I personally liked Final Fantasy 2/4 the best. 2(The super nintendo one) is much much harder than the PS1 game. I loved the characters in it and the story line was pretty cool. Kane's jump was an amazing ability lol.
Anyway, I thought 3 had a lot of plot holes in it. At one point in the game(where the continent shifted or whatever) I was just leveling so I could defeat the guy on top of that one tower(the one that is magic only). I thought that was extremely boring and I wish there was a little more to the story. The characters were very cool, but the story line lacked a bit. By far, prolly one of, if not theee hardest FF in the series. Without a walkthrough that is.
Now, hands down the worst FF is 5. Terrible plot, and the characters had no personality whatsoever. Once you passed a part in game, you couldn't go back and get a summon(Namely shiva, when she was hiding behind the waterfall, doh). It's pretty much impossible without staring at a walkthrough guide while playing, which is a terrible way to game.
FF 7 was a very good game. Period. I'm not too big on graphics, but if FF 7 was released with todays graphics, it would be even more amazing.
Suprisingly, i've never played FF8. I heard the game got really really boring after a while, so I never bothered. I might play it one day though.
FF9 was ok. Nothing too special. Just another FF.
FF10 wasn't anything spectacular. I had a lot of fun with it though. Good game. Definately worth playing.
While of course FFVII probably has the most in depth and twisted story of all FFs. My favorite will have to be FFX & FFX-2 without question. The storyline between those games is so rich and it draws you into a whole new world of Spria. You learn its history and you shape its future. You feel part of it, being the first FF that supplied voice actors. Furthermore the endings are rewarding in the end. The gameplay is flawless and the leveling in the first game in new and unique while the second game returns to it FF roots from FFV with the classic class system. I love the hidden world connections between FFX and FFVII also.
My favorite is Final Fantasy 2 for the Super Nintendo. That was probably the first really good story game I played for a console though I enjoyed the orignal Final Fantasy as well as the Dragon Warrior games. You start as a evil Dark Knight in service to an evil king who is having you perform evil acts for him. Eventually you turn to a Paladin about half way through the game. It's a lot of fun.
For some reason I don't remember the story for Final Fantasy 3 a lot though I remember I had a lot of fun playing it. Keefka was perticularly memorable as he was crazy and always laughing. The magic system was deffinatly unique in the way you could custimize every character.
Final Fantasy 7 has the best start to a Final Fantasy game IMO. I love Cloud and his brooding mentality. This is my third favorite FF game.
Who Knows, my favorite FF game might get replaced with the new FFXIII soon to come out. That gun that with a flick of the wrist turns into a Sword and then back again is whole new class of weapons available in a game along with the best graphics in FF history. The game thus far seems half futuristic and half mystical. Always a nice combination since that is what basically is FF.
I'm not really sure which Final Fantasy game I've played, but I think it was Final Fantasy II. I've only played one Final Fantasy and it was on SNES, suppose it's the second one. Not a big fan of Final Fantasy series, mostly because I've never bought any except the second final fantasy.

If you like the older games, try 5. If you want to see the newer stuff play something like 8. I personally hate 9, liked 10, despised 10-2 [it was like playing Barbies], 11 could have been better [That is the MMORPG one].
Favorite: Final Fantasy VIII (the whole story of Squall and Rinoa, and the connection to Ultimecia). If not VIII then definitely VII.
Least Favorite: Final Fantasy XII (hated the storyline, and the main characters were pretty bland)
A lot of old schoolers will say Final Fantasy VI was their favorite...I just don't see it though. Kefka is pretty much the only cool thing about FFVI.
FF6 is by far the greatest FF though, wether some disagree or others agree. It has the best storyline, character development, and Kefka makes Sephiroth look like a choir boy. My favorite is FF9 though, my least favorite is FF10 and FF10-2. Im currently playing 12. Licence board feels a bit awkward at the beginning but once you get to know it its easy.
For people who don't like the old 2D graphics Square has been working on new 3D version of 1, 2, 3 US games. I'm not sure about 4 JP though. I wish they would release their other games like Secret of Mana 2 for the Virtual Console or redo them for the Nintendo DS.

There is no game called Secret of Mana 2. Secret of Mana is actually called Seiken Densetsu 2. Seiken Densetsu 3 was never released in NA/EU, so there is no Secret of Mana 2. I don't really care if Seiken Densetsu 3 gets released on VC or not. I think Seiken Densetsu 3 is just shallow compared to Secret of Mana

I actually know that as I've tried it via sources that shall not be named and with help from those who translate ROMs from JP to EN. I've tried a bunch of JP games via this method and thought they were pretty god. I especially would like to see Romancing Saga 3.

Which FF Character Are You?

Well I have only played 7 through 9 and Tatics so my favourite of those has to be FF 7.
Since I never had a PS2 most of the newer versions are lost to me...
Alcanan
"The True North Strong and Free"
"Faith Manages"
To me the best FF is the VIII, and FFTA ^_^
Final Fantasy 7, hands down.
Close in the run, Final Fantasy 8.
