So where does the lack of substance come in? Yes his style is over the top, he is the "cool guy" that everyone wants to hang around, blah blah, yeah we all see through it. But where is the lack of substance, I mean theres podcasts, paul has his own blog, theres tons of video's, so I really dont understand the lack of substance your talking about. The only lack of substance from war that I see in general is that they havent released info about the two elf classes. But your right, Im way off topic, enjoy your thread.
Go slow slick....I know I said comprehension was not going to come easy for you, and thanks for proving the point.
Where did I say that there was a lack of substance?
It was 3 words, how could you possibly struggle to read them?
Style over substance.
HIS STYLE IS WHAT PEOPLE ENJOY, IT'S NOT SO MUCH WHAT HE SAYS, BUT HOW HE SAYS IT.
Comprehension skills rule huh?
Style over substance indicates there is a lack of substance. Maybe you should go ask someone what a phrase means before you use it and try to call other people slow.
Have fun with your aneurysm and your community!!!

God forbid they have a charismatic person for PR eh?
They gave plenty of substance in those podcasts. They are also entertaining to watch.
Rude social misfits is certainly not who I want for a PR person.
*sigh*
Did I say that it was a bad thing?
Did I say that it was a bad choice?
Did I criticize the choice for having someone charismatic?
Did I say that there was NOT substance in the podcast?
I've got no problem with 'em, I personally do NOT care for them, I dont feel that he is sincere, I dont feel that it adds anything to the podcase. The info that they share in the podcasts is very solid, to ME, having the smarmy Barnett give them takes something away from it, but I know that MANY more people really enjoy it and him. I'd suggest that THOSE people are the target demographic of the podcast. (kind of obvious isnt it? After all, who has a target demographic, and then says "let's have someone who could not reach that demographic be our spokesperson."?)
So again, yeah, the target demographic for his podcasts, I believe, are those who are partial to his style, even more than what the podcast has to say. That's not to say people dont care about the info, but they like HIM, and his style, and that means as much or more than what he has to say.

Hehe, if you want to be confrontational, yeah, you can take it any way you'd like.
Fact is, it's 3 words, style over substance, you asked what people it was aimed at, and I said style over substance. i.e. people who prefer his style of presentation as being more important than what he says.
Like you eloquently said, there are people out there who can help you, and please, for your sake, I hope EAMythic never has to own to having someone like you as a fan, you do such a good job of representing your community!

Actually im originally from Brum, and used to be a season ticket holder for the blues. Moved here last year after I met my wife in a game lol.
Anyways Sh*t on the Villa, and may both games do well in their respective fields
I am interesting in seeing both games, I think the MMORPG genre will definitely be changed by both AoC and WAR after they come out.
But when it comes to hype Funcom simply hasn't been matching Mythic when it comes to converage of their game.
Funcom has been taking the more typical developer approach, keeping things secret and not revealing many details Mythic has been having monthly, detailed podcasts, showing up at every Games Workshop event and games conference that they can and holding press conferences to let people play their PvP.
I would LOVE if Funcom held a press conference and let gaming magazines play their PvP that they have been going on about, but they haven't done this. Instead we get interviews. I'm tired of interviews, I've heard everything in them already. I want to here articles from people who have PLAYED the game, I want to know what drunken brawling is like with a tavern full of people. I want to hear about how troop formations work and how siege engines operate.
Hype doesn't truly matter, in the end the quality of the game will determine it's success, but right now Funcom has been holding back details about their game and now they're seeing the result.
MMORPGs are not just evolving in terms of gameplay, they're evolving in terms of how developers communicate with their community. Funcom needs to take steps and become part of this blog-drvien, podcast-filled, Youtube-watching consumer if they want any hype.
At the moment I think WAR deserves more hype than AoC. Why? Not because I think one game is better than the other, rather Mythic has been more hands on with its player base than Funcom. Mythic just demoed war at Gamesday Baltimore, and it seems it received unanimous praise. I believe that if you can show off a game publicly and receive good reviews than your hype is justified. Funcom hasn't been as hands on, and has less frequently made the game available to the public at conventions. Maybe after E3, if AoC receives the same great reviews WAR did, then people can discuss which has greater hype.
Again, I'm not discussing which game is better, rather which one has been shown to the public more often and so far seems to deserve its hype (warhammer).

Im not trying to say WAR hasnt got any videos so no need to post any here.
I realise your predominantly into WAR so I forgive you in thinking AoC has a lack of showing.
Funcom had a hands on approach at the RPC in Germany not long ago.
They were at DreamHack too - in Sweden - 10'000 ppl there and gave out 7000 DvD's promoting the game.
Thanks for the link to the extensive list of videos, I had not seen quite a few of those.
Sounds like Funcom may be focusing more on Europe to generate their publicity which makes sense given their location and there's less stigma to the game's 'M' rating. (You can bet the Euros aren't freaking out over the succubus screenshot)
I've been looking over several of the gameplay videos and they look cool but is there one with any PvP gameplay released? The guild-town PvP battles are going to be a huge part of the game and I'm really anxious to see what massive combat looks like with real players behind it!

I don't really have time to go through all of the game demos, and fly-bys, and stuff that I've already seen.
Which ones are of people playing the game, that aren't developer demos? I can't tell by the names.
Interviews are fine, and demos are great, and fly-bys are nice, but I'd really like to see what it looks like when a fan plays the game. Also which one is PvP? With all those videos there has to be at least a glimpse of PvP?
I'm at work and just don't have enough time to glance at them all, so help would be great.
--------------------------------------------- I live to fight, and fight to live.
I might not be able to get my hands on AoC due to the nudity so that might be a factor in it's lower hype. Also, there haven't really been any videos showing AoC's big selling points like visual explanations of combat, videos of dismemberment/decapitation while with WAR, you just think WoW but amazing PvP and in the WAR universe... better than WoW.
Soo, more people get an understanding of what WAR has and such with less reading invovled. Especially since to know Conan, they have to read but quite a bit of gamers already know about WAR due to them playing the tabletop, or knowing about it.
*Edit*
Ha, thanks for that video post! Now time to take a day sometime soon to watch them all .
I think the difference in those videos as opposed to the WAR videos is simply player experience.
No one has played AoC, unless they're in Beta. Literally hundreds of people have played WAR, and I have yet to hear one of them complain about it. Word of mouth and "I've played it, here's my impression" type information to me is way way way better than a dev playing and saying "This is what you can do in the game."
I think if Funcom sets up a playable demo at this year's E3, and they actually let players play their PvP, and not just walk through some areas fighting NPCs like they've shown in the videos, then the hype for the game will increase significantly.
Fact is, I can read all I want about how great their PvP is going to be, but unless I talk to someone or read someone's impressions of how the game played, I'm not going to start truly thinking highly of their PvP system. A lot of things sound good in writing, and then are horrible in action.
So please Funcom, release some PvP info, and hopefully more than the 2 screenshots that you thought was "making up" for the lack of dungeon information.
--------------------------------------------- I live to fight, and fight to live.
A low hype is good, because if a game is super hyped and makes a big plunge at release it's pretty much doomed. Everything above 7 is in fact GOOD so don't understand what there is to whine about.

I live to fight, and fight to live.

I live to fight, and fight to live.
I cant wait to play personally. *fingers crossed*
No SOE
NO SOE
NO SOE
Please?
A low hype is good, because if a game is super hyped and makes a big plunge at release it's pretty much doomed. Everything above 7 is in fact GOOD so don't understand what there is to whine about.
