WoW woes!

So how is it that CoV and guild wars are better games than WoW according the the users of this site?  Granted WoW is full of kids and morons who are annoying as heck, it really is the best mmo out there.  Cov is better then WoW maybe during character creation and the first 2 missions *maybe*. Guild Wars may be a free game, but that doesnt make a game good.   WoW has depth and is just plain fun, furthermore it is the most played mmo.  So is it that people are ashamed that they enjoy this much flamed game, and thus vote it down?  Or is there something deeper Im missing?

I think that is the main reason I quit WOW.   It was heck of a lot of fun in the beginning, but now everyone is so rude and it is nearly impossible to find a group...at least on my server.

Ok, so you didnt read my original post?  The question was "why is WoW not even on the charts"?  Not "flame WoW some more"!

Because for the most part when alot of us played WoW, there was nothing that really made it stand out. Any novelty that it had at the beginning became tiresome after the repeative raiding and PVP began.

Examine just about every aspect of an mmorpg and WoW is beat by another game... Except perhaps for the incredibly easy nature of it. There are games with better graphics, better combat, better quests, better items, better stories, you name it...

However, WoW has population... and you cannot discount the draw of well populated servers. Nothing worse than spending an hour searching for a few other people near your level to do something with...

WoW also has relatively low hardware requirements. Blocky geography in vivid, simple colors will run well on just about any machine that can be called a pc.

The simplicity of gameplay, combined with low stress on the machine, and a virtually no-penalty for being pathetic game/xp/death system, also means that most of your never-touched-an-online-game-before friends are actually playing WoW.   And once again, it's hard to overestimate the draw of playing with friends who'd never touch a "hard" rpg.

Think of MMOs as food.... Some folks might want the high-end gourmet place, others might live at the sushi bar.... but far and away the largest number of people are going to be at the counter of McDonalds, day in and day out.   Does that mean McDonalds has the best food in town?

WoW is viewed as very trendy and pop culture and thus on these boards is a victim of it's own success. That's why this site's "rating" feature should hold little weight in how you personally view a game.

The general arugment seems to be that " the number of players playing WoW doesn't matter because they're all too naive to understand how bad the game "really" is".  Wow is a great game and should probably be rated much higher then it is but that's not what this particular community thinks. Unfortunate but that's the reality.

WoW (61 Orc Hunter - Blackwing Lair)

to answer your question in as simple terms as i can...

this is your opinion, that is everyone elses, if gw/cov is on top of wow that means majority of the gamers on this site like them better then wow :)

Great reply.  I agree it is very unfortunate, I guess WoW is like "the man" of mmos lol.

I just ended my subscription to WoW, today is my last day actually. I went back on SWG, giving it 1 month and if nothing else catching up with some people I used to run with (yes, there are people still around no matter what you hear on this site). I played WoW ever since I left SWG the first time, and yes I enjoyed WoW quite a bit. It is a clean game with wonderful polish and very easy to play. I didn't mind the immature community since most of the time you can get away from them if you really attempt to. I left WoW for 1 reason basically, I can't stand raiding. How is running the same dungeon with 24 other people 10-15-20 times hoping for your one piece of armor to drop and spending multiple hours per run trying to get it. Then it drops and you lose out on a roll, now that is time well spent. I don't knock the people who do it, all the more power to them, it's just not my idea of a good time. WoW was great for me from lvl 1-70, I just found things very boring once I maxed out. Don't take this as WoW or Blizzard bashing, I think they made a good product, seeing as how I have given them money for a year plus there is little disputing that. I was really hoping for that Starcraft MMO but oh well.

I always LOL at easy mode replies. Maybe I havent played any Hardcore MMORPGs but I dont see any difference.

Every MMO is pretty easy IMO. I think wow isnt in the top because most wow addicts dont even care about voting, and the rest likes to bash it to prove their game choice, but Tyler says: you're not youre MMORPG!

Well the point Im trying to get to is that people on this site actually like the game and it is only getting voted down because "thats what everyone else is doing".

I myself am playing WoW, Ive tried GW during beta and enjoyed it.  I myself really am disliking WoW... When I play it I just notice how Blizzard makes quests, droprates, and lvling very long and drawn out so that they may constantly suck money out of you every month.  You are constantly frail and weak and have not achieved nothing that gives you the feeling of strength and power until you hit end game, and  after about 2 months get some of the endgame gear.  There are also constant class "nerfs" to keep your character in a weakened state constantly drinking slow ass drinks to waste more time so that you dont (god forbid) have a funner faster time playing.  The only thing this game has is its methods of getting you hooked to get their end game gear.  I hate how cheap they are and believe thats why WoW isn't anywhere for top games, cuz its a kiddy game that is just a waste of your life.  I'm prolly ganna retry GW, not because its free which I believe is a good thing because they arent relying on keeping you playing for the dollar, but because these developers are all about the fun factor.

If Blizz comes out with Diablo 3 they better not make potions heal or gain mana over time, cuz uh fuck that.

I used to like Blizz, but now Im looken to other places for good games.

You probably haven't played GW. To say that GW has no depth us just plain wrong. It has as much depth as WoW + I like the pvp a lot more. I've played both and I must say that GW and WoW are quite different but both are very good games. Personally I like GW more because of the pvp and quests/missions.

Ok so you have never played EQ or EQ2 or DaoC or any other mmo, because wow has some of the highest drop rates of any game.

Im sorry you feel that Blizzard is actually providing you a fun experience, unfortunately for most ppl thats not true, and blizzard dissassociates themselves from this site cuz they know ppl relize the scam they pull right in front of your eyes as you play and give away your money to low bugdet crap.

Correct but just because they have what you think or may know have the highest drop rates, still doesnt make it good.  I play WoW and dislike the drop rates, but there was more to my post then just drop rates.

Yes for 8+ million people they sure are providing a really big fun scam  ,unfortunately for you the only thing  blizzard did was to produce a top AAA mmorpg game and leave the other companies in the long trail of dust my friend.  You keep talking about GW, but are u actually playing it or are one of those people that pretends to play games on this forums and then goes back to playing wow.  My friend its not blizzards fault u had an addiction to their game and now u hate them.  For every hater that leaves wow there are probably 20+ more signing up to play everyday.

    Lol YES!  Exactly!

Yeah ok true alot of ppl play WoW, and your only argument seems to be that alot of ppl play, Im just saying what I see when I play the game.  Dont tell me what other ppl see in the game, tell me what you see is so fun if you like it so much.  All your posts seem to consist of alot of stupid faces and LOLs, but no substance, pls alaborate on WHY you like WoW compared to the other MMO's.  Is that so much to ask?

yep have to say WOW was and is a great game,At least if its ur 1st try at a mmorpg,I played for over 2 years and really enjoyed it,yes there are alot of kids and yes the gen chat gets a bit much,I was lucky in an adult only guild and had a great time(i am 34).I have left WOW now but would never say it was a kids game etc etc.Lets be honest if it wasnt for WOW how many ppl that are now looking for the next mmo would still be happy playing there 1 man rpg alittle credit were it is due guys.....

If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"

Agreed... credit due $15.95 every month.... credit paid,  but aside from that I agree they have opened my eyes to new games out in the MMORPG world.

Please don't compare GW with WOW, these 2 games have nothing in common and are completely different. WOW has more users because it has a bigger fan base and Arenanet has only been around 2 years. WOW is more PVE and Guild Wars is more PVP.

But hey who knows maybe when GW2 comes out then maybe WOW users will think differently about paying a monthly fee for repetitive content wow offers people.
