i feel that it is nearly impossible for this game to be hated at its stage its at right now.
Every MMO follower is begging for a new game that doesnt follow orc or goblins and such things like that and for a company to take a risk, POTBS did just that with a game fully funded by itself with no big business telling them what to do.
Its not suppose to get millions of subscribers so it shouldnt get the wow fanboys or any other games fanboys bashing it without trying it.
The graphics look amazing and i dont see how anyone can put down the quality of the apperance.
It has no real signs of being a poorly developed game, its not going to release until months after its original expected release date.
Im sure there are many people out there hating on this game but honistly i dont see how anyone could, im not a POTBS fanboy or anything, personaly im waiting for warhammer, it just seems to me like a very neutral game that took the risk of a new genre and a full player run economy.

I'm personally really hoping to either get a beta spot or that they do a free trial. *highhopes*
I'm tired of the whole elf/dwarf/etc fantasy scene and this game looks set to be something fun and different.
My only gripe with it if I'm totally honest is the graphics, the realism is there, which is great as it fits the genre (it is set in the real world after all) but it all looks too clean and shiny, if they darkened it up a little, and dirtied stuff here and there, I think the overall look would benefit a hell of alot, just my 2c though, still going to play it

And to anyone who says "You can't defy physics" or something equally ignorant, contemplate this:
We know what's in approximately 5% of the ocean. There are millions of species left to be discovered on EARTH.
It's likely that we'll never know what's possible/impossible. But I do know that I'll never play this game. Not appealing at all (to me, anyways).

He said to me, "On your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness." So I got that going for me, which is nice.
i think people are going to be surprised at how popular this game will be for a few reasons.
1. It's different. Its not the same old worn out formula of elves, dwarfs, orcs, dragons etc. I believe a large part of the gaming market is looking for something new and this will likely appeal to them.
2. Some evidence of its popularity can be estimated by the respone to Voyage Century. Granted Voyage Century is free, however my point is people aren't turning away from it because it doesn't follow the standard D&D formula of most MMORPGs.
3. The game looks beautiful and thats always a plus
Its sucess, naturally, will depend on how interesting the game is, customer support, the abiility to play with friends and intangibles like atmosphere. No game, at least in the near future, will be able to compete with WoW, so any comparison to that would be unfair. But, correctly done, POTBS will fill a niche for old gamers like me who are looking for something different. Peace.
I'm looking forward to PotBS purely becasue it offers something differnet to the fantasy third person hack fest the MMO market seems to have got itself mired down in but they really need to work on the PR side.
Just look at how WAR has generated so much hype simple by keeping joe public so well informed of the design process and thinking behind each major decision. No flashy demos or CGI sequences, just honest developer diaries with as much info as possible then let word of mouth take care of the hype.
Please, give us some chunky updates on PotBS as it seems very close to getting itself labelled as vapourware lately!
CoH/CoV - D-Zol/Kinslayer
Auto Assault - Slayer
WoW, LOTRO, DDO - Kinsul
Matrix Online - Tempest
I've played many games, and the ones that I play change weekly. Currently I am very interested in Gunbound, Poker, and Kwon Ho once more. I am thinking of returning to Maple Story and Ghost Online.
I wouldn't go as far as saying that I hate the game but I didn't like the direction the developers took it.
A historical game should be just that, historical but PotBS is quite far from that. Flying labs took historical and wow'ified it.
PotBS is breaking alot of new ground.
I think there's a type of MMO player who is really into the Fantasy setting and this game probably won't be for them. But for those of us who just want to get into a genre breaking MMO that definately charts new waters (to coin a phrase) this game would seem to have it all in a nice attractive package.
WoW (and yes, I'm a player) has set a pretty high benchmark for subscriptions. I'm not sure that we'll see another game hit those numbers for a while, though I wish all of the new ones the best of luck. But it did fall short in several areas that most of us who play it just tend to overlook because we just don't see another good option out there... yet.
It's not a guild friendly game. The mechanics for forming a guild and a basic chat option seem to be as much though as went into guilds by the WoW devs. Guilds just seem to be there to make it easier for people to chat about things and plan instance and quest events. Other then that, they don't serve much of a function compared to the likes of DAoC, Lineage, and EVE.
It's PvP is uninspired. Again, I'll point out EVE, DAoC and the City of Villians/Heroes games as better implementations of a concept.
I think PotBS will up the benchmark in alot of gameplay areas. And I look forward to sailing my own ships on Flying Lab's Seas.

It is kinda becoming the Duke Nukem Forever of MMOs
Oh ow. That hurt. Low Blow! DNF has been in development for over 10 years! We're not even up to half that.

Don't get me wrong, I am gonna play the game no matter when it comes out.
I am just afraid some will lose their enthusiasm if it takes a whole lot longer to get it released.
For the most part, the games before PotBS looked like this:
elves!
orcs!
more elves!
more orcs!
and then, for the most part, everything after PotBS looks like this:
barbarians!
elves!
orcs!
more elves!
etc.
So, for those of us who have basically committed genocide killing orcs and elves over the years, its either wait for PotBS, however long it takes, or kill some more orcs and elves.

Aye, QFT. Its a title with unique setting so im sure regardless of whats out itl garner some attention. Ofc big boys may hold a lot of people but that would have happened anyway. Not many pirate titles out there, and those that are, arent seen as quality titles so im sure PoTBS will hold it own.
