My System Specs: AMD Athalon 3500+ 256 radeon x800 xt 2gig of crucial balastic ram 7200rpm hardrive
Started digital download about 5:30pm was done by 11pm
Dislikes.. you had to do some renaming of paths / folder creation etc.. to get the download to work, nothing major.. then a system restart before it would load.... But worked after that
Playtime this weekend about 17hrs..
Crashes to desktop:1
Found bugs: 1 (some quest npc was stuck in the roof of the training area, i put in a ticket, then in about a hour, a GM was there "checking it out" and i showed him the workaround (you can click him if you stand under him through the floor) Gm talked to me as a new player about me playing rogue and how it's cool but very hard to solo.. a real group class (they are more ninja i guess then WoW solo god)
Graphics: AWESOME.. grass and trees sway in the wind.. I had the game on balanced, ran smooth as pie except in town it got a little laggy I could turn the graphics to full blast for some screenshots (which i did because graphics are AMAZING) on par with ryzom for best looking game graphically.
Sound: standard MMO flair
Found: hard to find groups, found one.. server merger coming up thank god.. could have found more if i tried but i didn't
Classes Played: Have a lvl 5 dred knight and a lvl 5 rogue (rerolled due to my nameing issues in life) and started in the RP server, moved off, moved back.. i just like rp servers.. (my own issues, lol)
Can't wait for: Housebuilding.. Shipbuilding.. people talk about (well when blacksmiths can make, but noone can yet..)
I really like how stuff in the game is way out of reach for the players currently, this game reminds me a tad of what people called pre-nge starwars.. or atleast had the feel those fans talked about.
Conclusion: Can't wait to explore the game more, am super excited.. suprised how well it ran and looks on my mid ranged system, the bug fixing patch by sony must have worked, because i encountered one all weekend.. maybe i'll give you a update what i think in a week. THIS GAME IS UNDERRATED and alot of fun to try if you got some cash on had..
ADDED EDIT: I also liked how at lvl 1 you look like your in "street clothes" and run around w/ a weapon in a shirt and pants and how your armor upgrades look the part.. and graphically again it's amazing

MAGA
I didnt start in all areas, but the woodelf and Tanvu starter zones are very well done. They guide you through a real story. Tanvu heavily designed like ancient china and the story is about Kung-Fu and Jin (which is what the chinese people call chi ). Jin is a bit of a special feature in this game and the story tells you in form of lore how to use it. Its all well done and a lot of fun. Zones and buildings are nice and well textured. Crafting, if you like to start out a profession, is well guided and teaches you the necessary steps. In Tanvu there is an underwater quests (catching fish) and it is a bit annoying, because the swim animation is not working well and pathing can be a pain. Thats the only "bug" you probably will encounter for 10 levels.
Late teens and then in you twen's you start to recognize that the devs had to rush out a game. More and more textures look a bit wrong. Quests arent that exiting sometimes. Low population and whole guilds on vent make you think the world is empty. ((god how i hate vent. Such a community killer)) Its hard to finish group quests.

Im glad your are enjoying the game Vaedur, i for one had enough at 50.
Once i finished leveling my necromancer to 50, which was about 2 months ago, i had enough. I had all the top gear (all i could do was wait on the tier 5 crafters to craft me more heroics, just a waiting game), i had a thestran caravel (the big boats you may see), shadowhound mount (massive crazy long quest), 2 floor house (waste of gold imo) and was in the number 1 top raiding guild, had all the drops (including over 3/4 of the spell drops), so nothing to do there.
I admit, the leveling from 1-40 was sweet, i really enjoyed it. I loved 40-50 because i found a nice quest in the swamps which sends you out to collect pearls.. they drop 1 in every 10 kills on average, 100 pearls would easily level you, so i went from 45-49 in 1 night.
To be honest, i thought i finally found something to replace EQ, unfortunatly, for me, i was wrong.
Players were leaving, plans for the game were... what plans?? (when i used to play)... servers were empty considering the size of the world, even with the upcoming server merges that are now comfirmed, the size of the world will stil be too big for the number of players. (i just hope they plan to make this game number 1, it still can be!, but they will have to act fast, 2008 is near and so is a sack full of new games)
Anywayz, from the sounds of it your just starting out "level 5". You got awhile before you start to see what i saw.
Goodluck to you anyway.
PS: Create a necro, we all have a little evil in our blood
Playing: Archlord
Played: EQ1//EQ2//WoW//GW//L2//GB//RS//LoTRO//VG
Waiting For: **WAR**
Vaedur, I play eq 2 too but like Vanguard more.
Boycott EA Games. RIP Sim City.
OMG you leveled 2 toons to level 5!
Yes your opinion matters you know everything!
LOL, please this is like reading these forums 1 day after release whe the fanbois got the game in their hands for the first time and posted HATERS WERE WRONG.
lmao please dont do any reviews until you are at least in the mid levels.
Thanks for posting your experience...particularly since it was a good one.
I have spent over 1000 hours in game ...playing since before launch and am completely hooked !
Vanguard does indeed get better with age and I look forward to the many years of great adventures I have no doubt I will experience in the world of Telon.
The haters have done a good job of spreading lies and exagerations .....causing many to hesitate trying this game out. That's ok though. Soon as a free trial comes out I expect to see a dramatic increase in numbers. By this time next year I predict an increasing number of threads complaining about over crowded servers !
Good to see your having fun
Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.
Good to see your having fun err yeah.. i have issues getting across thoughts.. lol
What i was trying to say that their are crafters who build ships and houses which is neat. .. and people say things like (well a blacksmith can help build houses w/ i-beams, but noone can make them yet..) I think that's awesome that crafting will cause the game to evolve or and it's not everyone at max level .. crafting is super deep..
As for an update a few asked, i have a new post it's something like VG, SONY, and a noob (me) or something like that .. my updated take.. next post after that i will put in some of my "balanced" screenshots, game looks nice.. my class is rogue, but i wish my subclass could be photog.. lol
I guess there could still be overcrowding on the three servers that exist in the US.

Sarcasim...how orgininal
Those games are gonna have their fair share of troubles as well.
I think this mmorpg arena is big enough for all those games. I welcome them all.....competition promotes inovative business models, goods and services. Online gaming is booming.....it's huge business and just now starting to come into it's own. There will be enough people playing to support mass market games as well as niche market games. Include the fact that operations costs and cost of equipment is dropping quickly and the sky is the limit.
Last year they were talking about how BC, Vanguard and Lotro will be released and their effect on existing games. The year before that it was WoW, Lin2 and GW that was going to kill subscription numbers for the rest. ...see a trend here? Every single one of those games are still going....granted Horizons is limping along just barely ( man..i cant believe that game is still going..lol..it just won't die)
anyways...I hope all those games do well cause in the end...it will only help us all by encourage more developers to develope and publish games increasing the chances of discovering new and interesting ways to save the world on a daily basis.

The thing is though, all of those games you just mentioned are more successful than Vanguard. Lotro, Lineage 2, Guild Wars...and Burning Crusade pulled in millions.
That was my main point. I wasn't putting down Vanguard, I was putting down it's ability to have overcrowded servers. It's highly unlikely for a game of it's kind.
Age of Conan has a major bonus in that it will pull in a slew of new-to-genre console gamers.
I guess there could still be overcrowding on the three servers that exist in the US.
Warhammer is a WoW replacement, Age of Conan is PvP (if you like PVP you will go there) I am a PvE person myself, and honest haven't researched Tabula Rasa
I do not see these affecting VG they may actually help VG but that is just a guess.
A MMO is like life. It is something to cherish and enjoy upon in it journey. So why race to the end of it. In life at the end you die.
I guess there could still be overcrowding on the three servers that exist in the US.
By this time next year I'll be 31 and most likely have tried every one of those games.
What 3 servers are you talking about? They will cut down to 4 or 5; about average for most of the MMO's on the market.
Wish Darkfall would release.

Servers
There will be 2 US PVE, 1 EU PVE, and 1 US PVP server.
Thunderaxe, Woefeather, and Gulgrethor would merge into server A PVE
Targonor, Hilsbury, and Shidreth would merge into sever B PVE
Tharridon, Varking, and Frengrot would merge into sever C PVP FFA
Gelenia and Infineum would merge into server D EU PVE
For Florendyl we will be soliciting feedback via a poll and discussion as to whether or not the players think it should be merged.
That's 3 US servers...
2 PVE, 1 PVP

Ill have what you are smokingBy this time next year 90% of your player base will be in Conan, WoW or Warhammer
I just can't stand games where you have to solely rely on grouping to advance. Same thing that turned me off from FFXI.
The haters on these forums are so predictable. These people were the same who were hyping this game like crazy before it was released, also the same people who were hyping the hell out of dark and light, horizons, and you name whatever else MMO flop that pops into your brain.
I think the people that are having the most fun in MMOs is the people that don't let hype get to them. I can't think of one MMO ever that has had everything (or even close to it) that was promised in development actually come at launch of the game. This is sounding like gibberish to even me right now so I guess what I'm trying to say in a nutshell is stop getting your hopes so high for games that aren't even released yet (or anything else for that matter... iPhone anybody? ).
I've never taken more than a few passing glances at a game in development, and I've yet to be to terribly disappointed in any as a result. In fact, I really, truly enjoy VG. The only thing keeping me away is lack of time to play and lack of players on the servers. But you can bet your ass once the mergers roll around I'll be hopping right back in. And once SOE gets the rest of the major bugs worked out, you can bet there will be a free trial, and VG will rise again just like EQ2 did. All I'm seeing from you assholes is negative bullshit as you go on to hype the 'next big thing' thats still in development. And I know damn well who the first people to bitch about those games are.
Grow up...
Blah blah blah....you obviously don't get it. A lot of people had high hopes for VG and expected it to deliver some sort of quality and it failed and people have every right to be disappointed and complain about it. You're the one that actually needs to grow up SOE fanboi. Everyone expects a game not to deliver everything promised on release but there is a reasonable expectation such as reasonable server stability, complete animations, a stable game that doesn't crash every 2 seconds. Sorry to burst your bubble there but EQ2 never rose from mediocre and you're delusional if you think SOE is going to do anything to improve VG. Anything SOE touches gets destroyed. VG will be no different because SOE doesn't plan on doing a thing to VG to change it to make it better other than maybe stabilize it. SOE doesn't care what players think.
Wait until you lag right off of your ship and drown.
I'm glad your having fun, but you might want to get a bit higher before you gush too much.
