I've tried to put a word for it in the "site suggestion" part of the forum but I think there's more people here...
So, if you read the interview with Bill Roper :
www.shacknews.com/extras/2007/011007_roper_hellgate_1.xyou'll see that this game must be in the game list like Dungeon Runner or Fury or GW. In fact it has some things i've dreamed to see in a MMORPG. take a look at this article and you'll know what i try to mean...
I'm an old MMO veteran and I really hope that Hellgate will bring some fresh air to my deep boringness ^^.

Yes. Hellgate sounds excellent and it has just as much right to be listed on MMORPG.COM as Phantasy star universe, guildwars, dungeon runners and any of the other similar types of game. The only difference is, i belive Hellgate London will be far better than any of these.
So yes, it should be listed, it has a hell of alot of followers to.

No
It's exactly like GW. And since I don't think GW qualifies to be here, neither does Hellgate. Now, if they'd just remove GW....
But then again, this site has slowly but surely been "expanding" it's definition of MMORPG. It now includes browser-based games (I believe one of the pre-requisites for being listed was having a client ), the game had to be in English, website and all (yeah, we've seen how that one's changed), and the term massively multiplayer was dumbed down to 100 players per server/game or more. So, don't be surprised when ya login here someday and see the multiplayer version of HALO listed.
lol someones hard.

Jeez, why all the hate for games that are not in the WOW or EQ model? So what if games like Fury and GW are more PVP oriented? So what if some games are all instanced? So what if games like Age of Conan and Hellgate: London allow you to play single player or multiplayer (last I heard the first 20 levels or so of AOC are all solo). The MMORPG market is evolving and I think that's a good thing, and MMORPG is right to recognize that trend.
If you claim group instances ruin what MMORPGs are all about, why not hate DDO and LOTRO, which also include a great deal of instances? Heck, why not hate WOW which in the end is also all about the instance. If you claim that MMORPG.com is going to start including Halo, well don't worry because Halo has no real RPG elements. However, FPS games like Huxley and Planetside do, so I don't mind them being on this site.
Personally, I think Hellgate: London should be included on the site if it has robust multiplayer functions that allow thousands of players to join up online. If the game is designed mostly to play alone or with small groups of friends, then no I don't think it should be on the site. But in either case I am looking forward to any game that combines action RPG and FPS elements in a cool setting.

But... I suppose any MMO technically could be made into an MMO... so the question is where do you draw the line and with what marker you draw it with...
I think people are missing the whole idea about 'Massive' part to the MMO's, the more seamless the world is the more 'Massive' it is.
Instancing was created to deal with the issue of too many players in single area doing same content. They should really work on the tech to resolve that problem then heavily instance the game. ( I realize easier said then done.)
Things like 'loading' between planets (SWG), or Major continents (WoW) is alright.
noo , people are not missing the point at all , everyone knows what is like to have 10 seconds lag to see 100 avatars running around in a huge persistent world.
but is that what everyone wants ?
i think the devs are trying to find the middle way , not lose that MASSIVE feeling and still have a decent game play.
cose with games that have 10 secs lag , the onyl game play you can have is Clic Target Atack Cast Spam Macro stuff , its geting old really fast.

I'm sure planetside have a couple of roleplayers, no doubt.
But Guildwards is neither an MMORPG nor an MMO - It's an CORPG. Kinda like BF2 could be viewed as an COFPS.
Hellgate will lose that 'Massive' feeling, just read that interview linked by OP, its no different then GW.
Simply put, you will see more games a lot more instanced then WoW, and being passed off by companies as MMO's for the sake of a monthly fee.
I'm not sure what lag you are referring to, I had a lot of fun without lag at Xroads in WoW(circa 2004-Q1 '05) or in SWG imps vs rebel fights(circa 2003-2004)
- what I've learned to hate in basic's mmorpg's concept is the fact that mobs and zone follow your advancement in the game, so as you progress you'll find the same challenge until the mobs became "grays" or whatever. you can kill one or 2 or 3 and a little more if you're an aoe master mobs of your level, as you change of zone mobs will match your level. the feeling of being heroics fade out with this concept, you can't destroy a vast numbers of opponent wich give you xp. it's even worse in dungeon or with "elite" mobs. you have to be 5 or more in order to kill a simple guard in these instancied areas (except if you have all the stuff of end game raiding zone and of some special character class...). (in fact after having raided in wow at aq40/naxxramax for more than 1 year I'm back in D2 lod to get this feeling again, but nevertheless it was a great experience of course ^^).
- the fact that zone'll never be strictly the same as your enter in is very interresting. instancied dungeons where you'll find strictly the same amount of mobs with always the same pathing is so boring for me now that i want something different. Bill Roper : "You might be running through a level, but there's a grating in the ground you've never seen and it leads to a hidden passageway. Maybe it only happens 5% of the time or 1% of the time. You might be playing through the dried Thames riverbed, and you've been playing the game so long that you've been there 100 times, but this time there's a monster you've never seen, or a quest there you've never done, or a fissure in the wall that takes you to some crazy side instance". for example.
- a non-static loot table : you know that "your" f..in' dagger or piece of armor set drops on the 4th boss of this damned instance and you have to do it until it drop. again and again. with an aleatory concept of loot drop everyone with some luck has a chance to loot something really cool even if it's not for you you can trade it.
I hope that this game will not bring a "new" concept (a lot were in D2) but a new feeling in the MMORPG's world for sure.
but we all know that they always lie ...

Such peoples imagination as to how a massive multiplayer should be are so narrow and constricted that I wonder if these guys have brains of chimpanzees or maybe their minds have been corrupted by too much WoWing and such.
AFAIK Gw is massive.. why? because it doesnt matter wherever from the world you are you can play anyone at any time.. that is massive... no boundaries.
Can you do that in WoW??? not in my lifetime NO!
Retards
i~ku~ra
No...
Guild Wars maybe is there... but that doesnt mean more games should be added that arent mmorpg's ... or sorry? Did I accidently type in the wrong adress in my browser?!
THIS.. IS.. MMORPG.COOOOOM!!!!
EDIT: .. ignorant are we? calling everyone a retard that doesnt share your opinion? wow... some people go beyond retardation.
Can you see all of these people around you at the same time, at any time? No. Do you pass by hundreds of real, live people as you are exploring a massive world? No. It's a digital chatroom with a limited multiplayer capability.
And since I said no, I must be one of the "dumb dimwits" with "the brain of a chimpanzee" who happens to be "retarded", right? Judging from the level of your post, what exactly does that make you?
Well, in the end most people would catagorize it as a fantasy based RPG... and it doesn't really matter what people think.
I'm sure the staff here at MMORPG.com have their critiera for adding a game to the site's list... and Huxley isn't meeting it yet.

I remember back to when I played Guildwars.... there was a Halloween event, and in certain key cities some sort of Pumpkin King showed up to ask us riddles/jokes and give out free stuff. There had to be at 200 people or more in the town I was standing in. I could talk with them, pass by them, dance with them. Oh, that's right, I guess we couldn't all go out and adventure 'together'....
I remember raiding in WOW... we'd get up and head to BWL with our 40 players.... and spend the entire night in the instance...Wouldn't see any other players while we were doing it.
So, in each case, was I playing in a MMORPG, or was I in a digital chatroom.
The lines aren't so clear anymore as to what makes an MMORPG....
