You act like this is something new? He's admitted to this several times over the last year and a half.
They know they screwed the pooch. They've admitted to screwing the pooch.
I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!
In fact, forget the SWG!!!!
lmao. ____
Yea, and im sure they don't have permission from SOE, or the resources to go back to CU or PreCU. It really is too bad as it was a great game, even with massive bugs
What he said was that the "sweeping changes" made to SWG was a mistake. It's pretty straight forward statement.
I believe 100% that LA dictated the changes. He even hinted at that once. Give the guy a break.
That has been demonstrated as completely false on these and other boards. The NGE was never "dictated by LA." All ideas, notions, musings, designs, coding, and implementation came from SOE, not LA. LA certainly allowed it to happen and should never have approved of it, but NO ONE from LA dictated it.
SOE fanboys and shills have been spreading that false rumor for over a year and a half now, but have never produced one shred of evidence for it, in fact, all evidence and admissions go in the other direction.
However, if you have any evidence to back up your false assertion, please share it with us.

then the ::radio edit:: should roll back the servers, i would cancel WoW to play the old SWG with my old jedi.

Or at least open one or two classic servers. I wouldn't want the five people who actually LIKE the NGE to be screwed as we were, even if THEY cheered when we all got screwed. I'm just a better guy than they are, and I would like everyone happy.
It sounds great, so great in fact, I pitty those who canceled - Some deluded SWG fanboi who pities me. I don't like it when you say things. - A Vanguard fan who does too. 09f911029d74e35bd84156c5635688c0
They know they messed SWG up, but don't forget LA dictated the change (or so I believe) and SOE just executed it (in a TERRIBLE way)
As said before.. this statement is patently false, and even Freeman himself said that was untrue.
Like another poster said, this is nothing but a Fanboi falsehood meant to turn anger away from $OE.

Step 6 - Smedley dragged out into the town square at dawn and shot against a wall while Raph Koster and Gary Gattis and the original designers of SWG, look on with a cold eye from the balcony of the mayor's house, eating grapes. And once Smedley's body has stopped trwitching, Torres is dragged out. Then Nancy MacIntyre....
While SOE had the rights to make the MMO, LA still has absolute power over WHAT happens, ie: If they don't like it they can cancel the entire thing. SOE promised them money, instead they failed. LA failed to stop or change things.
Don't forget LA still owns the IP, they still control it, so I blame them for letting SOE executing stupid things.
The reason smeders is talking about this is due to the fact that they are polishing SWG – that is their plan- to slowly bring all the Pre NGE game play back under the expertise system. But make note that “I “and “we”--are still upset with the way the NGE was thrown on us.
In regards to VG Brad Sigil did more damage to the development of MMORPG's than innovation. So did the NGE. Lessons learned I hope… Yet I came back to SWG and I am having a good time. Weird…..

So now you have gone from "LA dictated the change" to LA let SOE do stupid things. Interesting.
What he said was that the "sweeping changes" made to SWG was a mistake. It's pretty straight forward statement.

I'm sorry to break this to you, but repeating a lie many times is not going to make it true. The NGE was not conceived/ordered by LA. Any real Vet knows this. Ask Jeff Freeman (if you know who that is)
SOE knows what you like... You don't! And don't forget... I am forcing you to read this!
He has it all backwards with regards to sweeping changes..
SWG " Great Game + sweeping changes = Peace of Crap
Vanguard = Peace of Crap + Sweeping changes = Playable Game
The problem is he thinks Vanguard started as a great game like SWG , IMHO sweeping changes are the only thing that will save Vanguard ..
SWG was never a success.
I found the old game funner (I admit), but yeah, it was a flop from day 1.
They did not let Koster realize his vision fully, released it in a beta state and so it flopped.
I was there.
No mounts, no vehicles, no player cities, etc. for months after launch.
If thats what you call a 'great game,' well then - LOL.
The original vision of SWG had a lot of potential (in fact, SWG still has a lot of potential).
Vanguard as it stands today has a lot of potential.
If I understand things right, the release of SWG was rushed. It went live before it was ready. It was buggy and incomplete. I joined the game after the Special Edition release, the one with the free goggles . I liked it at that point. There were still some bugs, but it was very playable, immersive and quite fun. If SWG would have released later, in a more complete and polished state, I think it would have done better out of the gate.
Regarding Vanguard. People were telling "Brad" not to release the game too early. They warned him and his company not to get pushed into an early release by SOE. The feedback from beta testers was, "It's not nearly ready! It's full of game-wrecking bugs! Don't do it! Make it complete, make it polished, THEN release it. Well, it was released in a very bad state anyways from what player friends tell me, and forums appear to confirm. Did SOE push an early release? Did the game fail because it was released before it was ready? If so, is SOE now claiming to be the hero coming to take over the game and fix it? Is that what happened?
@Arc: Pretty much. It's debatable if SOE pushed for live status, though it wouldn't surprise me.
SOE did not, however, push Sigil's development strategy. In fact, Sigil was more or less independent and relying on SOE for game hosting. Sigil released the game (IMO) because they ran out of money, and when in that position they became vulnerable to SOE. So SOE did save the day -- if not for them the game would have no development team -- although they now own the game.
That said, I tend to think that they bought a team and several years worth of technology for a song. Even if they are "heroes" such moves do not mean well for the industry as a whole.

Wow ..........400k to 450k subscribers wasn't a success? A game still runnning 4 1/2 years later with a still healthy population isn't a success?
What exactly makes a game a success to ya'll- that you like? There's more to it that that, for your information. I'd say that SOE is fairly happy with how SWG turned out, it made them a bunch of cash.
I'm really happy you love SWG and you are so gung-ho over it, But you need to educate yourself on what SOE and SWG is all about. I would think that at your age you could try to be a little more open minded. All your posts about SWG seem very uninformed of just blind to the facts.

Bottom line is that the game went from being a MMO with a ton of subscribers, then literally in a period of less then half a year lost 3/4 of it's subcribers. It may be doing OK right now, but it will never again reach the state that it was at. Just let the game die allready. Even talking about how sucky it is now is giving it recognition, and the SWG-NGE diserves none. They went from a very unique game type with a cool IP to being World of WarstarwarsCraft; of course, no one wants to play a world of warcraft clone when they could just be playing the original thing.
Gotta admire him for stepping up and admitting they messed up. He did the same thing in EQ after Brad left. Much respect to the guy.
Admire him? Your kidding right? Even with him admitting it years after the fact.. the prideful son of a... too little too late... the only way i would see it as a true apology is that he reverted it back to pre-cu

Not everyone can admit they are wrong, at least he knows his mistake, understands and is trying to make amends.
Is that right? Where is it?
Smed knows his mistake, and he can only hope not to screw it up again, but I don't see ANYWHERE he's trying to make amends when he wouldn't give to what many of the vets are asking for - Pre-CU servers.
Thank you, you nail my thoughts exactly.

Step two is to fix the problem.
Step 3 is to apologize.
Step 4 is to accept responsibility.
Step 5 is to resign.
Come on Smeddy... I'll settle for step 2.
