Man, I really wanted to play a MMORPG tonight. Looking at my desktop, there are plenty installed: Guild Wars, WoW, LOTRO, and 9Dragons. Nothing appeals to me.
I want...
* ... to jump on my swoop and ride to my guild's city and check my factories.
* ... survey for more resources and setup a few harvesters.
* ... hit my personal weaponsmith workshop and make some truly exceptional weapons.
* ... Visit the guild mall and see if my merchant has sold anything.
* ... stop by my mansion and put some more loot on display.
* ... jump in my tie-fighter and shoot down a few X-wings.
It has now been over a year since I logged into SWG and some evenings like tonight I still can't believe that it is all gone.
Goddamn you, Sony. Goddamn you.

i sit at my computer to hoping a girl on myspace would talk to me or text me. but i guess it wont ever happen
if i had SWG to play i could keep my mind off of her for weeks...even months and i can forget about her
i miss those's days. being on the run from BH as a Jedi Padawan...
anyway im with ya. and wish there is a MMORPG to play..but there isn't anything

Then log on. I went back just last month to check out Beastmaster it was way better then when i left so im staying for another month . its alot like the CU again and I could have lived with the CU so im staying till PoTbS comes out hope you give it a chance I missed this world to and now im back also everything you stated you missed you can still do.
2 things that can to to make SWG better and bring everyone back
1: give us are 32 professions back so we can mix and match again
2: make Jedi a Alpha Class again and Very hard to get in a fun way. Plus FRS please. and Jedi could do some ass kicking

My 3 friends and I tried it again, about a month ago. We really gave it a shot. I personally gave up at level 15. All I can say - it's NOT good.
Like he said - give us back 24 professions to MIX AND MATCH. For a level-based game, it's VERY POOR game. Pre-cu SWG was unique in its sandbox type of a game. I don't even want to be a jedi, but there should be Jedi in the game and they should be REALLY powerful, like they used to be, with just enough weaknesses to be killable by excellent Bounty Hunters.

its no where near its glory days all im saying is if you miss it then play its alot better then when the NGE first hit but by no means is the game better then CU but it is trying to get betterIf they do a server merger then this game will have some life to it the only thing holding it back is alot of empty servers

Last Thanksgiving, I canceled my last remaining MMO -- Ryzom. It was still a decent game but the parent company had gone bankrupt, and I didn't want to stay during what I thought would be a messy transition... and also my large guild had broken up into 4 guilds, most of them angry with each other... forcing me to choose among friends, which I just did not want to do. And so I canceled that.
Then I went a few months with no MMORPG. Then I tried Vanguard because a friend wanted to try it... and it was OK but not worth sticking with after a couple of months. It didn't get me really "going" in the MMO sense.
So I am back to nothing... and I keep wanting to find one to log in to, but nothing appeals. What I want, is the old SWG back, but I can't have it... so I just end up playing single player games and waiting for the next game to come along and attract me. But none of the ones coming out, seem remotely worth even trying. They're all the same level-based, button-mashing crap that already exists, with a different skin and one or two little "catches" to let them pretend to be different.

I look at the offical forums and spoke with some people in game last time I had an active account and it seems to me that many people are generally just not completely satisfied and are only hanging out until the next best MMO comes rolling out.
The only thing holding it back is NGE.

If that is what you think then delete everything and start all over as a noob.
No items, no credits, no friends.
I'd bet that you're not willingly able to part with all of your stuff, and that you would quit rather then do it all over again.
If it's just a game then doing it all over again should be fun right?
I was playing EQ2 with an old SWG guildm8 and he kept sending me Imperial orders and I kept bringing up old good memories and we both wanted to jump on and play. (also is it just me or does some of the music in Zek have just a hint of a SW theme midway through the song???) I told him not to because if they ever have a reason to bring back the old elements it would be for money so I asked him not to re-sub. I have to say with all the decently backed rumors I have some hopes that the sheer number of lost users and the consitant loss of them will stir the pot. I love EQ2 but would get a station pass in a second to play pre-cu swg. No other game like it before or since. WOW is fine for a while...but once you get uber armor...its over. SWG, well there was always the GCW. Iy was never about raid sets etc...it was about being a BH/MD/MJ/MR/MCM and protecting your PLAYER made town not Tarren Mill. Wow I really miss SWG. Oh well off to play throw rocks at water game in the park...damn.

This game currently is 1/10th of what even the CU was... It's not even close. And yes, for a level-based game, which are lame, it is very poorly done. The 20 developers left in SWG couldn't code their way out of a wet paper bag. Doesn't everyone realize they are simply bringing back old content, and at a MUCH lesser form?

i think the "just a game" people are missing what it was,for me,a star wars fan,it was the chance to do what i could only dream about,live in the star wars "world".bounty hunter,droid engineer,entertainer,almost anything you could think of,you could be,almost anything you could think of,you could do.it was a dream come true for all us SW geeks,then.....we were woke up from our dream by the hand of corprate greed and ignorance.it's not star wars anymore,hasnt been for a long time,but for a breif moment in time,it was,now it's a pitiful MMO in star wars clothing.i miss the old game even with all its flaws where you felt like you were living in star wars,the old community that all (for the most part)helped each other and had some amount of maturity,the magic that it once was,but those are all gone now,now its a pathetic clone fo everyother MMO,a community full of 13 year old l33tard e-thugs with names like jizz-bomb who instead of helping people would rather tell them to get away from them or they'll rape there mothers in real life,and the magic that it once held is gone.
yes it is a game.......but not "just" a game to alot of us.
I personally bought and played Battlefront II for like a week online, but I'd suspect that by now it's a dead game. In honesty it wasn't doing too well even when I played it, and that wasn't too long after it was released.
Yet, LucasArts pumps it (and the Battlefront franchise) as the best selling Star Wars game to date. It even says so on the box. It wouldn't surprise me if that particular label happened to spring up during discussions about NGE, yet, I wonder how it's doing now in terms of active players?
In a way, SOE or LA can't be blamed for trying to give their players what they want, which is essentially what they purchase. "Battlefront II sold more than Star Wars Galaxies? They must want that then!" Problem is, I think they suffer what most of the industry suffers - a lack of understanding about the customers. I REALLY think the folks at SOE were serious when they claimed we'd just play the NGE and like it.
@OP, I too share your pain and have moved on to other sandbox games. Not necessarily MMOs, but anything that involves even a hint of creativity.

uhhhh wow yeah i know the feeling.
uhm... you can still do all of that in game. well maybe all im not sure how the new weapon power ups work with crafted weapons. but the rest is no problem. i just came back and no it aint the cu or pre-cu, we could really use the 32 profs back. but the stuff your talking about can all be done.
yeah i know how you feel, but from your list of things..... you may want to try Eve online lol... once you get good enough you can do some of that stuff
lol just replace 'x wings' with gangs or other people and your good to go
