Well as being on beta for it the fun lasted only so long before the on set of the grind cometh and at level 43 i was totally out of the game do to boredom then they bought me back to test the pvp make up omg i was like click click see ya im gone.......uninstalled it and deleted it..
Its always the fan boys that protect there games not really knowing that it going to fail i actually got into a agruement with one of the big dev's that made the game cant remember her name for some reason but whatever.....Like i told her and what will happen is the population will die at 40 because the game make causes it yeah killing trolls and big whatever you want is fun for only so long then there has to be a point too it.....
And now I come to the items your going to see alot of people wearing the exact same gear over, over and more over there is no orginality to the gear what so ever and unforturely its the only way your going to level if you dont have it your going to be solo grinding crows...
Fun what fun I guess I was spoiled early but for actually buying this game im passing and no im not a wow supporter either i hated that game alot worse then this one.....
I like the game I think alot of it has to do with the fact the setting is Middle Earth.
The sense of nostalgia almosts makes the game like a walk down memory lane.
Half the time I'm being reminded of previous mental experiences I had while I read the books and that adds a whole depth to the game. It also didn't hurt they stylized the quest system so that it feels like a book. Elements from games like Swg, CoH, Wow and EQ are all ellegantly interlaced as well.
In the end maybe I've just matured as a gamer and figure Id like a decent polished game over something extremely new and exciting. Don't know how that makes me feel besides old

A funny comparsion is about flies and their diet too.. There's LOTS of them but I sure ain't following their idea of a healthy diet..
Anyways, LoTRO is a game built on a good solid story, I wouldn't expect less than a decent score. Right now. HOwever, I also believe we'll see it fall soon enough, I mean, Vanguard had its time in the spotlight. WoW has been up there, EVE too.. And. So. Forth.
Let's not judge credibility by scores. Instead it might be an idea to just get your own opinion by trying it instead and stop having these "Hey look who's popular NOW" threads?
Played so far: 9Dragons, AO, AC, AC2, CoX, DAoC, DF, DnL, DR, DDO, Ent, EvE, EQ, EQ2, FoMK, FFO, Fury, GW, HG:L, HZ, L1, L2, M59, MU, NC1, NC2, PS, PT, R:O, RF:O, RYL, Ryzom, SL, SB, SW:G, TR, TCoS, MX:O, UO, VG, WAR, WoW... It all sucked.
Oh, so where's "lolerz, game's gonna drop dead once reality kickz in u noobs" now? Huh, 1,2k votes and oh boy, it's still at 8.5 and number 1...
Better question; Where are all the "This game is at teh #1'z slot still! ZOMG BEST GAME EVAR!!!!" posters now??? Oh wait.....thats you....uhhhhh....yeah
Sorry all. I voted and it dropped to 8.4. I gave it pretty good scores, because I really like the game but sadly it dropped to 8.4. It was 8.5 one minute before I voted so yell at me for screwing the score up. /cries
I played the open beta, and I gotta say... I didn't like it. They could aswell call it World of the Ring. Absolutely NO innovation. Same old combat system, same old classes, same old quests (from now on every MMO that offers me a "kill 12 giant mutant radioactive rats and bring me their tails for god knows what reason" quest is automaticly a no-no).
Turbine made this game for 1 purpose only - money. The game might apear fun at the beginning, but unless they have an ultra-hyper-innovative and addictive endgame (witch i highly doubt judging from the rest of the game) I give it a couple of months, maby a year before people start leaving due to a strong dejavu feeling.
So what is there to discuss? A solid game, good environment for RP, and based on the Tolkien universe. Hopefully all the asses, d00ds, punks and brats will stay in WoW.
no offense guys but you need to give the game an honest review. It's not worth more than 7.5. Trust me WOW is much better. The game falls short in alot of areas.

I really hate seeing this. Not just for LoTRO but for any new MMO out on the market.
WoW is a mature and established game with over 2 years worth of new content and patching.
Do you think WoW looks the same today as the day that it launched?
If you want to compare WoW during its first month with the current LoTRO build then go right ahead.
But comparing LoTRO to the WoW of today is like apples and oranges.

Don't fool yourself. At the end of the day, they're all trying to make a buck or two as well, tyvm. I'm certainly not aware of any mainstream non-profit gaming companies.

What I ment was: When they made the game, their main question wasn't "how do we make our game enjoyable", but more like "how do we make the people play it long enough to help us make milions of dolars". C'mon think about it! It's a 80 - 90% copy of WoW with a few bonuses taken from CoH and EQ2.
The realy weird thing is, that the same people who hate and bash WoW now became LotRO fanbois. It`s like... bashing Burger King and instead eating at Mc'Donalds! World of the Ring might be a fun game, but definitly NOT worth the 8.5. If it was, WoW should have a 9.0.
Honestly I believe that LOTRO is a decent game, but before everyone who loves it to death starts saying that its the best because it has 12xx votes look at the vote count of a lot of the games out there. the majority of the games on the top 10 board have 3xxx votes or more. WoW has 77xx votes. Lets let time tell us the results when LOTRO has 3k or more votes. I gave LOTRO an overall score of 8.1 which means that I feel it is a very good game.
Let me preface this by saying I love LOTRO and I do enjoy playing it. I have 3 characters and am in awe in seeing the world of LOTR come to life. With that said, however, I must admit and say that the votes and the ratings on this site(1121/8/5) are absolutely pointless and worthless. Its not worth saying that they equal a good game or a successful game. The problem is why people vote and how they vote.
As someone who teaches political science and deal with research methods, the problem is the sample that votes. Now I am not criticizing anyone and I include myself in this, but the reason people vote in these "polls" is because they either love the game or hate the game. Look at all of the 10s some people give and all the 1s others give. People vote because they feel strongly and vote based on their predetermined opinions on the game. Very few have probably ever played the game enough to form a solidly objective opinion of the game and then come here and rate it accordingly usually really high or really low.
Another major problem with this is the fact you are assigning a number to something that is subjective. So whats the difference in graphics that are an 8 and a 7? I have rated many games here and I gave the graphics in WOW and LOTRO both a 9. Look at how differeent the graphics are in those two games! So what makes it a 9 and not an 8? I don't know, it just felt like an 8. So awarding an arbritary number like that is problematic too. The true review is what people write about the game and not the number they assign. This is the same problem with star ratings and movie reviews as well. I don't go see a movie because it got 4 stars and I do not not go because it got 2 stars. I read what the reviewer has to say about it and base my judgment on that. Go read user movie reviews over at Yahoo movies and you will see what I mean. SPiderman 3 was not a 10 and neither was it a 1 but many reviewers gave it such ratings because of this reason.
So to say the game is a success because it has an 8.5 or a failure because it has a 6.5 is not accurate. The rating has no impact on the success or failure at this point. The game is new so its going to score high because most likely the people who love it will come and rate it highly. Over time, this will decrease because people will re-review the game and many people will try it and not like it. Look at the majority of the major MMO's rated on this site (EQ, EQ2, DAOC, WOW, etc...). What number do they all hover around....an 8. And I don't think all of those games are an 8 at all. But due to the aforementioned reasons games like these are always going to score high and be around an 8. I can explain it statistically but I have never typed that kind of stuff in a forum.
Thanks Templarga! I must say that your post makes quite a bit of sense (to me) and I must agree across the board. I also have wondered "why" people vote... in many cases, I wonder if its the human psyche looking for confirmation of its own opinions... "I want people to like the game that I like, because that means that I'm not nuts!'...

Yep, its a very worthy game! I am glad that there is real appreciation of a game that doesn't focus on PvP and is casual play friendly.
A big bonus is playing in Tolkien's world and missions that make you feel a part of it.
Because, as well all know, a game's rating on MMORPG.com is indicative of both its success and how much fun it is for every last person on the planet.
Which is a bad thing, because.......
Which seems to be working, right?
