SOE will never even smell my money. It doesn't matter if SOE has absolutely no control over any of the aspects, as long as they will gain even 1 cent from my subscription and box, I will not spend my money on that game. While I do understand why they went with SOE, and I to some extent approve of it, it was a good move for the game in a long run, but it all boils down to my personal hate towards SOE and the fact that I will be giving my money to help them prosper. It will never happen. So long PotBS. I wish you could have found other publisher...like EIdos.
Devalon- folks like you make me laugh too if its any consequence... If youll go back and read both of my posts its very clear I placed much of the blame on the developers of Vanguard- but lets face it- games go to SOE to fall off the map before their painful death. I have true sympathy for people that subscribe to the scam that is the station pass to play one of like 8 bad or outdated MMO's- SOE is a shady company in general that makes poor game decisions- game design or not, and I wouldnt want my game associated with their bad press, reputation, and development decisions. Period. Call me pissed about Vanguard, etc.-whatever makes you feel good bro- truth is I got over it a long time ago, but Im glad I learned my lessons- from SWG, EQ2, all the way up to SOE's takeover of Sigil....That all sets a pretty good precendent for games under the SOE flag...But I guess folks like you will keep on ignoring their past and continue to give your money to a poorly managed company.
I just hope none of you show your face in here again when SOE acquires this license or somehow starts to assist with some content development, patches, game maintenance or support, etc. - because I will have my flamethrower stocked full of "I told you so" waiting...
EQ2 is a great game, played it since EoF release? I'll give you that it had a rough start, but if you haven't played it in a year then you don't have a clue.
As for your flame thrower, ohh I'm scared.. Flame away
Just out of curiousity since your not gonna play the game because SOE will be handling advertisement and billing why will you be hanging out here? Troll much? Let me guess your SOE hate rants in the SWG forums just aren't getting you enough attention?
Me I'll play if its good I'll continue to pay and play if its bad I won't <shrug>
BTW if you read in the VG forum seems that games making a slight come back since SOE picked it uip and started fixing the hundreds of bugs it had.
Also hear in SWG forum lots of people actually like SWG and that its getting a breath of new life <shrug> Don't really care either way As i played both and didn't care for either much (Talking SWG pre NGE which IMO was a farce, "Oh No the planet I was on just ran out of all Gasses what am I breathing?!")
Some of you guys are having a diffcult time understanding the business and marketing aspects of this deal, so I'll put it to you in very uneducated terms.... If you started your own lawn care business, would you let another lawn care company publish and pass out your business cards, market your services, etc. when its known for destroying landscaping, turning green grass into brown, and blowing the freshly cut grass all over your neighbors porch?
The point most of us are trying to make is that its a horrible business decision- especially in light of what recently happened....Its making a lot of folks scratch their head. Its a bad business decision if nothing else- which questions the intelligence level of the PotBS creators overall. Do some of you understand this now?
Uhh dude they're not Publishers. Sony is a Publisher and a Developer, but the guys making PotBS are DEVELOPERS there's like a HUGE difference.
SOE & Lucas Arts fuk'd up SWG but SOE did not fuk up Vanguard. Vanguard was way screwed up and in the red long before SOE even signed the deal with Sigil. If SOE hadn't of been gracious enough to buy vanguard on the fact it has potential to be turned around Vanguard would be dead, gone, completely non existant like AC2.
Its hilarious how no one reads the fine print, the guys put it out there and told you everything in the contract. The fact they're in control of their community and servers and development and design says it all. It says "we're in good health & and this is just to bring our game to a wider market than just those that watch the internet" otherwise SOE would be throwing money at them and giving them 'hands on help' like they did with Sigil.
I for one don't have any hate towards SOE. I loved EQ (even if planes of power turned me off) & I love EQ2. SWG was a huge mistake but who really knows how to say no to Lucas arts when they want something they want something and SWG was their intellectual properity they had control and they pushed for the NGE that caused all the hate. Its funny how its only the jaded SWG fans that continously promote that SOE is evil when infact they aren't. EA is the ultimate devil and I'll never be lead to believe anything different.
I can't wait for Pirates of the Burning Sea and raising pure hell on the open ocean!
Please Refer to Doom Cat with all conspiracies & evil corporation complaints. He'll give you the simple explination of..WE"RE ALL DOOMED!
While I will admit this is disheartening to me, I don't believe it's a bad thing.
From a business perspective, SOE has some serious advertising muscle. Also, players who might not normally play this type of game may experience it on the Station Pass, drawing in potentially new customers.
I do realize many people may NOT play this game, solely due to SOE's track record, however, taking out aggression for a corporation on an independent company is foolish.
I would hope anyone who's been following this game the way I have will try it before they damn it all to hell. Remember, this game has been done and in beta for some time now; this isn't a takeover midway through the development cycle.
Hopefully everyone will keep this in mind during it's release! I'm sure I'll be giving this game a try soon enough.
Waiting for something fresh to arrive on the MMO scene...
Hehe...many of you are only giving examples of SWG and Sigil/Vanguard...Do you honestly think those are SOE's only screw ups? DO some research folks, theres a long list.....
I didn't find a list... since you're all knowing about it, tell me how many times has Platform Publishing screwed up, and when? Seems like they've only published a few games, Toon Town Online by Disney and a couple PSP games that no one cares about.
PotBS Fan - "Oh crap, there goes another great game to the SOE incinerator! Guess I'll have to find something else to play." SWG Veteran - "Heh, yeah it sucks don't it? SOE the massive corporate king of MMOs has their tainted hands on yet another game. Too bad Lucas Arts didn't step in with their ultimate authority in our games development and stop the NGE." EQ1 Veteran - "Uhm, so what if SOE is publishing and marketing the game. EQ1 is the godfather of MMOs and always will be. Haha, UO? That's not even a 3 dimensional game." Planetside Veteran - "SOE doesn't know what they are doing, I mean holy crap. They let people play our game for free so we have competition." EQ2 Veteran - "Oh, notice how everyone that hates SOE never talks about the sucess of EQ1 and EQ2? It's amazing isn't it?" Matrix Online Veteran - "Yeah, our game was dying and that damn SOE company bought it and kept it alive. They aren't anything like EA and just shutting stuff down the moment it loses a customer." VG Veteran - "Theres so much wrong with our game, but I'm still playing it. Everyone knows Brad is a genius and Sigil would have launched this a lot more smoothly had they not joined with SOE." /sarcasm off I can't say this enough, even though I no longer support SOE, not because of SWG, but because of their lack of customer care. I still applaud SOE where I can't say the same for any other gaming company with multiple titles under their belt. NO other company, NONE has ever offered 7 MMO's for the price of 2 or your favorite for the price of 1. SOE is the only company with the balls to step up to the plate and allow its subscriber the ability to switch from one game to the next so you are never bored. Hate SOE all you want and claim PotBS will fail, but your claims are biased and unfounded since both VG and PotBS were developed by the original companies. Oh no! VG failed? No, Sigil failed you idiot. Oh no! PotBS is going to fail now!! Why? Cause the company retains complete control? Don't you think your taking this SOE hate a little to far and letting your biased opinion of them cloud your mind? People give me crap for supporting EA, the MMO destroyer for shutting down Earth and Beyond. Guess what, I know better then to think that way because Warhammer is being made by a great company, with a great concept and it too made sure to retain developing rights when they joined with EA. If anyone that followed PotBS has suddenly turned traitor because of this, I think your the true failure of MMOs, not EA or SOE, and your lack of support for a game you were passionate about only proves your a pushover who doesn't deserve a game they want.
As far as game companies go, there are hardly any more deserving of contempt than EA, and yet all the fanbois still talk about WAR like it's the second coming.
While I will admit this is disheartening to me, I don't believe it's a bad thing. From a business perspective, SOE has some serious advertising muscle. When any company ties itself to another company they automaticly assume each others baggage, the only way to not get saddled with another companies baggage is to not associate with them.
This is great news, SOE has always been good at MMOs. Their one mistake was SWG and the NGE, a big mistake that is granted, but EQ2 is now in great shape, EQ was a good game and VG is good as well (much better than at launch). And PotBS will be on Station Access, yes! Great news, at least to me
Valant6I just hope none of you show your face in here again when SOE acquires this license or somehow starts to assist with some content development, patches, game maintenance or support, etc. - because I will have my flamethrower stocked full of "I told you so" waiting...
I'm sure that exactly what will happen sometime maybe years from now or next week.. Its independent developing when the people don't want to develope it anymore they would sell it most likely due to this joint to SOE.
I only played one SOE game and that was Planetside what I really had fun playing.
SOE only has acouple games, vanguard and SWG are the biggest where things went wrong. I seen EA cancel more games then that. Also codemaster cancel a game aswell. What publisher would you choose?
When you aiming for a niche market with small playable you don't want a publisher who cancel your life work game. SOE keeps going low subscription base games for thiere fans.

And SOE didn't even mess up Vanguard. Sigil basically released really early because they ran out of funds and SoE came in and funded them and kept it alive. After Vanguard tanked SoE took over.
I am actually happy about this as I already have Station Access My gf is excited too as it will mean a non-fantasy game on it.
A lot of people are comparing this to the Vanguard deal and say that SOE will take over Pirates. Sigil messed Vanguard up not SOE. SOE may be it's saviour now but we will have to wait and see for this. And if PotBS turns out bad, SOE may do the same thing but if it is decent at all. Flying Labs makes out on this and has more money to do more games and perhaps publish their own stuff as they learn from a larger company.
I understand the SOE hate to an extent as I was a SWG player but really they are just as bad as any other company or I should say just the same. I left WoW because I didn't have fun and I see Blizzard just as bad as I do SOE. I actually think the Devs in WoW are worse to be honest. Just in attitude and presence. So every game company is evil to me. I just play what I think is fun and do not look at the company designing or publishing.
Wow, the people on this forum are ridiculous. Here it goes:
SOE basically buys Sigil from M$ with an agreement to publish Vanguard
SOE does not help create the game, but they do set a window for completion because they are paying the bills(this is not the case with Flying Labs)
Vanguard releases because Sigil has no money
Vanguard doesn't sell enough copies or keep enough subscriptions to pay the loans owed to SOE, pay Sigil employees, or make a profit.
SOE does what any lender does, takes control of Sigil for defaulting on loans.
You are right, Flying Labs is in a similar situation with SOE as Sigil was. The same thing will happen to Flying Labs if they lose all their money and can no longer support the game like Sigil. But it all depends on sales. Its stupid to say right now that you aren't going to play this game because SOE is involved. They aren't affecting the development of the game AT ALL. Its a great thing that they are involved in this manner because of the publicity that PotBS will get from being distributed by a AAA company like SOE. If you see the post SOE aquires Flying Labs then you can start to worry.

can't wait to play this game woot. do i care if sony is doing the billing and stuff nah and i like how flying labs basically said don't let the door hit you on the way out if you don't like the deal they made lololol. Anyways i know alot of people that will play this game we tend to not worry about who is doing what in the backround and why is that? becuase all the companies pretty much suck like soe does so we just find games we find fun and play them till we aren't having fun anymore
blah blah blah yes i know SOE is the the most evil thing ever, they have mentally scarred you all for life and have secret control of every aspect of your life's and the magic 8-ball says in the future every company will be SOE.

Even if PotBS goes balls up SOE can't take control. They can offer to buy the IP, but it isn't like VG. Sigil was in debt to SOE, therefore to settle the debt they sold the company. Of course brad would have added abit ontop to get a small profit.
But anyways, FL have been using their own money. They don't owe anyone, apart from the bank maybe.
the people who fear soe are not worth it really, i'm gonna enjoy the game while these people that dislike soe sit in the corner curled up scared the evil SOE is gonna jump from the closet and ruin their lives more.

SOE sounds like trouble... but reading the full dev blog on PotBS website makes me a lil less scared
Everyone here will just have to wait and see what really happens when the time comes.
In America I have bad teeth. If I lived in England my teeth would be perfect.
SOE, is like the godfather of MMORPGS...
If this game ends up being a success... everyone here will be saying "Well FLS was the developer. SoE didn't help. /smug"

I am not going to play it now. They fucked up, and I hate SOE. Its the same stance I took with Vanguard. You won't see a dime of my money, sorry.
You my friend deserve to be flamed any way possible on the basis of paranoia and ignorance
You my friend deserves to lose all the stuff you earned in two years of game time without any explanation except lies.
Then, you'll understand why SoE will never see my money again.
