When eq2 releashed and for a period first 10 months it had 500k on his server until soe in lu 13 destroyed balance and most people left thus it wasnt like swg in same period totaly changed and most people left thereafter soe made some good changes and good content expansions but eq2 never recover the original population. Now servers are in good population condition at least mine is (splitpaw).
hit ~350K just after launch, but that had dropped to below 200K by the time LU13 came around, but it’s been slowly going up since.
Balance was non-existent before this, 1 of the 6 tank classes could tank, 1 of the 6 healer classes could heal and 1 of the 12 DPS classes could out DPS any of the tank classes. LU13 was critical in stopping the games bleeding and it did exactly what it was supposed to, balance the classes and make it possible for the devs to design content effectively. EQ2
You forget some things before lu 13 there where enough tanks able to tank gaurdians ,palladins ,berzerkers, shadowknight, (not with same quality but quite berable ) , only monks and bruisers wherent so good but they had other bonuses .
Pure dps where 6 classes (mages)and not 12 , other 6 you are mentioning about where roques which they where utility until then and also had decent dps ,fighters where suppose to do highest melle dps as stated from soe .So when soe declared combat changes everyone was asking a lot of things for his class and roques after lu13 kept all utility they had and took so much high dps and (even in archetype things wasnt balanced ) with no other change made on their defens bonuses.
Only healers was needing fixing was from shaman tree especially mystic .It ended up warden and fury to look alike while both of them where very good healers before combat changes .
I could easily see after lu 13 necromancer solo yellow heroic and brigand solo white heroic while others needed group of 4 or 5 for them .In 2 months period after lu13 and desert of flames expansion servers was almost empty and american server was merging 6 months after .
Now almost 1 year and a half later balance looks very good and some other features is a lot better (leveling and crafting is quicker and more pleasant) better itemization and more drops from instances than in the past while content was always very good.
No one with a brain would use any other tank if a guardian was available. Both scout and mage classes have always been various degrees of DPS an utility, but most were getting priest level DPS pre LU13, the lone exception being Warlocks.
Fighters were never ever supposed to be the top melee DPS classes they were designed as tanks. The fact that they were out damaging both scouts and mages was because spell and combat art damage scaling was utterly broken. Warlocks were able to get around this with AE damage and broken proc mechanics.
Everyone is saying how excited they are about Rise of Kunark by it seems obvious they want to kill the solo parts of this game but increasing the level cap, introducing epic quests (probably with parts that required/force raiding and grouping) and requiring people to "gear-up" before they can access the new Kunark content.
People are starting to play EQ 2 more because you can solo but SOE keeps making it most forced to join a guild then raid.
It is typical SOE - we love SOLO content and will play EQ 2 - so SOE releases an expansion for group and raid content!
Once again you care complaining that you are forced to raid to complete raid content. Having content for multiple play styles is not forced play. If all the games content was solo that would be an example of forced play because there is only one type of content.

Where do you keep coming up with this crap?
I have played EQ2 since release, and have two characters nearly maxed out (level 70, over 90AA). And one has NEVER been in a guild, and one is in a very casual guild that could not raid crushbone without falling on their face.
Nobody is "forced" to do anything. The whole beauty of EQ2 is that there is so much to do and so many options that you can play for years and never see it all. There are easy parts, there are hard parts, and there are a couple of parts that are near impossible without a perfect raid group. but raiding only makes up maybe 5% at most of the game.
After being an "uber raider" in EQ1 for over 6 years, I have lost all desire to do what you describe "has" to be done, yet I am getting along quite well in EQ2 doing only occasional pickup raids for fun.
And since very few details of Kunark have actually been released, how is it that you are passing on your expert opinion on it months before release? What do you know that the rest of us don't know - or is it just your bias against SOE that is causing all that?
...Over the 3ish years its been out, it has drastically, and I mean drastically, changed and all for the better. It's is seriously the most in-depth and best MMO out there. They borrowed many features from World of Warcraft, but all for the good. Etc like griffons and talent trees (Achievement trees in EQ2 and there are more options in this game.)
You have it kind of backwards there.
In fact, WOW "borrowed" talent trees from EQ1 and Asheron's Call 1. WOW did almost nothing new (anything new?).

Actually, after raiding in EQ 1 and somewhat in WoW, I almost cannot do it at all anymore. I just really have lost the patience for it. I have also lost a lot of patience for grouping as well.
Yes, regarding Rise of Kunark, it was mentioned that you will have to "gear up" to experience the new content. You can find it if you do a search for it. Further, I believe the "Epic Quest" will require a lot of grouping and raiding sub-quests and elements.
It is a very real possibility that the Rise of Kunark will turn EQ 2 in the wrong direction from solo friendly to more forced grouping and more forced raiding.

Where you are getting your information thats its not going to be solo friendly from, god only knows.
But whoever your getting your info from, dont listen to them. Its plainly noted on the "official" Rise of Kunark website that this expansion will cater for all styles...Solo, Group & Raid. In fact that is no different to the previous three expansions.
i have been playing EQ2 since beta. Every single expansion in the game has catered to ALL playstyles including solo, group and raid. THere is not reason for it to be different this time. AS a matter of fact the main EPIC questline of RoK has already been announced as being more casual friendly with a reward available for those that dont raid.
Ive been raiding and clearing the games highest end content for more than 2 years now. That being said, I spend at least 50% or more of my online time happily soloing.
As long as you dont expect to solo raid content, you wont be disappointed.

they allready said that you will get interims rewards on the epic quest and that the quests starts out solo and group and in the end you get to improve your epic weapon with raids.
so if you don't want to raid you will get most likely a legendary version of your weapon, and if you do the raids too it will upgrade to fabled (like they are allready doing it wih the sword of destiny questline)

LIER!
Explain to me, how exactly been the WEAKEST player family in the server, not able to rule anything, is actually been catered to? Explain to me how you can be catered to while everyone is soloing better then you?
You may not realise you are a lier...and if you didn't realise you are lying to peoples around, then I blame it on SoE propaganda, they got it soo well that some peoples are lying to themselves, and then to everyone else, without even noticing it.
To be catered to, the first rule would be to completely, and totally, master your gameplay. Soloers are merely tolerated, they may survive, as the weakest players, in the game. That is NOT catering to soloers.
Same goes for groupers, yet it is not as bad as soloers. On a scale of shafting, soloers are been shafted a long time, while groupers are merely shafted. Saying the game caters to these players make you a lier.

Unacceptable for a game that is focused on soloing or grouping. You think like a french nobleman toward peasants. They will be happy with the remains.
Best groupers have to be groupers. Best soloers should be soloers. You are focusing on EQ2 weakness...

most games reward raids with best items, if you don't agree with that then you should possibly find a game without raiding or a game that has another rewards system.
its no problem to group or solo without raid equip (i did that often enough), yes it will get easier with fabled equip, but the diifferences to the best legendary equip that you can get from grups in instances/dungeons are not that big.

Soloers will never be the best of EQ2 gearwise. Let's face it, gear, or becoming stronger, is why we play these games. Whether you'd like to admit it or not.

#1 - This is a discussion, why all of the emotion?
I play a ranger, I know some classes solo "better" than I do - so what? It has not stopped me from completing every HQ, or doing 800 quests. I play a warden also - so when I solo with her I just have to play smarter. I don't want every class to be the same that would seriously be boring.
It is nice that they are going to hand out nice loot to non-raiders, but I still feel that the best items should come from raiding. Effort should be rewarded. Otherwise, when you activate your account - why not just hand out the best armor and weapons as a claim item?
Raiding is easier to get into than most people think. Doing it well is another story, but it is worth the time and effort if it has the gear that you want.
Soloing is to be expected, but we are also playing a "MMO" so why not make some friends and try grouping once in awhile?
Sony HAS made changes to make it easier to solo. They have even nerfed zones to make it easier to raid so that you don't have to be an uber player to do these things.
In the end, we should all do what makes us happy - if eq2 isn't making you happy there are plenty of other games out there to try.

Can you elaborate on this? Do you feel that solo content is being ignored, and if so, what do you think should be added to fix it?

I am just curious about your viewpoint on this.
What is there to elaborate on? Raiders get the best gear. Raiders get the most content. They get to level, then they get an end game with lots of nice ways to further their toon's progression. Soloers/casuals/groupers do not get that option. They get the same options as a raider minus the progression part.
How exactly are soloers/casuals/groupers being catered to? Perhaps those defending this need to elaborate. Seems pretty simple to me.
Casuals are getting a bone thrown at them. That is all.

Just because you can't read doesn't mean there is no point. Its stated pretty obviously in both our posts.

Dude, you seriously are either misinformed or ignorant.
Zero end game content unless your a raider??? I dont think so. So what are instances then like Unrest, Obelisk of Blight etc. Exactly like raids except designed for a group.
So dont give me that BS about raiders only having end game content.
Well, if you ask me, EQ2 has way to little endgame content if you are into progressing your character and experiencing new things. When you are lvl 70 you have like what? 5 instances to do and 3 non-instanced zones? The instances take 30 mins tops when you know em. I have better things to do that running the same 5 instances 10000000 times a month. Then there is the fact that progression equipment wise is kinda lacking, atleast it was for a ranger. There were like 3 bows worth getting for me at the time, and those were in the high-end raiding game only. Mind you, i did raid, i had mostly relic and i had a summoning bow from DT.
The only thing that can make me come back to EQ2 is end-game content that lets me progress my character(in a substantional way, im not gonna raid 30 hours for 10HP more) and let me experience lots of content. I think they are going the right way with the epic thing in the next expansions, and i sincerely hope they put lots of groupable and raidable stuff in.
And btw, i freaking hate soloing. It is so boring. Mmorpgs arent very dynamic, but if you solo, it becomes even more repetitive. Pull single mob, smash buttons, dead. Atleast with a group you get the chance of nameds, you are moving along in a dungeon, fighting mobs that might actually kill you. I really dont understand soloers.
yeah solo'ing can be boring, but your not going to get grouped 100% of the time, and you can still group up to do the solo content as well. I would'nt want to see the game go back to the old way of - log in to game, put LFG tag up above your head, sit down and also start putting LFG shout-outs going, stay like that all day alot of the time, log-out of game and do rl stuff, log-in next day and do same thing. thats what it was like when the game first was released, thats why i left on the first occasion.

Why would a casual player need the best gear? We all want the best gear. Hell I want a Maserati. Question is what level of effort am I going to put into getting it?
I will reiterate my earlier point, if SOE makes it so the casual player can get the best gear - why not just make the top level gear a /claim item?
Solo content is made for just that - soloing. You are rewarded for the level of effort.
Group content requires organization and a little bit of time so a little more effort - with a little more in the way of rewards...
Raid content requires even more effort = so the reward is even better gear.
That being said, I was just in Mistmoore castle last night - with a group trying to get a class armor drop. I didn't have to raid to get that and I sure don't think that there should be an easier way to get something that worthwhile.
If it is gear for the masses, it is not special, it is just gear. If Maseratis were easy to obtain - they'd be called Kia's.

I have played EQ2 since release, and have two characters nearly maxed out (level 70, over 90AA). And one has NEVER been in a guild, and one is in a very casual guild that could not raid crushbone without falling on their face.

You have it kind of backwards there.
In fact, WOW "borrowed" talent trees from EQ1 and Asheron's Call 1. WOW did almost nothing new (anything new?).

Ive been raiding and clearing the games highest end content for more than 2 years now. That being said, I spend at least 50% or more of my online time happily soloing.
As long as you dont expect to solo raid content, you wont be disappointed.

so if you don't want to raid you will get most likely a legendary version of your weapon, and if you do the raids too it will upgrade to fabled (like they are allready doing it wih the sword of destiny questline)

You are focusing on EQ2 weakness...

its no problem to group or solo without raid equip (i did that often enough), yes it will get easier with fabled equip, but the diifferences to the best legendary equip that you can get from grups in instances/dungeons are not that big.

Dude if you cant master solo play, dont start calling others Liars. Sounds like you need an easier game if you cant handle it.

He is saying the game is still catering to raiders. Just because there is solo content in the game doesn't mean they are being catered to. It means they are being tolerated and thrown a bone. Soloers will never be the best of EQ2 gearwise. Let's face it, gear, or becoming stronger, is why we play these games. Whether you'd like to admit it or not.

#1 - This is a discussion, why all of the emotion?
#2 Liar, not lier.
Brostyn,
Can you elaborate on this? Do you feel that solo content is being ignored, and if so, what do you think should be added to fix it?
I am just curious about your viewpoint on this.

There is a lot more solo content in the EoF pack than there are raids. So whats your point, right you dont have one.

There is a lot more solo content in the EoF pack than there are raids. So whats your point, right you dont have one. Its simple. What end game content does everyone else have? Why is the only option to raid? There is more end game content for raiders. There is zero for anyone else.

Casuals are getting a bone thrown at them. That is all.
We just want really good gear that we can solo for....
