The 5/100 ranking requirement acts more like a waiting period to buy a firearm. If someone is posting a link to urge hundreds of people to come hype up a game they have to create an account and basically come back in 24-48 hours to hype or review a game (ranks are generated only once daily). Although people can still get around this if they really want to cheat by going through the motions - odds are that most will not waste their time to create multiple accounts and log each of them in until they get the 5 ranking...if they do have this kind of devotion then I guess they earned it!
I apologize for the forums...they are still a work in progress. Unlike most webmasters I prefer to hand-code everything and don't like "canned" code - including my forums. There actually is a new version being constructed on our development server that should be released in a month or two with many new features.
You may not like our hype system but from what I have gathered most people like it. It gives them an at a glance view at what games are most sought after. Since many fans do a lot of research on the games out there is does tend to yield good results of what games are most anticipated.
No doubt this has happened MANY times on MANY forums...and that is why we did what we did tonight. It wiped out a lot of bogus votes that have been happening for over a year...1250 votes to be exact.

Mir3 is a very good game of this I have no doubt. Many here (possibly due to being a young :P ) think o_0 its not 3d I don't like it which is rather sad really. How many of the current mmorpg crop have had a great 3d engine made for them but no real work done on the pvp system, checking for bugs or frankly adding some depth to a game. Being 3 dimensional does not infact give a game depth.
As for the who's running it well I have more questions than most and a greater understanding than most saying "omg its ex mir 2players etc" and frankly the annoying whiners are annoying the frell out of me lol. No one is probably more disliked by definetly 2 possibly 3 of the directors and I'm still prepared to give it a go although I'll be seriously questioning and keeping an eye on everything lol.
As for the reduction in hype I think it was reduced too much although it should have been reduced. For one lets be honest what happened here clearly happens with every other game here just that on tf you could find people admitting to it and thats pretty much a given. Those who did multiple vote or rate other games in the top5 down where a small minority of that I'm sure and those who did vote 10 (myself included) were justified in doing so as it has the potential to be the best mmorpg out there regardless of fancy graphics and I think it is the second biggest mmorpg in the world lom2 being the first for number of players. This due to the eastern market btw but lets be honest all the best morpgs are made there and are made for what most peeps want pvp and a good game engine.
So what can I say it did deserve to be reduced or the voting problem dealt with but certinaly not by as much as it was tbh also the people voting against it for no reason should have had their votes removed too.
We did not "reduce the score of Mir3" or any game directly. We simply purged all hypes from people who have only visited this site one time and voted a 1 or 10 on ANY game in the past year or more.
This affected every game on our list. Some games such as RageKage, Aspereta and others were affected even more that Mir3 was.
This problem is not a new one...it was just really put in the spotlight yesterday.

Yes sorry I've read your sticky on it now, I guess it was reasonably fair it is just a shame that so many who did vote have met the criteria to be deleted, still I did warn people on tf to behave themselves but sadly we have picked up a large number of the official mir2 forums community recently and they are well every bit as bad as what this forum is accused of lol.
Oh well people will just have to make a few posts and get rank 5 and then hopefully rating the game a 10 (which it kinda deserves as long as the person could justify their reasons sensibly lol) and it should move back up the ratings.
Yep. I have even written the webmaster of TF and encouraged him to have the fans over there express their love of their game...now that we can stop the cheating (or most of it).
I know many people are going to hate us for this - and that is unavoidable. I really do care about trying to keep things fair here and let the fans know that I was not targeting their favorite game (that is why I am still up at 3am trying to answer everyones questions)
Because so many games took a fall - I am going to hear all kinds of gripes tommorrow...from many more people than Mir3 fans
I am prepared though - we went through this already with our review system about 6 months back...I just wish at that time I had gone ahead with putting the same checks in the hype system. Ah - hindsight is 20/20 as they say

I am a big Mir3 fan but also I love this site too. I think you have struck the right balance upon fairness and it shouldn't be long before Mir3 creeps back up the charts.
Well good luck with dealing with the gripe but just take my advice and only reply or acknowlege those who at least attempt to use a bit of spelling, grammar and lack of txt typ in their posts and you should whittle the compaints down in no time :P
And indeed mir3 fans should make a few posts at least then rate the game, however I am worried in general what kind of opinion people will form of us when the majority of them open their mouths

So what difference does it make if all the TF users come over here, post just enough times to be able to vote, then vote 10 for a game, then never come back, to what it was before these so called "fair" tweaks??? Besides the small fact that you stand to gain a whole lot of users from it, with what appears to be very little concern for a game which so far hasn't given you any advertising revenue???
I've said this before, i've been a regular viewer here for as long as this site has been around, i've seen what it started at and what it has become. I simply never signed up before because i've never needed to and because i've never had the inclination of joining a community which seems to be based around a bunch of very biased people who all seem to get pleasure from flaming each others favourite games. I've witnessed no end of private server chat on these forums and have even gone so far as to point it out to you, yet a few of my users pay a visit and add what is a minute amount of hype (in comparison to the various other games) to the game they are looking forward to and all they get in return is treatment like this..... If anything you should be bloody thankful that they've allowed you to see a great big hole in your system, which has with your latest tweaks been far from fixed...
In fact all you have actually done is made it a whole lot easier for all your "regulars" to flame the game, give it bad hype and potentially damage the reputation of a game that hasn't even hit closed beta yet... While making it impossible for people to put any defence at all up for the game unless they join your community and be like the regulars... Flaming like crazy for no other reason than to get a rank which allows them to then defend their favourite game and flame every other game...
Almost every single one of those hypes from yesterday were completely genuine, besides one, maybe two at the most... You would have probably gained a fair few decent, friendly and regular users out of it too, but all you've done is taken the easy route out and basically decided to hold people to ransom... Well, if that's the way it is to be I will do my utmost to make sure my users steer well clear of here in future...
Hmmm, saw the locked thread on TF forum and wondered what the hell was going on. Read here and can't believe how this happened.
I'm amazed that the situation has never arisen before. I'm also surprised that, given the system in palce for ranking games, the same system wasn't in place for hyping games, especially as they listed in the same place on your site.
Det, I think you've over reacted. MMORPG admins, I think you seriously need to look at how many of the the 10 votes for LoM3 (and 1 votes elsewhere) are likely to have been serious abuse of the hype system. The same should go for the other games.
I suggest that you might wish to look at a system where you require a minimum level of justification for any votes give (both in hype and in rating). That sort of method is less open to abuse because it requires greater effort from the voter. Admittedly, it requires more work on the admin/moderator front too.
Anyway, I shall continue to frequent both forums, continue to play LoM2 (by the way the current listed game IS LoM2, not LoM as you have it, which never came out in English language) and EQ, and eagerly await the arrival of EQ II and LoM3.

Review sites are part of larger media serving the interest of the local market. It's mass media macro-economic 101.
If it serves well the interest of local market, they will give good mark, if it doesn't they will give bad mark.
Review & marks are in general next to meaningless !!! Get that straight.
It's like soap opera. They will change the script whenever the public start to complain. They always try to say what others want to hear. Otherwise no one would like to read them or visit their site.
It's in the nature of media to be biased.
Asking to be otherwise is pointless and futile.
If you really want to be objective about anything in scientific/analytic fashion, not only do you have to be able to quantify the non-quantifiable, but also provide all the irrevocable proof that every quantifiable elements of the entity was present at the time of evaluation and are independent from 3rd source of interest.
Det it's not that bad I have a rank of 24 well over 5 and that was within what one post maybe 2. Although peronally I don't think thats enough to stop people making multiple accounts to vote, I cant say. But it doesnt really gain them much more than 2 posts.
But I don't feel anything the staff said on tf was that bad tbh, although there is nothing wrong with informing people who have been waiting for ei over 2 years on mir2 that they can now go rate teh game a 10 is it ? A suggestion is not an order and the game does deserve it. The only thing you should have been despairing about is the people who were bragging about multiple voting and rating other games down. Which im sure people from the other games do sadly. Or worse people who would hype up games like wow or well before they were released l2 or ffx1 soely because of the name and no real understanding of the game :P
I do think the handbags between the forums need to be put away though tbh.
I also don't think to be honest mmorpg.com have greatly upset anyone with any sense (other than det but thats forum owner guys thing going on).

You are completely right, perhaps I am over reacting and being selfish in my view point and that this is all being blown out of proportions...
But at the same time I feel a major injustice has been done here and that a harmless and friendly thread which was intended as nothing more than to benefit both mmorpg.com and TF has been turned and used against me and the TF users for no apparent reason other than for us to be used as scape goats for the hype systems own short falls.
I was certainly not to know that there was major flaws in the hype system here at mmorpg.com as I have never used it before to the best of my knowledge and bar the one maybe 2 users that did abuse the system, none of the TF users had any intention or plan to disturb the peace or break any of this communties rules and bar the same one or two TF users, none of those votes were cast in any other way than those acceptable...
I do understand you are under a lot of stress atm det it's pretty much understandable, and well had htey seriously questioned tf in anyway you know I would have been the first to reduce this forum to a pile of smoudering discussion threads.
The tf thread was hardly repsresentitive of the tf community at large in the multiple voting thing and perhaps the way we got to be the ones to precipitate this was unfortunate. However as said all they need are like 2 posts more than one line replies. So all thats needed to be done is a polite threa don tf explaining this to them (also how to set the cookies to keep you logged in helps too :P as I found it anoying) and to inform them they are now free to vote for mir3 as they honestly believe it should be ranked.
I just hope the staff here at mmorpg.com don't take the fact that the game will eb rated 10 by almost every fan, who has kept discussing this game frankly for 3 years. And take this paragraph as a reply to the person asking why it deserves so much hype.
Well frankly nearly every recent rpg has been horrible made, with all attentiont to graphics and flashy looking spells to attract the kinda new consumer teen market to them like magpies. Whereas mir3 harks back to a time when the game system, controls and especially pvp and chat where the most crucial parts of a game allowing a strong sense of community and fun to be had. As frankly pvp in 3d games in uncomfrtable and lacks that duelists style to be honest. So all fans of games of this ilk (yes people who still appreciate gameplay over graphics do exist) have had to struggle for 3 years with a company who's attitude, ability and record are despicable and have now been told from no where with no hope of ever seeing this delayed game its been signed in a multimillion pound deal and is going ot be given an unprecidented (uk wise) scale of advertising and support. So from the perspective of fans of the genre and rp'ing/good pvp in general it does deserve a 10 unquestionably. As long as the person voting appreciates these facts anyway.
Originally posted by fulmanfu I saw that Legend of Mir3 burst into the top 5 on the hypemeter.. And i have to ask you guys, why? There wasn't even much hype for LoM when it came out 5 years ago, and this is jus rereleasing the same game It's the same game, same monsters, same graphics, same maps, same skills as the LoM released 5 years ago, with basicly just horses and some high lvl content added. This is called 'patching' not a whole new game. someone tell me what the reason for the hype?
Ok, the reason why those of us that play and greatly enjoy Mir2 are so "hyped" about LoM3 is that we recognise how good a potential game Mir2 is, let down a lot by the server stability and customer support provided by the hosting company.
LoM3 retains the initial simplicity of the gameplay in Mir2 and the potential variety of playing styles and player interaction. It complements these with a tweaked engine, better graphics and customisation and more varied creatures and skills. However, the key to the hype is the prospect of superior server stability and customer support. THe game will succeed or fail on this alone.
People that don't like Iso won't play this game but those that are happy to play Iso games will find a very enjoyable and deep game.
As for your comments about being the same game with some high level content added, that is a very "old" view of things. The game retains the same basic areas and monsters as Mir2 v1.5 (Mir2 is now at 1.8 in Europe) true, but even some of those areas are broken down into more maps rather than the single maps they were in Mir2. The overall map area is 12 times that of Mir2. Since Mir2 v1.5, LoM3 and Mir2 have diverged and gone their own ways.
The whole point is that, yes, LoM3 is based on Mir2 but it has the potential to be everything that the previous version should have been.
That's only a temp guide while I build the proper one.
The game is approaching closed beta soon. Estimates for open beta are August, but obviously nasty bugs may delay that slightly and cause it to be put back, but I can't see that happening.
At the moment there is no demo or anything available, but it's all happening very quickly and who knows what's around the corner.
I am a big fan of Mir3, and I think what mmorpg did was fair. But it should have been done a long time ago.
This problem has been around for a long time now. I think the only reason why mmorpg.com put this in place now is because Mir3 is a 2d game and its in the top 5.
In my opionion I think Mir3 is the best mmorpg. Better than eq2 or wow. I have played over 8 mmorpg since I quited Mir2. And none including Lineage 2 and FF11 came close to what mir2 was like.I am sure that WoW and EQ2 wont be as good either just base on all the games i have played before.
Ppl who dont know much about this game should just try it out and see if you like it or not. You will regret it if u dont because it might be the best game u ever play. And just ignor idiots who just give stupid comments like thsi game is like Diablo and all the other crap.
I have been a member for a while now, and this site is the best to get info on any mmorpg games. But the forums are poor.

Hey I see catapults in castle siege. Are they player driven?
How many unit(s) can you control in this game at once?

New skills, new spells over 150 different mobs(which are not the same mob with a different name like KO) new items new quests, decent control system unlike lineage2 which has the poorest control system ever.
The only reason people seem to dislike this game is simply because it is 2d iso, if people had actually played the game they might understand how good it is, i can't understand why people "diss" a game when they have not played them!
eh just a litlle something for those of you bsing about that "they played pservers". Ive played korean mir for 3 months, then I tried out a pserver, I was bored, shortly, pservers totally suck compared to official games. The charm of mir3 is that you do things in large groups, not only groups of 2 people, 3 people, 10 people but also groups of 50 people. That includes hunting, and pvp, castle wars rock.
Seriously pservers suck compared to the official game, play the official game and if the service sucks fine then go on about ur pservers, but dont play a pserver before you tried out the official game!!
oh and for the admin, I dont get why you are so pissed off that people come to this site for the first time to vote. Then they see other things aswell, other games, and the charms of this site, and they might appriciate it and come again..

I have to admit I don't know how catapults work in Mir3 as they were added after the end of the Korean beta (which I played), thats one of the things I'm looking forward to finding out lol
I know as a Sorcerer that you can have 3 pets at the same time....these included pets that can Poison, Paralyse and even Cast magical spell attacks like a Lightning bolt....

You are not real John Crichton. Are you?
That depends do you mean am I the real astronut John Crichton posting from moia ? and hte most good looking guy on the planet.
Or the sexually perverse misanthrope from the tf forums ? Who's an ugly ugly mofo.

WoW !!! Awesome.
Is this game in Beta?
How can I try this game?
WoW !!! Pretty Good.

How can I try this game?
