I can get a new console for roughly the same amount of money and I don't have to pay a penny extra for roughtly 6~ 7 years. you can't argue with that,
Aha problem is that even now after 1 years operation a console like the 360 is already 'out of date' hardware wise.
Show me one game, Just one, that is out on the PC now that looks as good as Gears of War.
the fact of the matter is that every Playstation 3 and Xbox360 is the same. While not every PC is a high end PC. Companies don't always use the latest PC technology because they know that the vast majority of people are not prepared to pay 500$+ for the latest video card.

Hardware for PC's may be more powerful after a year of operation of a console.. But games that take full advantage of that hardware and actually look BETTER than console games at the same point? thats a different thing entirely.. Not to mention the cost of constantly upgrading... If you actually want to GET the benefit of better looking games on the PC
What's your Wu Name? Donovan --> Wu Name = Violent Knight Methane47 --> Wu Name = Thunderous Leader "Some people call me the walking plank, 'cuz any where you go... Death is right behind you.." <i>ME<i>
But yea to the OP the problem with consoles is that the hardware doesant get better with time it stays the same unlike with PC's which are always cutting edge.

Thats why PC's will always be better.
"Yay now you spend thousands of dollars on a state of the art PC! Now which games are you going to buy that take advantage of these new features?"
"Welll...i'll buy...like...uhm.."
'nuff said. Hardware is one thing. but without software to take advantage of the hardware, its pointless.
Well, then, if all of you have such hard-ons for consoles, and you think pc gamers are, and I quote, "elitist douchebags", then what the fuck, exactly, are you all doing here? A site devoted to MMO's, which with less than a handful of exceptions are PC games. You know, the ones that playing makes you elitist douchebags?
Wouldn't your pro console circle jerk be better served on a site devoted to fellating consoles?

First off, take that attitude and snack on it.
Now, Draenors "elitist douchebags" quote was in refrence to people like the OP, who has seen to be comming off to be all "PC iz bezt and consuls r 4 kidz hew cant af0red 1, haloz sux 360 is nub and pc is leet".
I dont act like that, I havnt seen Gameloading acting like that. How about yourself? Do you?

Also, for the record...I play PC games, I realize that the PC is better for certain types of games (pretty much just RTS actually) but like Spath said, people like the OP piss me off because they act like the PC is just far and away better for all gaming and that somehow people who use consoles are just cretins who can't afford PC's...guess what, if I wanted to, I could go out and buy a top of the line PC today..but I don't, because in 6 months it wouldn't be top of the line and I would need to upgrade it.
The difference between that and a console? A console has a life cycle of around 6 years. That's 6 years with one purchase, assuming no break downs, which, to be fair, occur from time to time with consoles...of course, that cost is completely off set and made up for by the amount of maintinence and upgrading that any PC requires.
All in all, consoles offer a much more cost effective means to play games. PC's, while better at some things, will ALWAYS be less accessable for playing games, for the simple reason of cost...and like someone already said...yes, you could get a top of the line PC for 1000 dollars if you "know the right place to look" unfortunately for that logic, most people don't want to go around shopping for all the rights parts in order to put together a PC, most people don't know how. ANd I know, that makes them stupid jerk faces who don't deserve to live, but it's the truth. Consoles will ALWAYS be more accessable to the main stream gamer.
Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.
One thing that is never fair in the PC Vs Console comparison is pricing. People always quote how cost effective buying a console is. And yes it is cheaper then getting a PC, but not that much cheaper. And on top of it you need a TV to play it on. So technically the TV is part of the cost of your Console System.
I built my total PC package and got a monitor for under 800 Dollars. It isn't top of the line, but it doesn't need to be. I can play LOTRO on max settings, I can play EQ2 on the second to highest settings, I can play WoW on Max settings, and that is pretty much all I have played since building my new PC.
Currently playing: LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)
Looking Foward too: Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)
A TV is part of your price on a console? Uhhh no...do you own a PC? Do you also own a TV? Okay then. How many people do you know that don't own TV's? Everybody already has a TV prior to getting a console, the purchase of a TV is never dependant on whether or not you own a console.

And pretty much everyone in America has a PC already too. In most cases the only change they would need to make to their PC to be able to play PC games on it is to purchase a graphics card. And not the best top of the line one either, usually around 150 dollar one.
That PC with their 150 dollar Graphics card will allow them to play games for at least 3-5 years. Yes they might not be able to play the newest games at the best settings, but then again a console that is 3-5 years old is going to look pretty crappy as well compared to what the best current graphics are.
So if we won't consider a TV as part of the gaming console system, then you can't consider the PC as part of the gaming PC system. And you need to compare a graphics card (and maybe more RAM) to the price of a Console.

I never got the whole console vs. pc war. The reason I prefer the PC is because I like the kinds of games that play well on it. I love RTS and FPS, and I far prefer the keyboard mouse setup to a controller. If I liked the kinds of games that were on consoles then I'd play consoles mostly instead. I don't see where the animosity should lie.

That's a very good point. Everyone has a PC so you really just need a little more RAM(if your computer only cost $400) and a vid card.
And you don't need to upgrade every 6 months. If you bought a top of the line vid card today ti would probably be able to play all the games through 08 on highest settings. And would certainly be able to play games for 5+ years not on highest settings. My computer I use for gaming now is almost 4 years old and the video card in it was over a year old when I bought it. I can play BF2 (even though I technically shouldn't be able to), CS:S, Dark Messiah, and probably any PC game out right now. I don't even have to play with really low settings in CS:S and Dark Messiah (given they do both use the source engine). The only thing I have upgraded is my memory and that cost less than $50. This computer cost me $800 but, I could have saved money had I known what I was doing back then.
I thought it was funny the nvidia 8800 cards launched around the same time as the ps3 an were already better than the GPU in the ps3. Compare Crysis to Killzone 2. Crysis is obviously better and it is launching before Killzone 2. So less than a year into the ps3 lifespan and the best it can throw up is already beaten. Given that it could still have a little better graphics in the future but, I think it will still be less than Crysis and if they do get as good as Crysis it won't be for 4 years.
I don't dislike consoles but, I do recognize that they are greatly inferior. I own a ps3 and plan to buy a 360 in a couple months. Games are a different story for the time being. All this talk is just about graphics which don't really count for shit when it comes down to it. Are there a difference in the games? Well considering there hasn't been a good game out in almost 5 years I would say they are tied for the time being. I think Spore and LittleBigPlanet will be the first good games in 5 years. One is on a console and one is on PC so I guess the quality of games are still going to be a tie for awhile. I guess there is a slim chance PotBS could turn out to be good too.

Unless you have an HDTV all games look better on a PC. With HDTV gears of War would be fairly typical for a PC game. Since keyboard/mouse is vastly better for any game other then Wii sports PC games still walk away with an easy win.

I usually play Gears of War on a standard def TV...and yeah, it looks better than most PC games. And Keyboard/mouse isn't vastly better, that's a matter of your own opinion...I happen to prefer a gamepad for many types of games, I find that it's much more conducive to over the shoulder games like Gears of War, as well as other, more stealthy type games. A PC capable of playing today's games cost the same as most TVs. You are vastly underestimating the amount of PCs in American homes. Heck my boss doen't even have Cable TV (he is a chaplain) but his PC would be capable of playing Games with an extra 100-200 dollars spent.

The amount of people that have a PC in america that capable of being upgraded to today standards is much, much smaller then the amount of people that own a TV

A PC capable of playing today's games cost the same as most TVs. You are vastly underestimating the amount of PCs in American homes. Heck my boss doen't even have Cable TV (he is a chaplain) but his PC would be capable of playing Games with an extra 100-200 dollars spent.
Currently playing:
LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)
Looking Foward too:
Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)
