WoW's release was TERRIBLE. You could not play the game. The server crashed multiple times. I was a Guild Leader and had the difficult decision of deciding whether or not to transfer the Guild we formed to a new server. We ultimately decided to remain on the original server, luckily, as the server we were considering transfer to crashed and remained down the next day.

QFT. The most serious bug I ran into was a character-freeze during copper mining. Easily fixable with a re-log.
WoW's server stablization was horrible but the game itself wasn't. Game was solid but server stablization was bad as hundreds of thousands of people bombarded the server login.
Vanguard's Servers were fine, the game was designed poorly and cause people to crash; not because of the servers but because of the game itself. Very big difference. Servers bounce back when other servers are added. Game design cannot.

i just remeber the huge ammount of lag and servers going up and down all the time. and this was even a few months after release. WoWwas no where near perfect and had many ogf the same problems that vg is having. also it seems to me many off the ppl that play WoW have never played anoth mmo so when they try and play something else it must be like WoW or it must be bad
Yes, I was there for WoW's release. Played the first month. The servers were overpopulated, which caused massive lag. Blizzard obviously didn't expect that many players. They were opening up tons of new servers weekly. There were no bugs that stopped me from playing, and after the first week the game ran smoothly.
And your assumptions are goofy. I'm sure its the first MMO for a lot of people. I was playing MMOs for four years before the release of WoW, and its a great game despite the trolls.
The lag may have been bad in WoW but its overall code was fine. It was lagging at first because Blizzard had no idea there would be so many people trying to log on the first week. The sheer numbers threw them back (google it...it's a fact).
The lag in Vanguard is not caused by server instability. It's caused by the rushed programming and cache overloading from poor coding. Big difference

Server issues are not game issues.

Hardly. The vast majority of WoW's problems were caused by the droves of people flocking to (what was then) an amazing game. Vanguard's issues are caused by... well... poor coding.

Most of us have learned to deal with or ignore these people. Still, there's no denying that Vanguard is not even comparable to WoW, for a variety of reasons. Just because the fanboys say it, doesn't make it automatically wrong.
Blizzard is know for releasing polished products. Server instability, from too many people, was expected.
As already mentioned, there wasn't any problem with Vanguard servers. The game was not polished. Hell, it wasn't even finished.
Exactly. Hence, the "why many trash vg's release.....and not WoW's release."
And believe me...they did trash WoW's release. I was a MOD here when it happened. There were many bannings and nashings of teeth that day I tell you when the ban stick surfaced. *

Some (Many) do not. I played WoW for a long time. I was the Guild Leader of a raid guild. I think a lot of people are unhappy with WoW that play the game. The WoW clone WAR will get a large market from it.
WoW has possibly ruined MMORPGs. I am serious. Vanguard is the alternative to WoW-like MMORPGs. Unfortunately, its release was so bad that it suffered from it.

Apart from the server issues, WoW's release went fairly smooth, as did the BC expansion. I don't think Blizzard expected so many people would be playing the game. So, yeah, server issues and game play issues are two different things. Now, if they hadn't been able to fix the server problems then they would have had a problem. Its kind of hard for a game like Vanguard to have server problems like that when hardly anyone is playing. SOE only wishes they had that kind of problem.

i have played way too many of the mmo's that have come out and everyone i have ever played has had growing pains. everone seems to trash vg for trying to not make blizzard mistakes of not having enough servers. i will admit that they should have waited a bit to release the game but looking at the market lately most of the mmo lately have been rushed( ie archlord, rf online, etc.) Eve online had its issues, wow had theres but why the big vg must die and only WoW is good. I applaud them for the trying to add someting different twith diplomacy and crafting then trying to just be another WoW set in another I.P. (ie LOTRO). WoW will be around for a long time for the only true WoW killer will be WoW if it does not add some new life to the game. most of the ppl i know quit playing they felt like burning crusade was the same old grind just in new places. hopefuly POBS, AoC, or war will have a new feel .

Just for the record. WoW took that art design from the Warhammer Art Books. Just needed to say that I actually like WAR but not sure it will be the MMORPG for me. I think EQ 2 as it is right now is a superior game (this is pure speculation).
To be a major competitor of WoW, you will have to replicate WoW. You cannot, as with Vanguard, do things differently or the traditional (EQ) way. Vanguard is the only alternative, I think, to a WoW clone for a more sophisticated MMORPG experience.
The "sand box" world attains a new and unique level with Vanguard. I say thank Gawsh for that.

Actually WoW is a clone of WAR if you think of it, the entire concept of warcraft is based on Warhammer.
Beside that I don't think WAR and WoW will be clones of eachother gamewise. (yes they are both mmorpg's but that wont make them clones imo)

Are you suggesting a new concept?
The sandbox concept: Vanguard.
The WoW concept ... eh, accessible, easy, limited options, nothing of exploration or depth, hardly any complexity, etc.
And the WAR concept?
EDIT: From what I have experienced in EQ 2, which is limited, it seems like that game has combined elements of accessibility without compromising depth or complexity. It is a truly fascinating game. It is a real wonder to me why it is not more popular. I always thought EQ 2 not only performed badly but was very different from what it is. I am extremely happy I decided to buy and play the game.

what ppl truly need to do is let a game stand on it''s owm merits and quit trying to fit them in another games mold. i mean how many truly original can a fantasy mmo be...i meant they all for thwe must part will have magic, elves dwaves humans, swords and armor. it just the suptile ways they got about combat and graphics.
Some people might have serverproblems with WoW's release (europe's release actually went smooth), but the most important thing about WoW's release is that you had the feeling you where playing a finished game. Vanguard from the start felt like a game that needed 6 more months at least of polishing before becomeing entertaining. At no point did i feel in my first weeks of WoW that the game needed even 1 more month of polishing or fixing up, the game simply felt ready.

They have since polished it and are working aggressively toward finishing it. It is the simple truth.
