Still clicking on the ads for games that interest me just empowers the site to continue what it is doing and doesn't send the message I want heard. If they make up any lost revenue through gold sales, then the market has spoken and I lose. If not maybe they change their stance or nonstance as they would like to say. It's a pretty basic concept really. Sorry you don't like it, but it is one of the most effective tools a consumer has.
Comparing what a player does to get ahead and what gold sites do isn't a far comparison though. Worlds of difference. Read up on it if you care to get more information, this isn't the thread to debate it in.
None of this has anything to do with gold sales. It could be porn, it could be political, the ads themselves could be anything. If you simply do not click those you do not like, and trust your peers to have the same common sense, they will go away.

Why can't you grasp the idea that there is a problem with this type of advertisement on this website? This is like seeing a Budweiser ad on the MADD website, it makes very little sense and it seems that people find it to be unethical. MMORPG.com's response was, who cares. All he's doing is communicating to them how he, as a community member, feels about this. Nitpicking his words won't change anyone's mind.
If their revenue starts to shrink in response to advertising gold sales then the market is telling them to stop. If it increases, because people like yourself continue to fund them while they also gain market share with gold sale ads, then the market is saying it is ok and maybe they increase the gold sale ads.
Either way I think I have a firm grasp of the situation.

You do realize that advertisers expect a return on their investment here. Just clicking a link does not support this site if no one purchases the products. That is the most basic concept of advertising you are glossing over as advertising money doesn't just magically apear from nowhere. In no way am I obligated to generate income for this site, especially when I disagree with its methods. See! But when you attempt to convince the Admin to NOT ACCEPT an advertiser, you are DENYING them that same right.

We have been here before, but again I will state: We do not refuse gold-selling ads...it is not our company policy and I don't see why it ever would be. This is a ultra-small ad campaign, like less than 1% of sales this month, so no - we don't need the revenue per-se. Our stance on gold selling is not to have a stance. What these companies are doing is not illegal, therefore we allow the advertising (although we surcharge them pretty hard due to our staff having to combat the flames like I am doing this very moment).
Just because *you* are against gold-selling does not mean that everyone else is. My personal stance is that I despise gold sellers, I would never use these services myself - but I cannot decide to allow/dissalow advertisers based on my personal opinions...this would be like denying Hillary Clinton ad space here because I disslike her. When publishers take "stances" on things - I think they walk the fine line of eithics myself. This is not the New York Post or Fox News...I will not side with anyone on this.
There was a voluntary poll taken on a thread once that showed 2-1 against accepting these type of ads. You were asked to create a log in poll to force everyone to vote on the issue once and for all , either for or against, no middle ground choice option.
Why are you afraid to abide by the majority decision? Could it be you would be proven wrong, that the majority don't want it?

Just because a leader understands the fears, the drives, and the motivations of his followers, never assume that leader is lesser because they are intelligent enough to interpret these factors and formulate the proper path, if it diverges from the opinion of the masses... the leader that will diverge after weighing all the facts is NOT lesser... he is in fact, exceptionally brave.
The Admin saw the votes... and was brave enough to take another path anyway.

Well isn't choosing this type of ad over another for the sake a of more cash kind of at odds with this belief? So shouldn't you be agreeing that they should ethically stick to thier guns? We have a vision, lets stick too it right.

How much do you think people are willing to pay per click for MMORPG related links? .02-.10. Do the Math.
What do you think people are willing to pay to sign up (CPA) for free MMORPG's? Nothing.
How many games are sold through affiliate links? Not many, direct download and retail own because people want to install and play now.
Long story short the MMORPG niche is still in it's infancy as far as a content driven site is concerned. I am confident that as the market grows and tightens we will see a lot of these things change....they haven't changed yet so quit crying about how these guys are able to pay the people that spend all day getting you guys content.
