Listen to Rick.  He is one of the founders.  He speaks the truth my brothers...

This is a great thing that we all should be happy about.  In my opinion its genius.

I don't like SOE at all.  I think their upper management are a bunch of pricks who dont listen to the player base well-enough.  I sincerely hope that Sony decides to just eradicate the SOE unit (MMO-wise).  This will remove a thorn from the MMO-genre and let more innovative companies take its place.

I also urge other MMO gamers to do the same;  Don't give your hard earned money to these craptacular games that are bug ridden and screwed up.  Dont pay to beta test.  Make them release a near perfect game so we can enjoy it, and not beta test retail released games. (thinking of Vangaurd here).  The MMO community is actually a great democratic machine and we control what these companies do and can also bring down these companies if the screw with us.

*bows to all the MMO players out there*

Actually one of the reasons we signed with Sony was that they have an amazing localization staff that was ready to start work on the project even BEFORE the deal was final.  We expect to release in both French and German in Europe, and perhaps other languages as well.  We wrote the game from the ground up with the expectation of localization, so we're already in reasonably good shape on the language front.

I certainly don't suggest you give your money to anyone who is selling you a craptacular game.  I know I don't.  But it would be nice if you at least waited until we shipped before you applied that term to us.  Once we're out the door, *then* make a rational judgement about if the game is one you'll enjoy playing.

Sure when a company like FLS gets the opportunity to have a company like SOE publish there game then it shows that they are not big without the little guy.  I know I sound like i am on a soap box preaching to the masses. But i think that there is more then one way to look at this.. Just read Rick's responses.

Even though I won't be playing it now because of the SOE deal you made, I've got nothing but confidence that you folks at FLS will be putting out a great and original game.  I think that's what ticks me off the most - PotBS will be great pirate fun yet I won't be participating, which I'd looked forward to doing for a long time.

I managed to get three friends of mine interested in this - one I know for sure right off the bat won't touch it now because it's SOE but the other two still might because they weren't around to get lied to during SWG or EQ2.  They already know my opinions of SOE, but I won't try to talk them out of playing PotBS.

    Berryg2005,

Thats to bad.  It's a great game and I hate to see when people do not want to play because who is printing the boxes.   Well I would love to see you change your mind but you sound like its made up...  Good luck out there.

No one ever hurts themself by not giving money to SOE and John Smedley.  Ever.

My question to you is have you been to POTBS site?  And do you think if SOE was not part of this game you for sure would play it?

NP, u can say whatever ya want to make urself feel better about ur decision. Personnally, ive NEVER had an issue with SOE, i enjoy their games, and if this gets added to the station pass, hell, ill give a try. weird, if SOE was so out for my money, why would they offer something like station pass, i own 5 SOE games and pay the price of 2.

I've followed this game's development and have been enthusiastic about it long before there were even avatars.   I've been to the site, in all its many incarnations, several times.  I've stayed current on this game's progress for many moons, and have spent many a night watching Captain Blood and other pirate movies dreaming about playing this game.  And that all came to an end tonight with the SOE news.

Yes, I can safely say that if SOE were not part of this game I'd still be looking forward to playing it.  Very much so.  But that's a moot point.

Cant see how SOE will change anything for the game. If u like it u like it otherwise u dont, SOE dont have anything to do with the gameplay or anything... so whats the problem ?

Oh... yeah you got me there... ouch?

There's still a lot of games I am looking forward to.  I am enjoying LOTRO right now, but was going to segue from that into PotBS, then play PotBS and AoC until WAR's release, then play Warhammer and PotBS.  This just means I'll play LOTRO longer, then go to AoC and Warhammer.  Yeah it sucks that I won't get to play PotBS, and I'm ticked and saddened by that right now but I'll get over it.

And whatever Smedley's paying you to troll for him, tell him it's not enough!

The problem is that for many of us who dislike SOE immensely, playing PotBS will still be giving SOE some of our cash.  And a lot of us just aren't comfortable with doing that given SOE's behavior over the last several years.

yes... well the reasoning goes like this:  Sony gets a small cut from distributing, printing and billing.  People are mad because SOE has made bad decisions.  Therefore, they have to boycott every company owned by the Sony corporation in order to bring them down or make them change their ways.

It's sad really, but maybe the sacrifice they're making by not playing the game just so Sony doesn't make that extra $.10 a month off of them will make a big impact, forcing the company to change their ways entirely or file for bankruptcy.

I know thee guys. I've build ships for them. NO companies dev's are more active in their own forums. These guys are in there, talking about the game with fans everyday. They've been crafting this game, they way they wanted it made, for over 5 years now, with their own cash. They are extremely passionate about this project, and would never give anyone else any measure of control. I expect to them, it would be like handing over their kid. SOE will put their game in boxes, but tose boxes in stores and bill you...thats about it.

Frankly, I am amazed that they were able to broker such a deal....way to go, Rusty!

I bet people who wasted a year and half of their life in SWG grinding to become a jedi are going to take it to their grave that NGE pretty much let anyone be a jedi right out of the box. While I cannot blame you, realize that SoE can't do anything of the sort here. THey are purely distribushion here (thank god).

OR... as consumers we just do not want to patron a business with which we've had a bad experience with before.  If I have a bad experience at say a car dealership or even a movie theater then I'm not going to give them my business.  I don't expect them to go out of business but I'm not rewarding them for their bad service with my business and my cash.  Continually going back to a business where you've had bad experiences in the past makes no sense whatsoever.

You're right, but most of us who are not playing PotBS is not really what SOe might do to the game, rather we don't want SOE to get anymore of our money via FLS.

I never wanted Jedi in the game to begin with - didn't fit the time frame that the game was supposed to be happening in.  But that didn't mean I was OK with SOE lieing to players and telling them that the profession was there and was waiting to be unlocked when it in fact was not.  They did the same thing with Frogloks in EQ2.

I love playing VG, don't get me wrong. But this deal sounds like the one Sigil made with SOE. They ended up selling themselfs to SOE

Most wise people would be cautious with this deal.
