Adults tend to feel that age comes with wisdom, however, in many cases that is false. What we see is a need to be superior, a need to hold power before that power is taken away. That is were most of these comments stem from. If time has told us one thing it is that those who are older tend to be less amiable to different views.
Really I don't think age should be an issue. If you feel uncomfortable playing with those you call "l33t" then don't do so. The world of EQ2 will be large enough to set yourself apart from those individuals. I don't like them as much as probably the next person, however, I'm am not going to ridicule them for how they are. That is plain silly.
You're right the specs for the game may deter some of those who are not able to upgrade. I wouldn't count them all out. Really, though, its not the 18 year or younger crowd you should worry about. They normally stick to FPS or other games that are free. We all well know that it is those 21 + that play MMO's. So I think that this argument is supported only on the fact that you played a free game and came face to face with a "l33t". A pay to play game is radically different. (Especially one so hardware demanding).
Gosh, I guess I should have just reworded my WHOLE first post. I guess when I responded to Zide56's reply, I thought I had cleared it up a bit. I'm not saying that EVERY younger person is this snotty lil punk. I thought I had explained that pretty clearly. What I'm saying is, THAT particular group of younger people, the ones that every single one of you would label as a snotty lil punk.
Seriously guys, me using age as the main factor isn't really THAT odd is it? I mean sure I could have reworded it and said the immature players. But what do you say to someone who is acting immature? You tell them to act their age right? That's what I based my post on, I learned that some of you were offended by it, I replied and made a correction and aimed my post at the IMMATURE young kids and even the immature older players.
I've been playing MMO's since the beta days of UO. I've played em all and have run into immature younger players, immature older players, mature younger players, mature older players. This post was based on MY experiences. I don't know any of you young people who were offended by this, so obviously this isn't directed at you. You know your own maturity level... This post was simply directed towards any of the immature people. Hence the title, "Something for us mature players to think about..." If you're mature, then you don't fall into the catagory of immature do you? If you're young and you're mature, then you're not a snotty lil punk and you know it. But if you feel so offended by this age issue, even tho you ARE mature, then I'm sorry if I've made myself so unclear.
I just wanted to merely state that I feel that the majority of players who will come to EQ2 will be a more mature crowd. With no PvP, I know the PvP crowd will go to WoW or some other game. My experience with the PvP crowd (Lineage II in particular) is that they're pretty immature and like to make an unpleasant playing experience for others. Take this statement as you will, but it's just my experience and it may be different from your experiences, but I'm not you so I don't know.
And as for tu_uilwen attacking my maturity level, c'mon. I'm not attacking 16 year olds, I'm not attacking anyone OTHER than the immature "l33t d3wdz". Age just came up because that is how most of society looks at maturity level. As I said earlier, when someone is acting immature, you tell them to act their age. I'm sorry if this offends you, but none of this statement SHOULD offend you, well unless you're trying to actually protect this immature "l33d d3wdz" crowd... and to that I would have NO idea why you would want to be associated with this crowd. Just because some of them are your peers, doesn't mean you should want to be in ANY way linked to them if you don't like them.
As for me being a snotty lil punk when I was younger, I'm sure I had my moments, but for the most part, yeah I was a pretty good kid. I was a nerd, BIG TIME I mostly played in my bedroom, did alot of art because I wanted to draw comic books, played SNES and NES, mostly kept to myself. So yeah, take it as BS if you want, but you're mature, you know how you act at your age, if you can actu mature at that age, I'm sure others could have been good kids too
I guess in closing I'll just say I'm sorry to all of you who took this post WAAAAY to seriously. They were obviously people who understood what I was getting at on the basic level. The point being that I hope the immature "l33t d3wdz" crowd will migrate more towards some other game. I don't mind silly people, I don't mind running into the occasional jerk, they make for a fun playing experience. I just really hate the "l33t d3wdz" who spam garbage and curse nonstop and come up with perverse names. Is it so much to hope that we don't get that kind of crowd in a game we want to play so badly? I dunno, I guess I just thought this would be a fun topic for the MATURE players, maybe we MATURE players could get to know each other.
Oh well, not much else I can say I guess. You will take the post as seriously as you want, take it the wrong way if you want, take it as a personal attack on you, or take it as a topic that is simply targeted towards mature players and the immature "l33d d3wdz".
