Anyone who says World of Warcraft is just doing so for the image. Showing how much you hate the most widely played mmorpg does not make you "cool". Don't get me wrong, I am not a fan of the game - however, I am sure it is far from the worst mmo you have ever played.
Firstly, WoW is not the most widely played MMO. Yes, it has many subscribers, but it's not the most widely played. Secondly, you may be so lame as to say something for the "image," but that's why we aren't all you.
I think WoW is absolute rubbish...not the worst I've played, I admit. I can see why someone would call it their worst though.
Going off what I've played personally, the worst one would probably have to be.. RF Online. It was pretty, and combat was different, but there were a lot of issues. What made me choose it as my worst was that I had a free copy of the game and didn't even finish out the first month.
I wanted to say SWG... but in truth when I played I did have fun for a while. Looking back I'm not sure why, but I did. I think it was more the community than the game that made it fun. I left before jedi came out though.
I tried Auto Assault, and it was pretty bad, but driving the car around was more fun than I had in RF Online.
FFXI.. it's popular outside the US, and had a pretty good following at one time. I think it's a good game, just not my type.
WoW is a lot of fun at first, and a really well made MMO, but I've quit and am not really a fan anymore. I'd never say it was the worst I played, but it probably wasn't the most fun I'd ever had.
CoH/CoV, Guild Wars, EVE, EQ2 were all good games, they just didn't hold my interest. I had fun for a short time in all of them.
Rising Force Online. I bought the game on a whim without knowing much about it. After loading it and playing for an hour or two I felt like I had paid someone to kick me in the crotch.
Worst? Going to have to break that down into different categories:
Most disappointing -- World of Warcraft. It's not the worst I've played, but it is without a doubt the most disappointing precisely because there's so much good there. What's still missing? Hero classes. Guild housing. Guild bank. Hell, any Guild support at all. Crafting that is too simplistic. That game 1-(current top level minus one) is one game, and then the max level game is nothing but Raid. That they set a new record for the amount of time since release to the launch of their FIRST expansion (over 2 years!!!).
Runner-up -- DDO. Any game that lacks a persistent world (in this case, outside the city) is not for me (which wipes GuildWars).
Most annoying -- WoW again. One word: community. If you like l33t-speak, you'll like WoW; otherwise, turn off general chat.
(yes, I played WoW, in Beta and in live release). The truth is, I've played EQ1, EQ2, Horizons, Shadowbane, UO, AC1, AC2, Lineage II, DAOC, Saga of Ryzom, SWG, Vanguard, DDO -- and the community in ALL of those was better (read: more mature, less l33t) than in WoW.
Runner-up -- SWG. More than enough has been said about this, but my summation is: thoroughly enjoyed at launch, hate the game the way it is now. 'Nuff said.
Biggest waste of time: Vanguard. 1/2-finished, if that, and poor execution at (far too early) release. Tied with Dark and Light.
Runner-up --- AC2. Look, buildings that don't have any way to get inside, those doors are just painted on! (to start with)
The flipside:
Most improved -- EQ2. With three expansions in the time it took WoW to get 1 out (not counting EQ2's three adventure packs), a combat revamp that worked (maybe they did learn something from the SWG debacle), and more things to do in the game (love the collection quests and the Legend and Lore quests), EQ2 today is the "most improved" from what it started as. (That said, I miss some things, like equipment that was useful to you across a range of levels and which scaled according to your ability and level).
Best game to introduce non-gamers to MMORPGs: World of Warcraft. Excellent for this purpose.
Worst would be a hard choice between Horizons, The Matrix Online and Rose online. All so horrible.
Most dissapointing would be Star wars galaxies (how do you turn a guarenteed sucess title into such a mess?) followed closely by Everquest II, the game without a soul.
the most dissapointing. i am going to break it down, i cannot say something like 400 in one.
Most Lagging: Second Life, absoutle piss poor attempt to buy a good connection. and that is just putting it as politely as possible.
Most Annoying: EvE Online, you cannot create an account with your debit card if your from the united kingdom.. and the poor advertising.
Most Bugged: Knight online, that game has sooo sooo many bugs you would'nt belive.
Most unrealistic: i would go with 9dragons. (most of the mmo's follow suit, for a start gravity don't seem to effect women's body and that breaks the realistic effects, as stupid as it sounds, it's true)
Most Graphically disappointing: Runescape, by far the most outdated graphically disappointing game i have seen.
Most Pointless: EvE Online, if you wish for space combat, you will be majorly disappointed. But don't take my word for it, buy a game called Freespace or Freespace 2. then compare. unless your a hardcore fan in which case your bound to completly trip up on the most obvious things.
Most time comsuming: EvE Online, oh come on, you think flying from a to b for 2 hours is fun and no action on the way???
Most thoughtless mmo: Knight Online, the MODS never look after the game or it's server properly.
Hmm, definitely a hard question. I WOULD categorize it but i'm too bored to do that right now so i'll just go and say that it was SWG NGE. I played the game for 2 months due to the reason that i bought the game 2 months prior to CU so it truly felt like a kick in the crotch when i saw the CU. At first i thought WoW but after second thoughts i can't rate it as the worst one. Sure it's sorta a generic MMORPG, follows the same pattern : kill, loot, grind, kill more, loot more, grind more but hey it had some unique qualities and nice graphics.
A runner-up would probably be..hmm..can't say runescape as i don't classify that thing as an mmorpg....maybe EVE online or Entropia Universe.
Hands down Roma Victor, what's worse, is I'll never have the couple hours of my life back that I wasted trying to play that steaming pile of.....well...you know.

Flyff & Scions of Fate...no wonder they're free.
