    Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE LOTRO. It's a great game and I'm having a blast playing it, but the community certainly puts a damper on it.
    I can't tell you how many times people have deliberately taken mobs when I'm headed to one, harvested nodes I've been standing next to killing mobs to clear it, trash talk in chat channels, name calling... it's a mess.  I've been in the barrows either soloing or grouping with a few friends and have seen groups of kinships come in and just clear the whole area, just as you're setting up to pull the Boneman or Malin.  There just doesn't seem to be any sense of community... everyone is out for themselves.
    I even recently rolled an alt to start again and see how the lower level community is... it's the same exact way!
    It certainly wasn't like this in closed beta.  People were friendly, welcoming, helpful and seemed to be much more friendlier.  The friends I have made on the server mostly agree that the community has more to be desired.
    This is on the Elendilmir server.  I know there have been posts at how great the server is, but I guess it's each person's perspective.
    I really hope things will change and that the jerks will move on as Jack said.  Otherwise, this could be a game breaker for me.  :(

    Yes there are those asshats who do as you describe on elendilmir. The reason i say it is an awsome community is cause this is the server were the majority of the closed beta kinships went to play the game. The shards of narsil being one of them. You also need to turn off /OOC it is a total waste of time and the main place asshats congrogate. Almost any kinship that was created at the start of live or posts in /OOC that they are recruiting are going to get more asshats than any other.

    No elendilmir is not perfect, nor is any other server. But if you do as others say and look for those of like mind and steer away from those who aren't it does increase your game experience and fun in the game. As i said before my name is grindalyx in the game and if you need someone to group up with you for a quest or by chance you are looking for a mature crafting kinship not full of asshats drop me a line.

    I think online games in general have poor communities, mostly because of immature asshats and griefers, be they punk teens or punk 20-somethings. To be fair, they are *usually* the vocal minority but they're very damn vocal.

    So far Arkenstone has been pretty good. I had to leave Brandywine though, it always had a queue after LOTRO went live, so I rerolled.

    You want a great game community up front, play Ryzom.

    I'd love to, I've had the trial installed for almost a month, and it won't let me login. Official tech support forum has been no help either.

    In all honesty, this is not a LOTRO problem, it is an MMO problem.  Every MMO I've ever played has had its share of malcontents, of rude and immature players.   CoH perhaps had the least trouble in my experience, but it still existed.

    Sm = (Tp / (Sm2 * π ) )

                              C2

    Sm = Smacktards

    π = 1.1415

    Tp = Total game population

    C = Speed of light (or the speed which smacktards get tired of a game)

    During the Day it seems totally better , very fun crowd. I will stick to the days and not do any more late night sessions . Also made a new rule, only party with Lore names

    I use this rule of thumb when I group.

    Shitty names mean shitty people.

    Glad to see everything worked out though. Good move to stick with lore names.

    In that respect MMO's are mimicing a real life trend I'm afraid. In all actuality it's been on the decline since EQ1's popularity grew circa 2002. As the popularity of this genre continues to grow look for things to only get worse.

    Loud mouth malcontents+absentee parents = bad community.

    I  took a break as well after hitting a few bugs last week did not play all weekend  and have not logged in this week. Sometimes a break is good, and as a previous poster suggested, letting those in a hurry pass you helps.

     However sometimes starting on another server works, finding  groups running through some group quests help, and  try not to take things so seriously.

     One of the things that started to bug me was groups stay for that one quest only and if there is an oh no leave right away, without willing to try other tactics.

     Most of all clearly if  not wanting to play it is ok, if not wanting to try and level another toon is ok, and it is suppose to be fun. When it becomes a chore or boring no need to bang your head or force yourself to log in ..

    Finding a new kinship would probably be the best course of action for you.  The kinship I am in all groups together and does fellowship quests.  Even our higher levels 40-45ish will come back and help the people in North Downs complete fellowship quests there.  I am currently 35 and I haven't grouped with non kinship members since my teens.

    Currently playing:
    LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)

    Looking Foward too:
    Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)

    Grindalyx I might actually 'look you up' ingame as well... I have three toons on Elendilmir... I was in closed beta since September. My highest toon is an elf Hunter at level 22.... The name is Letevandir

    Hang in there CJ.  Idiots are in every game unfortunately.  Even more sad is that 8 out of 10 times it's not kiddies.  Just listen to the 5/15 podcast for GFW magazine over at 1up.  The magazine editors actually brag about griefing people just for fun.

    Right now LotrO is the Flavor of the month.  Once people start getting bored the community will settle down and I have no doubt a more mature community will blossom fully.

    Good luck!

    I'm happy to say after leaving Meneldor I found a happy home in one of the other serves. Thats the joy of having sperate servers. Eventually you find the one with just the right flavor. Now I spend maybe half my time sitting and doing Woodworking while I gab with the locals in bree. The other half I spend exploring. I feel the pressure to see out new adventures but its amazing when you have a community that actually wants to stop and talk. Sorta reminds me of Anarchy Online before Shadowlands or COH.

    To be honest I think Lotro is definitely going to last a looong time. Maybe with a nice stable population of half a million. Maybe a bit more.

    If it did manage to go gangbusters like Wow did.. I wouldnt be amazed.

    I will be happy to help you in anyway i can. If you need help with a quest I may be too high for that as i am currently 34. But i am sure there are those in my fellowship who can use your help. Give me a holler and I will see what i can do.
