I was thinking that too.. I was one of the original public beta testers and couldn't handle playing that forsaken game for more then 30 minutes before wanting to jump off a cliff.. I was thinking mid 5.. or low 6's at best..
i have yet to play this game, and ive seen soooooo many people say the game horrible, but how what makes it horrible the gameplay, storyline ....someone clear this up for me.

A number of things really mate.
I think il start with the performance... well, what can i say really lol... its like a private server, only other way i can describe it is AWFUL.
Hundreds of bugs. Broken quests, gimped classes, falling through the world, bugged crafting, bugged guild charters, bugged this, bugged that... everything is just bugged.
It is deffinatly worth a try... maybe even more so now that the bugs and performance is APPARENTLY being fixed more often.
IMO, if they dont sort this game out soon, its doomed.
2008 is near, too many different type of big mmos are being released, it doesnt look good for Vanguard.
You know who cares what these guys think. If you have fun playing it then it matters what not. I think people who go around to various game forums bashing other games is pretty lame and childish. There are a lot of people who like vg, if you don't, who cares. I didn't like lotro online that much but i didnt get bashing it in the forums.
Sorry your $500 pc couldnt run it on low graphics.
Lol sorry mate, but i have $3000 worth of machine (Alien) and this game still sucks.
2 level 50s, equiped in 4-5 45+ heroics, caravel ship, 2 floor house, shadowhound... etc...etc... so dont go on to say i havent given it a try.
Tried to love this game, but its poor, very poor.
yea, it took you a long time to figure out it sucks,...TWO maxed out toons? hopefully it doesn't take you that long to realize the stove is hot when your hand it on it. hope you didn't bite your tongue jumping on the "I hate Vanguard" bandwagon.
Sorry, but if it sucked that badly, you couldn't have brought yourself to max out one toon, much less the 2 you say you rolled. lol man, who are you kidding?

Well Vanguard requires a very powerful computer to play on full settings, so alot of people who have the money went out and bought a new one that will run Vanguard with no problems. Unfortunatly, it isint our computers in this case.

Lol, its not exactly hard to level toons in this game mate.

Well some of us don't live in our mommy's and daddy's basement. Some of us have nice jobs with lots of disposable income. I guess that just makes to much sense right? Sounds way to logical to be true right?
Games I've played/tried out:WAR, LOTRO, Tabula Rasa, AoC, EQ1, EQ2, WoW, Vangaurd, FFXI, D&DO, Lineage 2, Saga Of Ryzom, EvE Online, DAoC, Guild Wars,Star Wars Galaxies, Hell Gate London, Auto Assault, Grando Espada ( AKA SoTNW ), Archlord, CoV/H, Star Trek Online, APB, Champions Online, FFXIV, Rift Online, GW2.
i have yet to play this game, and ive seen soooooo many people say the game horrible, but how what makes it horrible the gameplay, storyline ....someone clear this up for me.
There's an infinity threads on it already, but I'll give you a summary:
- Performance (apparently its improved over some months, but for many it obviously stilll runs like a piece of crap. My computer could somehow handle it when I played ( barely), but it was still sluggish as hell in certain places.)
- Crappy quests (you'll never find more unimaginative and dull quests, trust me on this one. Every MMO has copious amounts of kill x no. of creature and fed-ex quests, but in this game it is really badly presented, badly written and in dire need of some creativity. It's made worse by no real storyline to motivate you to keep going.)
- No real storyline (apparently you have to wait till 20 something to get some bits of "amazing" story. I played till level 12 and kept wondering why I kept playing at that point. I played a druid and that class has some cool abilities but gawd where was the fun??? The vast majority of sane person ain't gonna slog through 20 levels of dullness to get to it)
- Boring Diplomacy system (its card-based, and its the most boring card game you'll probably ever play. Apparently there's some good lore through this, but no thanks this is badly done.)
- Tedius and overly complex crafting system (when you first try it you'll probably feel overwhemled, maybe even start to like it but fall asleep quick because its just way over the top and sucked of all fun factor. The amount of little stupid steps you have to go through to complete the most basic components of an items...ugh. You'll spend all your time repeating this kind of thing over and over again completing work orders. It's dull, very dull.)
- A World that lacks charm (Vanguard's world lacks character and charm, some landscapes are nice but overall badly put together. I won't go into graphics too much, cause I guess that is a matter of opinion, but if you have even basic artistic flair you can pin-point many things wrong with the environment especially the water. You don't have problems with this in a game like WoW, because alot of thought was put into its level design and you can really see it. (and I refer to WoW because it has many genuwinly good points love it or hate it.)
- Stupid looking character models (all the models feel the same, like a rambo doll with different heads slapped on. Even the animal races have this problem. They look goofy and each race lacks individuality in their animations.)
- Worst "voice acting" in history. (This isn't as important, but its notable. Honestly I could get my family together and we could make better voice acting then this, it is plain TERRIBLE. Its like the devs got a bunch of half-drunk friends and Jar-Jar Binks into a garage to quickly put in some "voice acting."
- Combat system (its the same as every other MMO out there, good or bad whatever way you look at it. I had some fun with my rogue, but that fun died out pretty quick at level 12 (it seemed to be that around that level I keep getting bored) because the rest of the game is so bad.)
The only thing that's actually good about this game is the soundtrack, some catchy tunes in there.
Try the trial of course, and make your own decision, but that's the honest truth with the game at the moment.
i have yet to play this game, and ive seen soooooo many people say the game horrible, but how what makes it horrible the gameplay, storyline ....someone clear this up for me.

- Performance (apparently its improved over some months, but for many it obviously stilll runs like a piece of crap. My computer could somehow handle it when I played ( barely), but it was still sluggish as hell in certain places.)
Most of the people that think the game runs like "a piece of crap" are going to think it runs like a hog a year from now if they are playing on the same PC. Some people have some legitamate issues, and this is usually some kind of compatability thing. Software and hardware are a tricky things. Nividia had/ has a part to blame with poor drivers on the 8k series of cards, Vista is an issue for many people, not just people playing VG.
The game has some issues with needing to be optimized. Most of the posts you see around here aren't a very fair view of exactly how it's going to run for anyone. The settings you run the game at compared to what your PC is packing is important, and very few people are clear on what thier expectations are. If you're getting 20 fps in an MMO you are doing god for the average gamer. To many people here want 60+ fps, that's not typical. Getting 20 fps isn't hard to do in VG and if you have a PCI-E set up with a decent processor, then you're good. Chunking will get fixed eventually and VG isn't the first game to suffer from a chunk issue.
The "crappy quests" are your typical MMO flair. Almost. Kojan is a great starting experience. One of the best around. There is a story explained to you as you go, and it persists throught the entire area, not just the first few levels. If you leave Kojan you'll find you typical MMO style quests in other areas, some with small stories, other with larger stories. Every dungeon area I've explored has had a story associated with it. Some of the stories I found OK, others I found to be rather generic. My personal favorite is the guy on the Deebs Plataue bridge that pays you to jump off. In all, liking or disliking the quests is going to be a personal thing.
- No real storyline (apparently you have to wait till 20 something to get some bits of "amazing" story. I played till level 12 and kept wondering why I kept playing at that point. I played a druid and that class has some cool abilities but gawd where was the fun??? The vast majority of sane person ain't gonna slog through 20 levels of dullness to get to it)
What MMO has a "real storyline"? It's a persistant world, not a single player game. The storylines are no dif. in VG then most any other fantasy based game. For me that's the problem with the storlines. I've read them all before. They are there though.
- Boring Diplomacy system (its card-based, and its the most boring card game you'll probably ever play. Apparently there's some good lore through this, but no thanks this is badly done.)
This is content you wont find in another MMO.
Tedius yes, complex no. This is crafting. Is there a game that has a crafting system, a true crafting system, that the vast magority of the players find fun enough to invest enough time to fully advance in it? Crafting that matters even? Most of the crafter types I've played with over the years would like nothing more then to have an importance in an MMO, let alone be given something that is fun. Fun by the way is rather personall. I don't find it fun to craft, but some do.
I love this. I consider myself an artist, with considerably more then just basic artistic flair. The things I can pin-point in the game have nothing to do with art. Honestly, the water isn't that big of a deal, and considering the plans for the futur the water is fine. They need to be populated more then anything, and that is down the road a bit. The world is incredible in VG. One of my personal favorites. Each area feels like it looks and are varied. The world designers did a great job I think. Not that it means a hoot, but yeah, that's my artisic opinion.
- Stupid looking character models (all the models feel the same, like a rambo doll with different heads slapped on. Even the animal races have this problem. They look goofy and each race lacks individuality in their animations.)
Character models are actually highly detailed, and the things they will be able to do with them should be interesting with EmotionFX. It'll be interesting to see what the guys in charge of animations do.
There's voice acting in VG? Those goofy little sounds the NPC make when you click on them isn't voice acting. There is no voice acting in this game that I've seen. EQ2 has voice acting. BTW, wow doesn't have voice acting either.
- Combat system (its the same as every other MMO out there, good or bad whatever way you look at it. I had some fun with my rogue, but that fun died out pretty quick at level 12 (it seemed to be that around that level when I got bored.) because the rest of the game is so bad.)
I don't understand. If you only got to 12, how do you know that the rest of the game is bad?
The only thing that's actually good about this game is the soundtrack, some catchy tunes in there.
Try the trial of course, and make your own decision, but that's the honest truth with the game at the moment.
NO, that's your opinion of the game. It's far dif. then the honest truth. Only in the context that you push it like fact. It's just your opinion.
Basic artistic flair. That really made me chuckle. Good one.
You know who cares what these guys think. If you have fun playing it then it matters what not. I think people who go around to various game forums bashing other games is pretty lame and childish. There are a lot of people who like vg, if you don't, who cares. I didn't like lotro online that much but i didnt get bashing it in the forums.
Enjoyment is what matters.
However, the important point is that the 7.9 is a user rating. User ratings are only paritally based in reality on here. It is widely known fanbois of various games rate their current game at all 10 and all the other competitors at all 0s...and make false accounts to repeat the stupidity. Getting an actual average score of what the average person on here thinks is impossible with all that crap going on.
i have yet to play this game, and ive seen soooooo many people say the game horrible, but how what makes it horrible the gameplay, storyline ....someone clear this up for me.

I should clear things up I wasn't clear enough I guess. For the graphics thing like I said it boils down to opinion so if you think its awesome good for you. Looks like shit personally, and alot of other people agree too. There was even an entire thread dedicated to Vanguard's crappy water with very good points. As for "I only got to 12, so how do I know the rest of the game is bad" I meant as in all the points I had already listed, not the content I hadn't seen. I only got to level 12, sure, but that should be more then enough to warrent a good impression of the game. Apparently its not, but that's Vanguard's fault for making a bad first impression as well as its shitty launch, not mine.
Anyway we can rant all day about who's opinion and who's not, but the state of Vanguard's population speaks the loudest.
Withing months of its launch, the company that developed Vanguard went out of business with massive condemnation on the lead designer who will now spend the rest of his programming days carrying on his conscience how he cost so many people their jobs.
If Vanguard doesn't register as a failure to you, what exactly does? I mean, how hard does a game have to fall and before we all can come together and admit that it is a failure?

To be fair, Sigil didn't go "out of business" within months of it's launch. Their assets were acquired by SOE. What happened next wasn't pretty, but it was hardly Sigil's fault.
The game shipped before it was ready. It can't even run on many PCs. It's just not done yet. Maybe we'll get a revamp and re-release.
Sorry your $500 pc couldnt run it on low graphics.
Hahaha
Proof once more that it really is the Vangboi urr guard community that makes ya want to play the game. Good thing I got these dual 8800 sl's and the rest of my pc for 500.
Hehe seriously Serno go back to patting yourself on the back for being hardcore enough to spends hours each day sitting in the same spot grinding out easy greens and blues. (My Hero! )

Waiting For: **WAR**
Lol sorry mate, but i have $3000 worth of machine (Alien) and this game still sucks.
2 level 50s, equiped in 4-5 45+ heroics, caravel ship, 2 floor house, shadowhound... etc...etc... so dont go on to say i havent given it a try.
Tried to love this game, but its poor, very poor.
I love it how everyone on here has a 3-5k gaming computer. Alienware sucks too, overpriced.
Game(s) I Am Currently Playing:
GW2 (+LoL and BF3)

Good one.
Wish Darkfall would release.
Boycott EA Games. RIP Sim City.
EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

If Vanguard doesn't register as a failure to you, what exactly does? I mean, how hard does a game have to fall and before we all can come together and admit that it is a failure?
Raven
The game shipped before it was ready. It can't even run on many PCs. It's just not done yet. Maybe we'll get a revamp and re-release.
(My Hero! )
