Ok so I have vanguard still sealed right beside me right now and i want to make sure i made the right decision. Now it was between Vangaurd and EQ2. I want to know if the fact that i want a seamless world and flying freeroam mounts as well as boats can out wiegh the bugs right now. Im patient enough to deal with some bugs for awhile .
I just want to know an honest opinion if i should open it and install it and screw getting eq2 or if i should return it for EQ2. Please quick responce if possible as i am ancy to play lol.

Keep it sealed. If it is between EQ2 and Vg, take EQ2.
I just started EQ 2, but I have been playing Vanguard since BETA.
EQ 2 is a superior game but Vanguard has some better features. The graphics in Vanguard are better but you might not be able to experience those graphics without an advanced system.
The class system is a lot better in Vanguard, and most classes can solo just fine. I suggest Necro, Pscionist, Shaman, and Druid as solo classes and pretty much in that order.
The community in Vanguard is a mixed bag. You have very dedicated people in Guilds that, if you join those guilds, you should receive a lot of help, a lot of grouping, and so forth. In EQ 2, on the Antonin Bayle server, the community has been great. The PvP servers are for the most part nasty and should be avoided, unless you have friends and join a "good" guild.
Some of the content in Vanguard is very fun, very deep. Vanguard can get boring, though. It is a pain in the ass to travel. Today: I had a bug in which I could not open a door to get to a bank. It has a lot of frustrations to the game.
The end-game is simply boring, flat, and ... does not exist. You also do not have anything like the EQ 2 character customization including features and abilities. You simply have no AA point system in Vanguard. You have no mentor system in Vanguard. The player housing system is not fully implemented. Traveling by boat is extremely fun but due to gold duping good luck affording a boat if you do not buy money online. If you do not like to raid, I do not know what options you will have if any for the end game.
Peformance in Vanguard is bad, but better and supposedly going to get a lot better. We hope. Hell, some of us are even praying.
What does Vanguard got? A whole lot of unfulfilled potential. What is that worth? Not a dime until it is realized.
My honest opinion. You want it? Play EQ 2. Keep an eye on this one, especially if you want a huge and very interesting world to explore with an array of content. But be advised that this game is grindy, it is annoying at times, and it is not always fun. The sounds are OK.
If you got some questions, let me know.

WoW and fast food = commercial successes.
I neither play WoW nor eat fast food.
Yea i should have been more clear like if i could pick the two if they were both as equally stable i would take vanguard in a flash because i really like the features in vanguard over EQ2 so if im not a huge person to complain about bugs and be patient is it worth it for me to stick with vanguard.
Return it and exchange it for WoW, you'll be making the right decision.
I only played the game for a few days, as it ran terribly on my comp and I couldn't be bothered trying to play at sub 20fps constantly. Although I quite enjoyed myself apart from the graphics problem I would be hesistant to recommend it. Primarily because since sigil is now down-and-out and subs are constantly dropping one may suspect that updates are going to be few and far between from SOE.
thanks truenorthbg that was good. Im just torn . Cause i want so much to be set on opening vanguard installing it but im thinking of just waiting a day and going back for EQ2. Ok what about this what if i just keep both, like isnt there a subscription that allows me to play both???
I wish I had more experience in EQ 2 to answer that.
Do you have a station pass? I have a station pass and play SWG, Vanguard, and EQ 2 on them. I did like SWG the most until they just implemented Chapter 6, making soloing "impossible."

Here's thing thing:
Vanguard is in a transitory phase. With SOE now at the helm, it's possible the game will become much more stable and quite a decent game. However, it's unlikely that it will ever reach very high numbers after such a disastrous launch. That said, IF you can find a group in Vanguard, the game is pretty fun.
That seamless world, however, loses a bit of its charm when you pass between invisible zones and have to wait a few seconds for it to load. They call it "chunking", but I call it zoning.
If the choice is between Vanguard and EQ2, I would honestly play EQ2 because it's such a well established game and has plenty of people available to play.
Vanguard will require a big time sink though. Be careful and make sure you can afford it.
Yes. As I said, I have a station pass and play several games on it. I will also pick-up PotBS with it. I think it is the best deal out there.
If you play EQ 2 on the station pass, you also receive the adventure packs included in the subscription. You also receive additional benefits such as additional character slots. Here is the link: station-access.station.sony.com/
My friend and I had a serious problem with obtaining a station pass with an existing account. I simply called SOE, contacted some one with Vanguard on the phone, and the guy set up my station account. My friend tried to do that, and he had problems. So, I called for him --he is really younger than I am-- and had the person explain to me what I had to do. I had to close his EQ 1 account and then obtain the station pass through edit on the Vanguard account. After that, he was able to play the game. If you run into any problems with obtaining a Station Pass, simply call them and tell them on the phone to create it for you. It seems difficult to obtain a station pass for existing accounts.
Anyway, I will be back in a bit. I am going for a walk!

If your choices for gaming are Vanguard and EQ2, I would suggest buying a StationPass gamecard and a copy of EQ2, then setting up your account. The gamecard allows you to avoid giving any credit card info, and any possible billing snafus that can happen. Plus, if you end up not liking either game, your account will simply cease to exist when the pre-paid time runs out.
Play EQ2 in the meantime while VG merges and gets their populations settled in, simply because at this point, it's got a higher population, and is more polished and stable. Then, if you still want to play VG after their merges, it won't cost you anything extra because of the StationPass you'll already have.
I played EQ2 from 2004 until a year ago and I've played Vanguard from beta 5. I'll be stcking with VG. I can't tell you which to choose but I can tell you why I prefer VG.
Graphics - I've got a 2.8 Pentium D CPU, 2 gig of ram and a ATI x1950pro card. I can play on reasonably high settings with satisfactory performance. VG in my opinion is stunning in parts. I've always prefered the "realistic" grafics of EQ2/VG to the styleised graphics of WoW/LOTRO. Combat and spell animations are 1 million times better than they were at launch and some of the best I've seen.
Gameplay - I love the VG classes. There'a alot of variety and the classes aren't as bland as in many other games. If you're getting a bit bored of your main, roll an alt and have a totally different game experience.
Immersion/Persistant World - This is the main reason I chose VG over EQ2/LOTRO etc. Non-instanced housing/ boats / seamless world (with chunking from 0.5 secs to 2-3 secs). For me, even though I mostly enjoyed my time in EQ2 there's just not the same sense of scale that VG gives you. I love the non-instanced dungeons which encourage social gameplay e.g. helping out if someone else is in trouble.
I'm a casual gamer, I've played since launch and my main (warrior) is only just about to hit 30. I obviously can only base my opinion on the content I've seen. If you like the same things I like then i'd say choose VG, or the station pass. But, if I were you I'd wait the 3 weeks until the server merge. I suspect there will be alot of new characters rolled , and the increase in server population will be a massive plus .

ok you want my honest opinion here.
I would return it back to the store and get EQ2 if that was the only other option you was looking at. I would however keep an eye on Vanguard (but i fear it is going to be several months before this game could get turned around), with the bad release and bad publicity it has had both from reviews (4.5 out of 10 being the best of 4 reviews, 3/10 being the worst and 4/10 from 2 other places), Bad/Poor word of mouth from x-vanguard players (some of which stuck up for the game) but even soem of those have left for better pasture's.
Me i lasted just under a month. Don't get me wrong, this game had some very nice idea's with the game, it brought something new, but i wouldnt waste my time on it at this present moment. Maybe after several months have passed over this game will be worth another look. For now exchange it for EQ2.
But in the end it really comes down to YOUR choice, all we can do is let you know, you are the one who has to make the final decision.
Ok. You wish to have a MATURE and HONEST oppinion.
I feel you will like VG it has a LOT to offer, but it is for a MATURE player. IF you want PvP I do not recommend it since once the server merges take place it will be FFA. This will make that aspect of the game nearly imposible to play since you need crafted items and crafting is in itself its own game you could say and getting killed in the middle of working on something will make it where crafting is impossible.
IF you want PvE you will enjoy the game if you are a MATURE player. This is not a game for those who enjoy WoW it is more thoughful in how you play it. If you want click and kill then this is not your game. You have to think through your fighting as well as your questing. With the amount of content there is and there honest is a lot you will have all of your character slot full in no time just to explore all the different areas you can get quests in. I myself just spent the last week doing the Unicorn mount quest (questing can take time like this one did).
At this time there is no endgame content but it is in the works.
Crafting like I said is in itself its own game. You have to think it through again it is not a click and make situtation.
Also there is the Diplomatic route which is a card game. This is designed to open up other quests for adventuring and crafting within the game but in itself can get you some good amounts of gold.
So if you desire challenging thought provokeing game then VG is for you.
A MMO is like life. It is something to cherish and enjoy upon in it journey. So why race to the end of it. In life at the end you die.
You've already chosen, you've bought Vanguard and even though the world (reviews, users, magazines, word of mouth, company history) tell you to keep FAR AWAY for now, you chose to play it. I can tell by the way you initially adressed issues that MIGHT come up when judging vanguard.
If you listen to anyone - what you most obviously don't do because theres "something" in the Vanguard marketing that adresses you too much for a reasonable approach - i can tell you: DON'T GET VANGUARD !
Have fun there though, will be hard enough to find even without my good wishes.

EQ2 is a good game, stable, few real bugs. You wont find any virtual world like vanguard has. If you PC can handle it, then Telon can be very immersive.
I own both EQ2 and Vanguard and subscribe with a station pass. Currently I play EQ2 mostly because I have an older system (still within VG's system requirements though) and VG runs a little too slow and chunky in its current state. Once Vanguard undergoes some optimization, I think I will switch over to making it my main MMO.
In the meantime, I am enjoying my EQ2 experience, and SOE has improved the game immensely since initial release. It's a good time over all, and very addicting with a ton of content to keep me busy.
And even though I enjoy EQ2, I find myself drawn to VG more because I feel it has a bit more of an open feel and environment, and I really like some of the unique classes. I also like diplomacy and I think I prefer the crafting system in it better too.
Knowing what I know now, I would go back in time and wait to buy Vanguard. I ignored the red flags I saw in beta and bought it anyway and I'm sorry I did. That's not to say that once PotBS comes out I won't get the Station Pass and check things out to see if VG has improved any.
In a nutshell, so long as you've resisted the urge to open the box, take it back, buy it again down the road when it's cheaper.
I bought EQ2 a while back and could never get into it. I'm pretty flakey when it comes to MMO's. I played DAoC and WoW for several years but haven't really been able to get into another mmo otherwise. That being said, I recently picked up a buddy key for Vanguard and I love it. I haven't commited to buying it yet but it really seems like my type of game. Lots of stuff to do but nothing is really forced. Some of the ideas in the game are great. I have literally spent hours just playing in the diplomacy system, and it certainly didn't feel like a grind. Maybe I'm just not seeing it yet but I haven't really found any problems with the game other then the occational bug or glitch.
my 2c
I just broke down and bought Vanguard a few days ago myself. I was hesitant because of the performance issues I'd been reading about. I don't have a current top of the line PC although it is decent. The reason I decided to go ahead and take the plunge is that it seemed most (not all mind you) of the performance issues were with PC's that used Dual/Multicore processors and/or Windows Vista. Since I used neither of those but still met or exceeded the reccomended requirements I decided it was worth the risk.
I have to say I'm happy thus far with the decision. Although I'll be the first to admit that it may just be the newness factor. I'm gonna switch over to the Station Access myself later since I have practically all the SOE games on the same account. That will give me some variety if I need it later.
Right now I'm playing a Psionicist, Blood Mage, and Necro. I kind of stumbled into Diplomacy. Wasn't really planning on getting much into then started and it got a bit addicting. Haven't done any crafting yet but have done some harvesting, and it may seem like a small thing but I kind of like that when you chop down a tree it actually falls over. It actually made me want to yell TIMBER!!!
Well here's hoping that if you give it a try that you find it enjoyable as I have so far.
Just 1 thing about station access i don't quite get. Why would someone want to pay £30 a month to play all of their games (as long as you have bought the original games) to play? I mean, you can only ever play 1 game at a time anyways and the jump from £9.49 to play the one you want for that month to me seems much more reasonable than paying £30 a month to play all that you own (could only be 2 titles (cost £18.98) if you pay for both singularly) still working out at £11.01 less.
I knew somone who payed for Station access but only owned EQ2, i asked him why, but he didnt give me an answer. Still, to me SA is a waste of time and another give us your money for no proper bonus's. I just don't get it why people do it? At the end of the day i would rather pay 9.49 to play and get the same deal as someone who pays for SA, only differance is i am saving £20.50 a month on the deal.
Well uhm one day you play this game and next day you play another game... Or you switch instantly because you felt like you wanted to.
You know alot of people spend some hours there and some hours there thay don't spend. People have different needs. I for instance could play Vanguard for a couple of hours one day and spend one hour in SWG, next day I maybe only spend two hours in SWG. You know different needs different people. Not everyone have to spent all avaible time doing one thing playing one game. Some play a game that they think is fun and often more then one game is actually fun.
No I'm not on station access and tha guy with one game, well dont see any good reason for him either. Unless he realle craved for extra character slots or so.
You know what, just in paranthesis, I didn't play any game yesterday. How that for loosing money subscribing to online games and not play for a full day. (Try really hard to understand my point here)
I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.
"You have the right not to be killed"
AMD 3500 rig. I play on balance settings with about 20-30 fps. Game looks and plays great.
I don't know anything about gameplay in EQ2 , but I know that if one likes a big open world with tons of sand box style gameplay....one should love playing Vanguard.
The performance issues have been..and continue to be ...greatly exaggerated. Lag and stutter are nearly non existant with 2 gb of ram or more. I seldom crash...maybe once or twice for every 20-50 hours online. I know many in my guild who complained about performance issues found out they actualy had numerous browser / malware issues that had nothing to do with the game or it's client.
I suspect ..especially early on...that those with the latest gear had less than desireable performance. It is my understanding that much of this has been fixed now. Those on Vista and running the latetest Gpu's are running on high quality with 40-80 fps now....based on some casual talking around I've done with friends playing the game.
I have also played EQ2. It is by far the better game. It is well developed, stable, and has something for everyone. If you want to raid, you can raid. (I hate raiding but realize it should be an option.) If you want to go in a solo instance, you can do that too. If you want a bajillion quests of all sorts of variety, its there too. EQ2 is really just a feature-packed game, and if anyone came to me saying "Vanguard or EQ2?" I'd have to direct them to EQ2.
You are such a total liar Thamoris. Literaly 10's of thousands of people tried and quit Vanguard because of the shitty performance, and you know it. Sigil made some minor efforts to improve performance and SOE has plans to improve performance, but it hasnt happened yet. You need to quite blowing smoke dude you are coming across as an idiot.
Eq2 is a great Stable well performing game. Join a guild or bring a buddy though.
