Seriously though... For me, the problem isn't that I don't want to exercise... Its that when I do have time to game I EITHER have time to game or work out... And just to put that in perspective, I haven't been to the gym in 5 weeks, but I also haven't had time to play my game(s) of choice either... When I can, I do both... When I can't... well...

I like they way you think! Alas, sex ain't happening around here these days. I think chocolate, red meat, and tequila are my substitutes for it. I guess that gives me a goal to go for, though.

I know what time issues are like. I think it is probably an "either/or" choice for a lot of people. I remember days of coming home from work some nights so exhausted that it was all I could do to plop in the chair to play and wind down before bed so that I could get up the next morning and do it all over again. Right now my schedule is pretty open. It's a good thing. ;)

Going to the park now that kids are all home. Time to go give the kids on the courts something to laugh at.

    ...

All we need is a game where you can play with your kids, have fun and stay in shape... 3 birds in one stone ^_^

In order too do this you would have to get virtual with the actual MMO.  Basically, you would wear a suit that is connected to electrodes, connected to your computer.  Every move you would make, your toon would make in game.  This would cause you to exert energy, thereby burn calories.  I can see it now, you swing your arm and the electrodes would sense the movement causing your toon to swing his sword.  Walking in game would require you to trot in place or run in place.  Nintendo Wii has already started manipulating this with their little controller.  Imagine a whole body suit that does the same thing.  THIS...is the only way an MMO will be healthy for you because it will be excercise.  I don't see the hardcore MMO gamers doing this, especially the fat mountain dew chugin, hotpocket eatin, no life players.

I have heard of Dance Online. Frankly that isn't exactly an MMORPG... I am talking about a real mmo where you have a living breathing online world and you use motion sensor controls to move your character around.

You have exactly the same idea that I am thinking of. That's the idea, you want to lose calories but have fun at the same time. Let's face it, exercising is boring, doing threadmill is boring, running and jogging is boring.... if fun when you do something like play basketball or baseball or tennis... but sometimes we can't always do that.... so the idea is... its an MMO game where you are playing at the same time working out. That's what this idea is all about.... I hate doing exercises because it's boring.. but I have to force myself to in order to stay in shape... soo what if i can exercise and play an MMO at the same time. That would be the perfect world.

wasn't there an invesitgation of some sort that actually showed that more people LOOSE weight than gain, due to the fact that many neglect eating/or pospone it?

anyways, i'm 1.83m tall and weigh 55-60kg i'm a hardcore/elitist/whaever you call it -gamer. i eat much more than average person (like 6-10 meals a day, yeah i like food), i stopped with sports long ago due to injuries, of school i'm doing the IB diploma, so yes, i spend most my day on school and infront of my computer, and guess what? i'm NOT putting on weight    i guess this proves that just having your brain at a high level of activity is sufficient

    Knowledge is Power!

It's been show that eating a lot of small meals per day is a lot healthier than skipping meals and then overeating. Coupled with regular exercise is how you stay in shape. Also avoiding sweets and salty foods help too. I guess people have different metabolism and some people get fat faster than others. Still exercising regularly is important.

There's that dance dance revolution thing already...

Sure, there can be more games that require SOME movement...

but I don't see a suit thing going on, or requiring much movement anyways...The reason...you'd be knocking things down everywhere...

Anyways, if you find exercise boring, well, you can do that while watching tv or something?

Or, on the other hand you can train yourself(your brain) not to be bored. Be more focused. (When I get bored, usually only when I run, I run faster and as it tires me more, and I don't have time to be bored... Or you can get some rythm going on while exercising?)...

PS - since you're talking about mmos... It probably won't happen for around atleast another 40-50 years if not longer...

You might not be overweight but you are not in shape if you do not train your body.

30 minutes to and one hour a day can make you very fit. I would say just take an or or so out of your day and work out.

Be cool to people, and try and stay cool that way you never have to regret making someone feel bad. Don't take what ya got granted because some people never get to feel happy. We get to play these great MMOs and surf a good site. Be thankful for what ya got and next time ya feel down imagine a fat sea otter waddling with a pillow and a night cap. Bam! smiles!

To the person saying sex is enough of a workout I would say not a chance. I get tired of hearing guys saying that stuff when every woman knows that the average male lasts 3 to 5 minutes tops. I am gonna go out on a limb here and suggest not working out for 3 to 5 minutes and saying your in shape.

I think the recommended daily exercise is about 1 hour per day.

Are you guys kidding me you don't have time? I work 8 hours a day mon-fri, and a full time GF. Im able to game still about  4 hours a day and maybe 4-6 hours on weekends, also workout 30 min-45 5 days a week. Also the part about eating right.. just don't eat so much damn fast food all the time, eat healthy.. its not always that bad. Teryaki ) or BBQ  =oP_) chicken, rice, corn, peanuts, lean pork, fruits ( apples, oranges etc) vegtables, yogurt.. shit like that and you should stay in good shape.

That would be because most people have little imagination, and most guys are just worried about getting off... If they all realised that there was a lot more to sex than that, and that it wouldn't kill them if they didn't get off, they would burn a lot more energy.

Bahk, I get up at 6am, have breakfast with my GF and am out of the house by 7:15(or 7:30 if I take a long shower or if I have to shave), I start work at 9am. I usually work till 5:30 or 6pm. I'm usually home by 7, have dinner ready at 8(yes, I am the cook in our house), and then I have from 9 till 11 to either work out or play a game, because if we go to sleep later than 11, either one of us, we will have trouble getting up at 6am. If I have roughly 2 hours per day to choose to either game, work out, or spend non-gaming time with my gf, it does become a choice. Please, I would love to hear about your schedule.

10-30 minutes of cardio on every other day while eating right will make you lose weight. If you do 20 minutes of strength training between cardio days you can get in some pretty good shape.

BTW If you care about your partner as much as you say, working out would be a priority then. Working out not only keeps you healthy for a long life with your partner but it makes you look good for that partner.

I don't think you can make a mmo that is good for you lol Maybe if they made a huge tony hawks game, in an mmo world it will incourage you to go outside and skate, which would make you fitter, therefore more healthy lol

Personally you could do what i do if you want to keep fit:

    - go running everyday

    - all terrain boarding

    - bmx and mountain biking

also i go skiing now and again its nice having a skiing dome a 15 mins bus ride away

edit: theres also these games on the gym machine now, maybe someone will make a olympics type of online game that use all the diifferent machines ;p
