I'm looking for a good PvP game that takes strategy or some other player skill, and not "who ever has played the most" type deal. I would prefer one single overworld but lobby based is fine too, this doesn't have to be a MMORPG, but needs to be at least an MMO with more than 10 players, but all multiplayer games are considered.
It would also have to have some sort of level or skill system if you will, or stat tracking reward thing.
Games that would fit this description that I have tried include "AoE 3 with the homecity leveling, Gunz, Gunbound, Puzzle Pirates" among many others.
If anyone could help me with this search I would be very grateful.
P.S. Can be F2P, B2P or P2P

I have looked into Dark age of Camalot but I also heard that game is way past the point where new players can be of any significance. I never tried it though so any comments about it would be much appricieted.

ayways, there is no need to catch up skill wise in eve, theres always just a limited amount of skillpoints able to be used at ones, the veterans will just have more options of flying a more variety of ships, all you need to do is specialise

so basically, look for a good corp, that will teach you well, many corps also help replacing of lost ships.
and as long as you follow the golden rule: never fly (or fit!) what you can't afford to loose, or replace, you should be fine

I played Rakion but I found it didn't have the depth or strategy I was looking for in a game.
RYL is about the only first-person style, real-time combat system in an mmorpg so far--just hit esc to switch between fpr and click-to-attack mode.
Only problem will be findind a good server to play on, but just google and check some of them out.
Most of them have extreme exp now, so you can level pretty fast. It's a complex game though, and it will take you a while to learn to play well and build good equipment.
Age of Conan, Tabula Rasa and Chronicles of Spellborn will also have fpr combat, but they're not out yet.

Almost correct, the skillsystem is a huge pain, but you'll be able to catch up or even outclass with propper specialization. If you plan what you are going to fly (I'd recommend Heavy Assult Cruisers or Recon) and plan that strictly with all related support skills and tech fittings you'll be looking at about an year which can't be influenced much other then with implants and training all learning skills to level 4. Use EvEMon to plan http://evemon.battleclinic.com/ your training path from the start.
You'll also need a second account to help you finance your pvp habit, allthough you could farm isk by killing npcs in astroid belts and by running missions, practically a second account saves the day financially and often practactilly.
Also PvP is pretty hardcore on your time, loose a ship in 20 seconds spend a couple of hours shopping and rebuilding and that is if you have the isk to do so.
Hmmm, I don't know who told you that but that's just so wrong. Battlegrounds have caps and you can live there forever if you wish and catch up in 1 or 2 weeks depending on your skill and time commitment. Also for a new player the battlegrounds are important since this is where you will wringle your way into the community and will get your groups in the Frontiers (the level cap RvR grounds). It can and will be hard to find your way into the gank/elite groups but show skill and perform well and there will be no issue (provided you've reached RR5 which is doable for any new player but also required to get yourself the experience needed. Propper use of the battlegrounds will almost completly get you there. As with EvE you'll need two accounts (one to buff you) but this is not the case if you play on the classic servers instead (that removes one expansion and the buffbots).
Personally, I'm playing EvE Online atm (21mil SP and 10 mil SP) living in 0.0 but EvE pvp simply doesn't match DAOC, similar adreline rushes but DAOC is way faster in getting back to the battles but also more skill based then EvE. DAOC is far more group oriented (fixed size) then Eve, but both have all kinds of warfare from solo to massive 200 vs. 200.
Especially EvE's skillsystem is getting on my nerves (32 days in real life to train a required skill for the loose), the cool thing about EvE for me is that it is trully massive (one 'server' to fit them all) and that you can continiously swap your fittings and thus the role of your ship. But I find myself being bored way too often aqnd often thinking about moving back to DAOC.
I'm not sure if the newest expansion is out yet, but that includes a redone gfx update which brings it closer to 2007 (it's still topdownview but at least with crisp graphics). It's depth is huge though, as old player vs. new player advantage go... I'm not sure.
DAoC being my first MMO I must admit that it's grand and it's PVP is/was (haven't played in a while) great. We all whined and criticized Mythic but they were right, and we were wrong. In that game, skill, experience, knowledge and preparation DO make a difference, so the people who are looking for an FPS time of PVP, look elsewhere but was a great experience, matched by no other 'normal' MMO. It is however WAY past it's expiration date so investing your time into it might not be smart but you'll have fun for as long as it lasts.
I now play EVE online, it's so different from anything else. Yes there's a lot of moaning about how the Devs favour one side and all that, talk of cheating Devs and whatnot. Still, I really think they will be unable to break their own game. I caters for the smart and punishes the ignorant, Darwinism at it's best.
You DO NOT NEED 2 or more account at all, money can be made with every aspect of the game and if you're smart about it the most money is made with doing absolutely nothing. Just like in real life you have the hard workers, middlemen, top brass and the thieves, take your pick. As stated earlier having a lot of SP mostly means being able to do more different things, but you can only fly one ship at a time so there IS a cap on SP per ship, also the level 5 skills take rediculously long but give the same gain increase per level. So someone might have 3 times your SP but only do 5% more damage, 5% more range, 5% more cap and all that, ofcourse it adds up but it's not something that can't be overcome with tactics and wit.
'Crafting' in EVE is second to one, as is trading, teamwork, the adrenaline when you fight, nothing comes close to it. BECAUSE you put your stuff on the line there's so much more incentive for you to perform, to learn, to adapt, to WIN you'll have adrenaline coming out of your ears when fighting.
But; it's not for everyone, you have to be a bit of a masochistic paranoid sadist to do well in certain aspects of the game (or just accept the fact that you'll meet these sorts of people), it will also punish you severely for every mistake you make, all you can do is learn from it, as fast as you possibly can.
It's brilliant, and anyone saying that EVE is about mining or mission running clearly has no clue what he's talking about and you should just avoid those kind of replies. People have ofcourse the right to not like/play the game but at least base your ideas on FACTS rather than whiney hearsay. Go try it and accept the fact you'll be beaten down a number of times, take pride in learning from it and create your own niche in the game.

Hmmm, where do you base your way past expiration statement on? Clusters still peek @ 2000~2500 at prime time US. New content is still added, new expansion pack is on the horizon. Sure it isn't the 300k subscribers it used to have, but there is enough left to have a good time. Classic servers have a very active low level experience as well I'm being told.

Sure, but euhrm he's asking about PvP, i.e. living in lowsec/0.0... Outside of NPC space that means you have two options: rat for your money or mine for your money. Mining in 0.0 requires two accounts (one to tank rats and one to do the actual mining/hauling), sure a friend can help but that would also mean splitting your profit and thus doubling the amount of time you need to mine not to mention the dependency on those friends.
Say you go out pvping 8 hours a day and average a 4 to 1 kill ratio, how often do you need to replace your ship? Bottomline is that you'll need to partake in the economic part of the game in order to fund your PvP habit or stick to one character and make your money by killing rats (which cuts pvp to pve ratio 10/90).
This is talking from the way I play the game (100% 0.0 based). Life in empire is different but then again there is hardly any pvp (only when your corp/alliance declares war/is declared war and then that often results in either gate/station camping (gank) or loosing your ship 1 vs 20).
Saying those 5% don't matter and advertize specialization to catchup with old players just doesn't add up... You either specialize or you don't.
Sure the crafting system is second to none to bad there is a major flaw with t2 bpo's but granted invention solves that a little bit. Still crafting = pve. Same as the meta gaming aspect... that's second to none as well... neither are related to his question about PvP though.
