guys playing female chars in mmogs

Soo I was wandering why some guys play female chars in most mmogs,it just freaks the hell out of me sometimes to see 60% of a guilds members being female chars played by guys entirely.Personaly I never played a female char in any game and never wanted to,soo im asking why dont you play the gender you are in real life.I would realy like it if future mmogs restricted the char gender you can pick by checking the gender you signed you account to.

As long every player have a choice every time they make a character, we will have gender benders. And that is just the way it is.

I always think there is a dude behind every female character in  all MMOs

why would it matter who the RL person is playing an avatar? its a game. i play tomb raider, resident evil i played jill, i played final fantasy x-2 where most were girl chars, and so on. only time playing a female char is weird is in an mmo where roleplay is big. otherwise who cares. your not gonna pick up a girl based on her avatar so no need to worry.

I mean, I generally play a character that I am in real life (male), but occasionally I feel the urge to not constantly stare at an ugly model that gives me nothing aesthetically pleasing out of viewing it.

Does that mean I'm screwed up?  No, not really.  And I make sure that everyone knows I am a guy.

The only reason to care what the sex of the person on the other side of the monitor is:

A: You're using the game as a dating service. Which is sad, and pathetic in it's own right.
B: You tried using the game as a dating service, and got scammed out of gold/items that you
gave to a female avatar, thinking that she would become your lil love slave after doing so, only to find out that you've been wanking to a guy, while he types naughty things to you in the Ironforge tram.

P.S. If you answered yes to B, that does, in fact, make you wicked gay.

    Almost perfectly said RyGy.

except i am a rl female gamer . But there are so very few female gamers compared to the female char. in a game its kinda creepy. The explination ive heard from guys is. If they have to be a char for 60 lvls ect. they would rather be looking at a chicks ass than a guys.

SO in a world where not everything is as it seems. thats the least creepy reasioning

Good point, why should it matter if the person is playing a girl? Are you looking for love in a MMORPG?  I personally never play as female characters but I dont care if someone else does. Coldmeat I think you hit the nail on the head as to why people get upset over this, they are lonely people hoping to meet a girl in an online game.

You can tell when a guy is playing as a girl in most mmo's.  They take their clothes off and dance.  The ones that talk to you all the time about their life outside of the game, that's how you can tell that it's a girl.  They will tell you that they are a girl, even when you don't care to know that exactly.  A guy who is playing a girl will rarely tell you that.  Most guys are honest, they just wanted to roll something different.  Their main was a guy and beefed up enough, so they decided that playing a girl this time would mix things up a bit.

Of course there are plenty of girls I know in RL that play as men.  Yes that's right, women playing as men.  When you see two of the same class hanging out all the time playing with each other all the freaking time.  They might just be a married couple in RL that is checking out the game.

I personally like to keep my main as a man as well, but out of every five characters I roll, a girl comes out, so that I can mix it up a little bit.  Of course we are talking about WOW where the content is limited and gets repetitive really fast.  Most older and probably some of the newer mmo's will keep players stuck on their mains for a longer period of time.  But yes, I would think a player who decides to play as a woman over a man that is a man the first time, is either gay, or a little confused.

I play dont play female characters unless I am forced too... like in diablo i wanted an amazon... i however gave her a male name and certainly didn't pretend to be female.
  • xander23xander23 Member Posts: 9

the only point where this would matter is with sexual preditors.  Otherwise i dont think it matters SOOOooo many guys i know play female char. and i dont think they are gay or confused.  If they come to a game like wow to get their rox off. then they should be reported.

Ive also heard guys say they make female char. because people are more likely to help girls out then they are guys.  which ive seen. and agree with.

    Greetings.

I mostly play male toons in the games i play. However, i do have a few female toons as well. These female toons are ROLEPLAY  (did i stress that enough) characters. I am a roleplayer, have been for over 15yrs and i'm not a homosexual (which phrasing in your poll and post would imply). These are Massive Multiperson Online Role Playing Games. (duh).

Next, you will never see a sucessful MMO that excludes the option for playing either gender. The companies know about the cross dressing players, the companies know how many cross dressing players there are and know that each one is a paying customer. to exclude this option is to exclude these players and their money. And last time checked, the companies didn't design the games to NOT make money.

and here's something to think about: 90% or more of ppl who play video games are male. Tomb Raider was one of the most popular and successful video games of all time. Tomb Raider's Lead & Only character is Lara Croft ( female if i'm not mistaken). What does that make the players of Tomb Raider?

i am a guy that will sometimes play as a female avatar, and there is nothing wrong with this, i mean, jesus, ur playing a ROLEPLAYING GAME! im mean, should we start getting mad at people that play as Blood Elf mages because their not really a Blood elf mage? if people are trying to get stuff because their trying to manipulate others by trying to act like the other sex to get special treatment, well, no-one said you had to give stuff to someone else, and if you do, tough shit, ur the loser that cant tell the difference between a woman and a man playing as a women. go get a life and maybe a real girlfriend, not the gay guy playing as that hot night elf

When you have to stare at your character for months you want to look at something eye pleasing.

Most straight guys like to look at girls.

As guys looking at male characters for hours at a time...

    What about our PvP champion?

You know, the Barbarian male who is incredibly awesome and kicking ass?

You know, it is a chick that play him.

    Is that wrong?

Or would you prefer that we play fat characters that look like us?  Get over it, it is a game, not a dating service.  If you attend a wedding in such a game you are either super cool and just joking around and making fun, or the worst geek ever.

Yea well Im a guy, why wouldn't I be allowed to play with female characters?

I play female characters sometimes and there's nothing wrong with doing it.

Nobody has rights to tell me that Im not allowed to play with female characters.

And no, when Im playing with female characters I don't try to act like a girl.

It depends.. some people view online friends as equals to rl freinds. If I was your friend and pretended to be a guy.... then 4 years later i tell you... oopps sorry i was lying im a girl and i just made up all the shit we talked about for 4 years... Would you not be extremely angry I lied all those years jsut to find out i was some bitch who was probably laughing her ass off everytime you talked to her. (btw im a guy im just making examples)

Dont say it doesn't happen its happened in my clan like 5 times already...not to me of course... i don thave many freinds.

It completely depends on your view of online friends... if you dont consider people you only know online a REAL freinds then you shoudn't really be disgussing this anyway. Your probably thinking about some random girl character selling epic items on the street corner... whereas im refering too the people in your clan that you will probably be talkign with outside the game for years.

I'm a guy and I usually play female characters in these games.  Reason is simple.  If I have to stare at the back of a character for endless hours, I'd much rather look at a female.  There is a bit more to it than that though.

Since most MMO's are 3rd person view, I feel more like I'm controlling the character, rather than being the character.  If it was a 1st person view, it would feel more natural to roll male.

    Edit:

It's just like the Tomb Raider phenomenon.  Do you think it would have been anywhere as popular if the lead character was a guy?  Of course not.  When I play Tomb Raider, I don't play it thinking I'm Lara Croft or that I want to be her.

So uhm if I want to play a Gnome I need to be one? Or a Tauren, by your 'rules' only Taurens can play a Tauren so that doesn't quite work, now does it?

    Play what you want.

Wow, I keep seeing threads popping up about this topic. I'm a RL female gamer. I play male characters to avoid harassment and to be treated as an equal. I certainly don't play a male character because I'm a lesbian and I really don't think that men play female characters because they are gay. Why does it matter so much? Are men really questioning their sexuality over this? Do men really think they are gay because they were tricked by some guy in a game with a female avatar? Is the male psyche that fragile?

Male psyche isn't that fragile.. Atleast not over here =)

Again the truth comes from females mouth. (fingers, writing..)

Edit: I play what I feel like creating at the time I start playing.
