do not get how to react correctly in daoc when they are pa'ed (or a number of different situations .. they are bad reactors) they just do not get it despite how long they have played.  While i would agree the older you are the more likely you have the cognitive ability and desire to WORK at playing a game ... it is not nesesarly so.

But overall , WoW is easy mode 10,000, and alot of the mmo community seems to want diverse and complex combat from the post i have seen , however, WoW examples the truth that most mmo player want is easy... and Mythic knows this and that si why the game is obviously being made with that in mind (howeve they do want their classes to be differnent from one another and require some interation from the class skills that i have seen so far). Basically, it looks like they are shooting for a difficulty of play somewhere between daoc and Wow skritting close to wow.  I am happy with that, i been tooled by over skilled players in daoc.... when you simiply CANNOT nuke a melee toon that is walking through you over and over with QC or MOC this examples a abuse as well as the skill of a player (because its not overly easy),

Now i am sure many 15yo's will argue with me but the truth is that 12 or 15 there is not that much of a big diference IRL, so i am afraid that my old fingers will have to compete with the younglings, a task that becomes harder and harder every year.
I am 15 and I will definetely be playing WAR. If you want a more mature game play LOTRO, I hear they have a star trek channel.

Ha, cant wait till I camp you and something like this will soon follow "you are so immature, all you care about is 1337 pwning111, go back to wow". I cant wait for this day.

WAR will be Teen Rated (meaning 12+).

However, it already is much much darker and grittier than WoW will ever be.

Remember: Teen rating does NOT mean "Happy Rainbow Land without Blood and Gore"...

Teen rating does ONLY mean: No extraordinary amounts of blood splattering, no cutting off of limbs, no active torture and so on.

In a Teen Rated game, you can very well have cut off limbs lying around on the Battlfields, blood soaked Valleys, really creepy mutations and abominations.

Only you won't see any "active" extreme violence. A man, cut in half, with his intestines lying around him, no problem, teen rating.

But seeing a man getting caught by a pack of wolves who bite through his skin and rip the intestines out with blood splattering around, Mature Rating.

YOu can have VERY dark and gritty envoirements in a teen rating.

    But, don't forget:

Warhammer also has loads of black humour and sarcasm in it, as well as it's own, sorta comical Graphics.

WoW is WAR in funny happy rainbow land, so to speak.

(On a totally unrelated note: We have to wait and see what the community will be like, as the Community is evolving independat from used Graphics)
