General: Blizzard: New Game Revealed

Last week, Blizzard put up a teaser site counting down to the 19th, when they would announce a new game. Rumors were going around about what game this could possibly be, with many saying it would be World of Starcraft, or Starcraft 2, or possibly a Diablo MMO. Well, the game has been announced and it looks like the RTS fans win this round, Starcraft 2 is now official.

    Personally I am not an RTS fan so Starcraft has never been on my Radar.

    I was worried that as much as a Diablo MMO is an exciting prospect, i was afraid that it would never live up to the hype and would tarnish my memories of this legendary game.

    Would love an original IP from Blizzard though - they rarely fail to make genre defining games.

    Starcraft 2! Alright. Love it. I would still love a new series from Blizz, and maybe one day we'll get it. Starcraft 2 is good though, and .... hell, it's about time.

    Not only was it SC2, but i read the press conference statements, and blizzard stated that they were NOT an mmo company and they will continue to make free online games.  I take that as, WoW will probably be the only MMO game that they will make.  If they do make anymore, it will probably just be expansions or a part 2 to WOW.  Which when i got to thinking about it, it makes sense because 8.5 million is good for an mmo but starcraft, warcraft, diablo all kill 8.5 million as far as copies sold.  So, battle.net is still blizzards bread n butter, I wouldn't expect any new mmo's from them for a LONG LONG time and possibly ever unless it's WoW related.

    Blizzard would be buzzkilled with any sequel MMO -- they run that risk with every expansion of wow already.  Just as no other MMO launch can avoid being compared to WOW now, the next Blizz MMO would be mocked horribly. So I think they are smart to stick to battle.net.  My son, who's an incredible battle.net maven and annoyed at how many times he has to explain that, no, he plays "Warcraft *III* not WOW!"  He hasn't stopped bouncing off the walls since the announcement hit.



    I would be overjoyed if Blizz managed to do the same popularization for the wargame that they did for the MMO tho -- wouldn't *that* be a trip?

    Happy  to see SC2, but I would've liked to see a new Diablo game; just my 2 cents.

    Blizzard has already won back the money they spent developing WoW around 1000 times...they couldn't care less if WoW would be deserted tomorrow...they got enough money to keep their business running for a lifetime.

    oh hell yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! damn this is gonna be great i loved the original SC now im going to enjoy SC2 EVEN MORE!

    I can picture starctaft II to be an mmo, but I'm as happy with just a rts. Wish they could have made it look a bit more dark and grim though, still sticking to those cartoony graphics. Its better then Warcraft 3... but still not too far away, especially terrain. Though no matter what negative comments someone says, I doubt very much that person isnt gonna get the game when it comes out. Oo

    I like how BLIZZARD ENTERTAINMENT makes its movies; they should make Hollywood movies for Diablo, WoW, and Starcraft. I would definitely watch them!

    hmm, somehow I can not picture SC2 as a MMO I second that! It just wouldn't be the same.



    While I'd love a great sci-fi MMORPG, I definitely prefer StarCraft in the RTS genre.

    A starcraft MMO would have been cool, but hell we really all had a long wait for SC2.

    Well, theres really not enough lore to make into a mmorpg imo, however, who knows they might actually do it after this.

    They could easily make a successful feature-length film with their quality cinematic. You'd be amazed with what they can do with computer animation these days (see any of Blizzard's, from any Warhammer game, and the neat Team Fortress 2 video on Fileplanet).



    I'd LOVE for Blizzard to do a movie or even episodic shorts for one of their settings.

    I love how they did it.  I've always said that if they made Starcraft 2 there are a few things that the must do and must not do.



    Must Not:

    -Make a new Race

    -Have rotating/zoom 3D camera crap



    Must:

    -Add units

    -Update Graphics with lighting effects, etc.

    -Keep view and UI the same



    And from those screenshots it looks like they either took my advice mentally, or they realized the same thing me and my friends realized.



    I'm going to be buying it on release just because they kept everything the same AS IT SHOULD BE.



    The no new race thing is because Starcraft was perfectly balanced, and I don't think you could ever balance it better.



    Cheers to them for making the perfect sequel to the perfect RTS game.

    Soooooo glad that it is SC2!  Blizzard probably realized the market is flooded with MMOG's and fantasy based games, so here comes a scifi RTS.  I posted here before that I hoped it would be SC2 and my wish came true. 

    Now the speculation will be when is World of Starcraft coming out I'd wager.....

    I am so glad they did not make it an MMO, I loved SC and I will buy SC2.
