Confirmed MMORPG.com: Retrospectic will never play exclusive online games for Playstation 3
Just mentioned in this post. Retrospectic will never play an MMORPG that is exclusive to a console. He refuses to buy what amounts to another computer for no other reason that wasting a television to play a game that will not let him alt-tab to the website which helps him enjoy the game, or the forums where he can complain about the game on.
In other news.... you can now download the new exclusive Metal Gear Solid 4 E3 2007 HD trailer in the Playstation Network store today. Things like this made me glad i drop 6 benjamin franklins for the PS3.
$600 for a trailer!
ROCK ON!!
Well it's for the games per se.. the trailers are kinda like the appetizers to whet your appetite just before the main course.
Games I'm waiting for:
PS3
- Lair
- Heavenly Sword
- Metal Gear Solid 4
- Final Fantasy XIII
- Assassin's Creed
- Star Wars: Force Unleashed
Xbox360
- Blue Dragon
- Fable 2
- Mass Effect
Assassins creed is also for xbox-360 and lair is to and i think Star Wars: Force Unleashed
Assassin's Creed and SW:FU are on the 360. Lair is PS3 only and the main reason I still own a PS3.

--------------- Tested over a 115+ games since 1997.
Also, in the age old Playstation vs. Nintendo debate I always seem to enjoy the games on Nintendo 100 times more than Playstation. Oddly I own a PS2 and no Gamecube.
This would be interesting...... I will probably wait to see more information about the online games for PS3 by NCSoft before I actually buy the thing.... But this in my opinion is a good news.
So they are going to make MMO's for the 18 people who have the PS3?
Last time I checked PSN has over 950,000 users. I'm pretty sure 950K+ people is worth making games for.
Read this article. It's an insider look at the gaming industry and looks at the hard numbers behind the games. In doing so, it makes it pretty clear why developing for the PS3 alone is a bad idea.

What I would like to see is an MMORPG that was created for PC, Mac, XBox 360, PS3, and Wii. The only MMORPG I know about that is console only is EVERQUEST ONLINE ADVENTURES. Has anyone even heard a peep out of that game since it was released?

EQOA by far had the fewest bugs of any MMO i played wich is weird..lol never had server maintanance either i can count on one hand how many times the server went down in the 2 years i played it.
and i'm sure some one will say about a console being "infested with kids" EQOA also has the maturest comminity i ever gamed with and is the ONLY MMO i played with absolutely 0 gold farmers. the most i seen was some one that couldn't find a game card where they lived looking to buy one with in game money.
I don't play it anymore tho but it was alot of fun when i did its deffinitly a grinder probably the biggest reason you don't see immature little kids they just don't have the attention span to stick it out..lol
I am looking forward to seeing a console only game for PS3, would be great if it was EQOA 2 but i don't see NCsoft making an everquest game for Sony..lol

That number is simply 950K users that have signed on the PSN. I am pretty sure that the PS3 has more than 950K in the number of units sold so far. All that article writes about is the cost of game developement which is a lot higher than 10 years ago. Back in 1998 an AAA game might cost $2-3million to develop. Nowadays the same AAA game would cost $30-50 million.

Actually there is 1.3 million users that have signed on the PSN. That being said any person can sign up for it. You don't even have to have a PS3 to sign up for an account. Also one person can have as many accounts as they want.

You can sign up for a FREE account for the PSN website and access the forums. You can't directly access the PSN content without a PS3 (which requires a PSN sign in). According to Sony they announced they hit 2 million registered on yesterday's E3 Sony conference.
The problem with measuring PSN users is that SOny wont release how many of their members are actually using the service... Like how many copies of Calling all Cars were sold? 100k? 200k? 20k? 500k? We have no idea. Whereas when people sign up for live gold you know they are willing to shell out money for online games and downloadable content...
950k as someone said or even 2 million is a terrible amount of people to base a games userbase.... computer games target audiences of hundreds of million of people and yet still only get a few hundred thousand subscribers...

By the time you are done limiting your userbase your going to have one TINY gaming community and not enough sales/subscriptions to keep it afloat.
I believe that NCsoft went with the PS3 mainly because every one of them has a hard drive.
I little off topic, but i have a bit of a quandry. Right now is a pretty good time to buy a PS3. The new 80 GB versions coming out in the fall will not have the emotion engine chips, and I expect that eventually both versions will lack the chip. In other words if you want to get a PS3 that's fully backwards compatible with PS2 and PS1 games, you have to do it soon. The newer ones will be compatible with some gamees vi software emulation, but the support will be pretty spotty (at least of what's going on in Europe right now is anything to go by). In addition you get five or six free blue ray movies if you buy one at some retailers currently, which seems like a pretty good deal.
The only problem is that there isn't a single damn game out for it I really want. I would get Morrowind, but a better version of it is coming out in the fall. I'm pretty sure I'll want a PS3 eventually, but it seems a bit daft to drop five big ones on a console I'll barely use for the next year or so. The only thing I'd use it for right now is playing movies and farting around in Home.
So wait and risk not being able to buy one that's backwards compatible with my PS2 games (I have a shit ton), or get one now and have an expensive web browser attached to my TV for the next six months. I don't like my options.
I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.

I have a US-PS3 and I can hardly play any of my old PS2 games. Everyone I talk with says the exact same thing. And I work at GameStop so thats a lot of people. When you do find one that works it barely works. You will have some type of glitch thats for sure. Usually a graphic bug. But I have also experienced audio, hud, and controller bugs as well. My short list of games that don't work on the PS3. Any Tekken or GTA game has something wrong with them. Final Fantasy and Devil May Cry games just freeze after they load.
So after saying all that I would suggest you wait for the 80Gb. Cause in all honesty the emulation really can't get much worse.
--------------- Tested over a 115+ games since 1997.
Just mentioned at the E3 press conference. NCsoft will make games for Playstation network
are they considering porting any of their current games/MMO's to the PS?
I thought I would add that the price of the PS3 is dropping by $200 for the standard 60gb edition, and by $100 for the 80gb deluxe edition. This is gonna put the price of a standard PS3 in the same
if you ever wanted a blue-ray player, this is a steal if not for the PS3 itself
They said they will make games based on new IP's and existing IP's. I'm going to bet my money on a Playstation 3 port of Lineage 3.
IMHO, this isn't a bad idea a t all for NCsoft, its also a good idea for sony since they haven't been doing so hot on the gameing market. The PS3 isn't as bad as people say it is, it might be in last, but it is catching up with nintendo and 360, but imo it will never surpass them. In total sales, Nintendo is leading off and same with sony, while microsoft's sales are slowing down utterly. However, microsoft is lowering their prices to hopefully boosts sells, which it will. a rumored 100$ price drop will give the core a 200$ price tag, which is pretty good really.
Sony, however, is retarded, not in the fact that their makeing most of the games exclusive or time excluseive (MGS4 and FFXIII for example) but because of "how" they droped the price of their PS3. First off a 500$ price of the PS3 isn't a very good drop (compared to nintendo's AND microsofts price, this is still way to high for common gamers). But the killing deal of this is that Sony is only droping the price for a temporary amount of time, (imho that is utterly lame)
and for NCsoft, its a great idea to take a head for sony due to their high gameing capability and free online play (i mean NCsoft did made Guild Wars, and i assume there going to make another F2P mmo) so it does work with them, that and SCEJ did pay them quite the bit to keep them on sony's consol. But, who knows where their going to be in a few years, if sony works their cards right they might just make it to next year with a good online gaming system, if not well, it was a good run lol.
