Not clicking on a game manufacturers advertisement because it doesn't interest me is much different than ignoring ads that promote an aspect that I consider hurting the industry. Especially from a site that generates the lions share of its revenue from MMO makers.
Still clicking on the ads for games that interest me just empowers the site to continue what it is doing and doesn't send the message I want heard. If they make up any lost revenue through gold sales, then the market has spoken and I lose. If not maybe they change their stance or nonstance as they would like to say. It's a pretty basic concept really. Sorry you don't like it, but it is one of the most effective tools a consumer has.
Comparing what a player does to get ahead and what gold sites do isn't a far comparison though. Worlds of difference. Read up on it if you care to get more information, this isn't the thread to debate it in.

Um.... and you do not want to empower the site to continue... providing us with a place to... voice our opinions and communicate? Because not clicking the ads you do like is saying you do not support the site.
None of this has anything to do with gold sales. It could be porn, it could be political, the ads themselves could be anything. If you simply do not click those you do not like, and trust your peers to have the same common sense, they will go away.

Why is that so hard for you to grasp?
Why can't you grasp the idea that there is a problem with this type of advertisement on this website? This is like seeing a Budweiser ad on the MADD website, it makes very little sense and it seems that people find it to be unethical. MMORPG.com's response was, who cares. All he's doing is communicating to them how he, as a community member, feels about this. Nitpicking his words won't change anyone's mind.
You seem to be operating under the impression that if revenues start to dip because enough people don't support the site due to objections to gold sites then MMORPG has no other options than to sit idly by and go out of business. It's hard to communicate with such extremes of black and white.
If their revenue starts to shrink in response to advertising gold sales then the market is telling them to stop. If it increases, because people like yourself continue to fund them while they also gain market share with gold sale ads, then the market is saying it is ok and maybe they increase the gold sale ads.
Either way I think I have a firm grasp of the situation.
I never said a friggin word about you spending money.
I said leave the admin alone... click the banners to see the good stuff... ignore the bad stuff...
You are as brainless as a beer can.
Seriously.
A very empty beer can.
You might do well to step back, take a deep breath and look at things from another view. Maybe stop tossing insults around wouldn't be a bad start either.
You do realize that advertisers expect a return on their investment here. Just clicking a link does not support this site if no one purchases the products. That is the most basic concept of advertising you are glossing over as advertising money doesn't just magically apear from nowhere. Sure I put a sarcastic fine point on it, but you are getting pretty saucy so I felt justified. Shame on me, two wrongs don't make a right.
You are free to try you approach of ignoring something you don't like and hoping it goes away on its own, just as I am free to try my approach. In no way am I obligated to generate income for this site, especially when I disagree with its methods. See! Each of us exercising our freedoms in our own ways without taking anyones freedom away, like you suggest I do.

Then exercise your freedoms, PLEASE.
But when you attempt to convince the Admin to NOT ACCEPT an advertiser, you are DENYING them that same right.
Seriously.... can you just try to think? Just once? In your entire life?
That is the whole point of consumer driven market, please go read up on some basic economics and leave your emotional baggage at the door. I am not denying anyone anything. This site can run whatever it wants and never once needs my permission. Seriously stop putting these off the wall spins on a basic principle of commerce. I'm a tad tired of you painting me as some anger crazed freedom restricting madman who is incapable of free thinking so that you can feel justified about your views.
Can you please try to discuss something without the juvenile insults for once?
I'm quite sure that the whole point of the complaint against these advertisements is due to the fact that certain people do not like the "ethics" involved in doing business with these companies. The concerns of this website are keeping afloat, and the off-chance of profit. I do not know how many people here click the advertisements when there are not "gold seller" ads, nor do I know the effect of a virtual embargo on clicking advertisements within this site due to the appearance of ads that may actually generate advertising revenue. If people do not click the advertisements, they will not continue to advertise here. If you want to gift funds to MMORPG.COM and take on the sole responsibility of their funding and welfare, go ahead. Until you are willing to do so, do not distract others from helping MMORPG.COM generate some means of income. You yourself will be destroying this site, no-one else.
Come on MMORPG, what's with the add for the gold and powerleveling site? I haven't seen one of them here for quite some time. I have to say, I'm rather disapointed seeing an add RIGHT next to your site name. The site can't be that hard up for revenue that you have to sell add space to a copany that exploits MMO's. VERY disapointed.
We have been here before, but again I will state: We do not refuse gold-selling ads...it is not our company policy and I don't see why it ever would be. This is a ultra-small ad campaign, like less than 1% of sales this month, so no - we don't need the revenue per-se. Our stance on gold selling is not to have a stance. What these companies are doing is not illegal, therefore we allow the advertising (although we surcharge them pretty hard due to our staff having to combat the flames like I am doing this very moment).
Just because *you* are against gold-selling does not mean that everyone else is. My personal stance is that I despise gold sellers, I would never use these services myself - but I cannot decide to allow/dissalow advertisers based on my personal opinions...this would be like denying Hillary Clinton ad space here because I disslike her. When publishers take "stances" on things - I think they walk the fine line of eithics myself. This is not the New York Post or Fox News...I will not side with anyone on this.
There was a voluntary poll taken on a thread once that showed 2-1 against accepting these type of ads. You were asked to create a log in poll to force everyone to vote on the issue once and for all , either for or against, no middle ground choice option.
Why are you afraid to abide by the majority decision? Could it be you would be proven wrong, that the majority don't want it?
*checks the site for a "We Are a Democracy" logo.*
*doesn't find one*
Well... that answers that once and for all.
Just because a leader understands the fears, the drives, and the motivations of his followers, never assume that leader is lesser because they are intelligent enough to interpret these factors and formulate the proper path, if it diverges from the opinion of the masses... the leader that will diverge after weighing all the facts is NOT lesser... he is in fact, exceptionally brave.
The Admin saw the votes... and was brave enough to take another path anyway.
Maybe they understand more than people give them credit for?

Exactly, but I don't think we'll see a cogent response from him ever.

There are no leaders and followers, there is a busniess and it's cusomters. The customers are voicing their displeasure with the company policy. Nothing more. You fail at trolling.
In anohter thread you wrote "Until the companies form the BACKBONE to create a vision, and STICK to that vision, and give us, the gamers, a real story, and a living world that we can relate to, and feel like we can impact... well... every single game is going to feel exactly the same."
Well isn't choosing this type of ad over another for the sake a of more cash kind of at odds with this belief? So shouldn't you be agreeing that they should ethically stick to thier guns? We have a vision, lets stick too it right.
Do you guys have any idea how hard it is to make any money at all in the MMORPG content genre?
How much do you think people are willing to pay per click for MMORPG related links? .02-.10. Do the Math.
What do you think people are willing to pay to sign up (CPA) for free MMORPG's? Nothing.
How many games are sold through affiliate links? Not many, direct download and retail own because people want to install and play now.
Long story short the MMORPG niche is still in it's infancy as far as a content driven site is concerned. I am confident that as the market grows and tightens we will see a lot of these things change....they haven't changed yet so quit crying about how these guys are able to pay the people that spend all day getting you guys content.

You want to force your opinion into fact.
If MADD's website took money from Budweiser, I would not have issue with it.
However, I am done trying to talk sense into you crazies.
Take your own freedoms away. Just leave mine alone.

Since the admin himself explained the ads there is nothing left to discuss; thread locked.
