The funny thing of all this:
Main reason: Most people supporting this game has absolutely no bigger clue than me about WAR online, yet they LOVE it and defend it because its around Warhammer Universe concept.
Last reason: This game is going to be populated by freaking nerds kiddies whinning all over because they dind't win the scenario and those mature people will be screwed. EA = rated T for kids.

Your sage-like foresight leaves me speechless and it is very humble of you to claim what you do.  I bow down to you, you certainly must also have the key to the universe?

Darkfall seeks your gaming knowledge, it needs your divine touch to take it from vaporware to an actual finished product.  Being godlike as you are and holding all of this knowledge, you must be a maven of the gaming industry and a key player/insider?

On a side note, what exactly is "real pvp"? Player vs. Player doesn't nessecarily mean total looting.  I am a Pre-UOR vet and loved full loot, and I also feel that consequence makes games more exciting, but as a business trying to make money they cannot do this or they will not pull in the numbers they want.  We have to remember that this is a business first, not a bunch of gamers creating a gmae that they want to play soley for their own selfish reasons.  To create a good game you need investors, to make investors happy you have to bring in revenue post release, and to bring that revenue in you have to offer something to MMORPG gaming community as a whole, not to a handfull of people like you and I who want all-out-pvp.

Just what I said, no real PvP. Real PvP means everybody is friend untill someone breaks the Rules and becomes pirate/Pk/outlaw/thief whatever the fuck. And for a kill there must be reward/penalty a.k.a real consecuences, loosing your stuff/parts of your inventory or whatever.
This game has RvR, that means We against You. We die, doesn't matter we try it again another day.

By one kill order wins the SCENARIO (). There is not even role, its a FPS concept brought to an intended MMORPG game.

ah right, you're one of those.

i prefer fun to "consequences", i have a job, i play games for fun, WAR looks fun, therefore i will play WAR.

seriously, the darkfall beta is great, you should try to get in, looks just like your cup of tea.

I confess, my reasons for being excited (well, looking forward to might be more  accurate) is pretty simple.  I enjoyed DAOC, was my all time favorite game, have yet to find a game to replace it and am hoping WAR online will be the one.  If not, I'll keep looking....

So, I would like to know what exactly is revving you up to play WAR?

Are you a long time offline WAR player, or possibly you see something which I have missed that is new and exciting.

Would like to see your point of view.

If you don't get it then your not going to get it.

Most people come here spouting "OMG the graphics suck!" but never back that up with anything. They might think that the ART STYLE sucks but the graphics are great for an mmo. IMO for the universe/ip that is meant to be represented (Warhammer) by the artstyle are perfect. They armor looks like armor and it looks like it is worn, not painted on. The cities are detailed and large and look like cities not just a bunch of huts put together. The outposts look like they have been through some battles, certain things look like they were pieced together with whatever the faction could muster, thus adding to the atmosphere. The art style represents what Warhammer is imo and changing that would make it less of a game.

If you really want to talk about nothing being new and exciting thats fine. One could argue that ALL games coming out aren't new and exciting. All games have a player controlled object and are supposed to accomplish a goal. All games follow that so basically all games are the same. Thusly playing any game is the same thing and you shouldn't play games anymore. Things don't have to be New or Innovative to be fun. WoW brought nothing new nor nothing innovative to the genre and yet it was a big success.

WAR is going to be a PvP game. You can only do so much with PvP because it always comes down to players killing other players. You can give them FPS type controls but in the end it is still push a button. If you try and pack to much "new" into a game it becomes a burden on players rather than being fun. WAR is looking to make a basic, fun, PvP game and do it as good as possible. I will take a 110% done right PvP mmo over a 50% done right Innovative mmo.

Bottom line is your looking for a game that reinvents the wheel and you can't do it. You can add in things like player cities, FPS style, or "skill" based pvp but it all depends on what your trying to accomplish and who you are trying to bring in. AoC can do player cities because they made the game towards that, WAR has main Realm cities which goes for RvR. If you had player cities in WAR it wouldn't be WAR or RvR anymore.

Look at Counter Strike. Thousands upon thousands still play both 1.6 and Source. It has basic guns, basic maps, and basic FPS play. Why do people still play it? It is fun. Lots of people know that DAoC had the funnest and best balanced PvP so they look forward to an mmo put out by the same company because it will be fun. So far Mythic hasn't gone back on anything they have claimed about WAR yet so we all hope they go to the 110% mark and make a BASIC FUN PVP GAME. I don't want tons of bells and whistles, I want to cast spells and smash heads. I don't want to worry about twich based or ping related issues. I don't want to grind tons of money or reputation. I don't want to spend 8 hours dying on the same boss. I just want to log in and pound the hell out of the enemy. WAR accomplishes that goal.

WAR is the only game worth mentioning in the coming months.

..ok, maybe AoC or something .. maybe Darkfall.. but thats pushing it. If you loved DAOC, then you'll love WAR. Those who didn't, won't.. and really, who cares?

i honestly dont care how good the graphics are or how much blood theres gonna be or some wierd new combat style...that is why i am so hyped for WAR. Sure it may not have the best graphics but it brings alot of new and interesting ideas to the fantasy MMO genre. I think people are starting to forget that the whole point of playing a game is to have FUN. Yes, FUN. Remember that word? WAR looks incredibly fun, especially since i enjoy hardcore pvping. Some people are so in love with AoC cuz it has some nice graphics and some new combat. Big deal! How long do you expect that "OMG NEW COMBAT" excitement to last? I dont mean to bash AoC cuz im sure it'll do fine, but right now WAR looks so much more impressive.

But hey, i could be wrong (highly doubt it though). So if you think WAR looks cheap and unsatisfying, dont play. Actually it's better for the rest of cuz less ppl means more room to quest and less lag

    Happy  WAAAGH to you!

The "same old thing" is why we have this website. If nobody liked to do the same old thing, we wouldnt have this wide open subculture known as "the gamers" running all over cyber space chewing up bandwith.

If you do the "same old thing" only in a good way .... we will flock to it.

How much research have you done on "why" the genre was created.  Also, same boring features equals same boring games, this is why revolutionary features CAN equal fun, common sense.

If you dun like it, dun play it.

It is NOT common sense for revolutionary features to equivate fun. The Sims Online is a good example of being revolutionary in its franchise but not in the online world.

WAR is most likely going to be like WoW.

It has to be to get a lot of money $$$.

If you like WOW and its bright community, you will like WAR.

Why are you so excited about WAR, looks like the same old thing to me.

    Because...

    - If WAR is competition for WoW ... the players win, (this will force blizzard to actually add some content instead of Visa cards, tourneys.. etc)

    - If Wow is competition for WAR ... the players win, (this will force mythic to focus on content instead of nurfing nurfing and nurfing ..DAOC)

    simple.

    players may benefit.. meybe....

Whats innovative about WAR isn't any specific feature.   Its an innovative design style to the whole game.  The approach they are taking to the game is completly different then any other game I've looked into.  Its not about being uber leet, its about making and playing a game that is fun to play.

Innovation isn't adding tons of useless features that bog down gameplay or performance.  This game will be far more innovative in philosophy then many other games are in useless features.

Also why do the people who come around to bash the war community sound like they have IQ's that would make good golf scores?  Just makes you wonder about peoples maturity when people come around and say stuff like "War will be for little babies because its cartoony while AOC will be for grown up cause it has boobies tee hee".   Or something similar

I supose because seems an expansion of people like in wow, with more interesting pvp, and the world of warhammer, that, lot of people likes, also, have some good marketing, but, I think, connan (if you dont remember arnold on the films >_<) will be better than this one, at least, will bring more interesting new things.

look at GM they created all these new cars no body buys and now they are going back to the old style and stick with the same old thing that works.  Just b/c someone came up with a vision and brillian ideas doesnt mean massive ppl are going to like it.

    Uhm. Because its good?

Because Games workshop have been making games since 1979(ish) and therefore understand the mechanics of what makes a game far better than most games houses.

Because their character concepts whilst not being original, are solid and far more in line with what I want from a fantasy based game.

Because I like the trailer vid, and it exhibits the kind of humour I appreciate. which is classically warhammer also.

    waaagh?

My virtual sword of ultimate death and rending is better than *your* virtual sword of ultimate death and rending, because *mine* goes with my armour, okay?

Everyone likes the same old things in their essence, that is, in the fundament of acting upon it not in the exact same ways every time, but in very similar ways every time.

To the OP, innovation doesn't come out of nowhere. It comes out of the same old things. I already said this in another post with exactly the same topic. People who are looking for innovation in WAR will be disappointed, because there's little to be had. People who are looking for improvement and cool new ways to do the same old things will be the ones ultimately satisfied, because for the most part, WAR very well represents "breathing new life into a stale genre", in the meaning that the body is the same, the life is the same, but it has a new impulse.
