I don't understand how combat is worse in this game versus any other MMO.
I wouldn't say it's worse. I just think all MMO's have boring combat.
It's more then just "combat". There's a lot to do with the risk Vs reward. Problem is that there is no risk in SWG since the nge.
I've never been too much into twitch based games. I had enjoyed an occasional skirmish in UT2004 and even played a little BF2.
I am playing Dungeon & Dragons Online and I think it has the absollute best combat system currently availble in online games. It plays like how the nge was supposed to although DDO is superbly better. Irronically there's also no true risk vs reward in DDO yet the balanced game play makes up for it and yeilds fun and interesting adventrures.
For all of you who are truely enjoying SWG it would be a good experiance to try out the 10 day trial of DDO. Do it just to get a taste for a tactical combat system. It's fun although the game does not appeal to a lot due to initial lack of "vastness" to the game.
2. There is no point to crafting anymore. Nothing breaks. That was one of my biggest appeals to the game. I loved the crafting. !. the PvE combat is far too difficult now. I know they recently incresed it, but it isnt fun. I was getting incapped left and right by 2 mobs 6 levels below me. It shouldnt even be a challenge at that point. Why is it difficult? i mean i can not imagine
2. Crafting is pointless because there's no failed craft attempts anymore? Well that would make crafting pointless in most mmo's out there...
I think he's saying that because there is no decay, crafting is pointless. In Classic SWG you had to replace your weapons and armor every so often, because decay, even with repair kits available, would eventually wear your gear out. Thus an ongoing market for crafters. SWG NGE eliminated decay and made loot drop weapons superior to crafted weapons, so there's no need for weaponscrafters any more.
CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.
No you're not You played the game but you can't be VETS cause sorry they don't play MMORPG only to compete with others, they play mmorpg to join eachother. They not the jalouze type that look at others what they have, A VET can make his own fun and is involved with the community, only if you unable to socialize in a mmorpg would things like GRIND/BORED excist, and like you have shown many times, JALOUZY Sad thing we see this more and more , people unable to socialize ingame and they truly seem to think that lvling is all there is to a game like SWG, how can someone who plays like that calls himself a VET LOL Now when people are capable to mix in with the community instead of being jalouze at the community the game is lots of fun, there is grind if you limit yourself to one type of playstyle, but those more true gamers with passion for mmorpg arn't like that, its those ELitist that have a hard time dealing with MMORPG's like SWG. Again on does not have to like every game that is out there, but constant bring silly stuff that just does not fit mmorpg playstyle is just not right and then to see people so-called calling themselfs VET as they can't even behave like a VET makes me wonder why those people even play mmorpgames. Its truly amazing that a so-called VET even talks about a grind of 6 months , i mean how sad of a player you must be to limit one self to sucha limited playstyle in a mmorpg, trust me in no way a true VET Let me be arogant and YES i feel i'm more of a VET but mainly cause i HAVE PASSION for mmorpg unlike most (not all) wann-be Vets on the disgrunted side of this forum that don't seem to care about this genre.
shush you silly person. its called appeal, content and gameplay. SWG fails in all areas. socializing isnt everything, who in their right mind would pay 10$ a month for a chatroom
Maybe a few do but i wasn't talking about a chatbox, I was talking about SWG, you see limited minds can only think limited things meaning you consider socializing a chatbox, i see socializing as becoming a part of galaxie, helping others, talking to others, doing things together, you know socializing, to bad your socialize skils seems to be stuck to not futher then a chatbox. seeing your limited response
Helping others with what? Doing what things with others? This is my point... SWG is lacking in all areas. Just because you find the community to be great and feel you're a big part of it doesnt make this a great game as such. You are right that being part of the community should be a greater part of any mmorpg, I agree. But this alone is no reason to play SWG in my opinion coz unless you get a boner from all things starwarsy (and iconic ) any other game will provide what you're looking for, and better.
*edit* If you got RL friends playing that's another story, luckily I dont coz all mine left during CU, thank god*

Helping others with what? Explaining how some features work ingame, talking to people where they could go to get some items, helping others with quest, others helping me getting some resources, helping other because i have a playerrunshop with HONOST prices so newbs can enjoy parts of SWG that the BAZAAR limits them cause of hte overpriced items mostly on it.
Doing what things with others? Questing, fooling around, making fun, traveling to friends housing who had decorated their house, shop, guildhall, this is kinda my weeknights, afgcourse as a crafter that wants his shop to be full weeknights also spend allot of time at crafting, still have fun in chat during the lonely in my house craft trance, weekends i'm more of the quest/helper
This is my point... SWG is lacking in all areas. Just because you find the community to be great and feel you're a big part of it doesnt make this a great game as such.
But thats the difference NOT everyone sees things the same you see it different as for you you seem to care about other aspect of a game before it can be fun, for me a large part (actualy the most importent part) in a mmorpg depends on its community, And aslong a game isn't BROKE (like some pretend) thn i see no reason why not to enjoy it now, i have staid away a very long time for all what SOE has done in the past to the game, well i'm still sortof hte same person and i will not play a broken game or a game with no population thats why i play SWG currently again as many thingsa seem ot have been worked out, become better, performance is very very good (occasinal Warp is still here but other then that , evne my GF comp can handle it (64mb v.card LOL funny part is i even read some people playing SWG and complaing about lag, wel they must have a similair setup computer like my GF has lol), just like the community was there at pre-cu SWG what made the game have its magic. It never really was the game tho the skill trees and amount of proffesion certainly played a large part, but overall as with any mmorpg IT IS THE COMMUNITY, a game can be awesome but if the community sucks i don't care how good a game is. Sure there are more things that come to mind when playing a game bnut try to realize i'm speaking from the perspective of a trader who everyday opens his mailbox and sees lots of items sold in one of the 6 vendors standing, both Structeral and Engineer (my alt), Getting mail from newly made ingame friends, there are so many things that simple from my perspective do work quit nice, tho i hit occasionaly a bug or two with crafted items that don't work, like my droid-repair kits and some more small items(already reported) But like i said i'm a socializer, tho i do solo much as a crafter you don't always have to much choice if you want to have a fully stocked shop You are right that being part of the community should be a greater part of any mmorpg, I agree. But this alone is no reason to play SWG in my opinion coz unless you get a boner from all things starwarsy (and iconic ) hehe don't worry m8 but lets be very honost here please but there isn't any other appealing MMORPG with a sci-fi setting for me, and yes my age playes a part as i grew up with SWG seen them in the cinema at release and no not talking about part 1/2 and with my age you tend to play games abit more relxing then i used to do when i was in my late 20's . There is only one game near to release and thats Tabula Rasa but quit frankly the more i SEE about that game the more i am certain its definitly not the scifi MMO i'm looking forward to i mean i played many really many FPS games and that is getting tiredsum tho i truly was hoping espeiclay seeing who is hte developer it would turn out something else, but i geusse the new gen.gamers really need fastpass action. Don't get me wrong i like fastpace but not for a MMORPG i mean thats a totaly different playstyle, and yes i know by fact that many will definitly love htat playstyle as some seem to know only that type of playstyle, when SWG hit it introduced me to a totaly different playstyle then i was used to, i'm mean i had my share of muds, tabletops ect ect but playing 3d games they mostly excisted out of FPS Single Players game , well SWG totaly changed my gamestyle. And like i said i feel i'm more like those people that play THE SIMS or SECOND LIFE, tho i'm not atracted by those game it is the way you can see me playing SWG, i'm not bound to quest/loot/gear, hell my Alt has not done one single quest, my main has done many but more for others.any other game will provide what you're looking for, and better. Name one? Recently beta'd LotrO wich is a very cool looking game great community but the mix with the game just didn't appeal to me, then there is Vangaurd , i did like but Sci-Fi always in any game just atracted me more then Fantasy based games. WoW been there liked it when i played but i stop playing the moment i don't have fun anymore and well i wasn't guilded as the kind people i met to get guilded with where to much into rainding and pvp, which isn't my thing anymore. Maybe because i'm a fun loving guy in rl
*edit* If you got RL friends playing that's another story, luckily I dont coz all mine left during CU, thank god* Most friends i had in SWG left during CU and some NGE there are a few still playing and we meeting again which is great and i even see more and more oldy's getting back, last night it seems Return of the VETS lol on farstar, i noticed lots and lots of Elders walking around.
Just remember people are different, people have different taste, because something isn't your taste (anymore) doesn't have to mean its like that for everyone, juts like i have fun in SWG doesn't make it fact that everyone now should have fun with it. Just be openminded and understand this, It can make the gaming community a much more fun place.
lets just agree to disagree then shall we community is a big part of any mmo yes. If you like starwars or sci-fi, then sure this game has some appeal aswell I guess. But lets not pretend its all that, coz it isnt, which shows in subscriptions I dont think anyone is stupid for liking starwars (lol) I'm just saying its not the game it could have been

Just to make sure for those who did not read :lots n lots =D and to make clear i was not pretending anything as seen with the following statement

But good we finaly got at this point of understanding

Fantastic reply m8 and also pretty decent of you to clear the smilly's i have put in the text so without the smilly's atleast it has more weight ...right
Now hope you have learned something from finding out what a vet is and maybe read my text again WITH the .......or try and read the next reply's of a topic, you might catch a thing or two that might have explained what it is i have meant. Could have saved you your ignorant responce
Well, to me this is senseless argueing. Obviously you all got your own opinions, likes, and dislikes. I personally liked the way SWG was back in the day, but that flew by to fast, and those days are long gone. I don't intend to play Orginal SWG anymore. Well, basically all I have to say, is that, let the people who enjoy SWG for what it is now, play it. And for those that left, well I wish you luck in finding another interesting game which has asmuch diversity, and fun gameplay, as game use to be before. Or, Infact, just wait for True Galaxies, the SWG Emu that's going to hopefully be opened up sometime later this year, after the developer teams that are working on the game coding finish. Back to the good old days, Maybe this may be what some of you vets are looking for.
I recently came back (left due RL stuff but willing to go again) and I liked what I saw: new entertainer system, pet system, house claenup, etc but I cannot accomodate to the combat system. Even with changing settings (auto-target, etc) I need 3 hands in lots of combats. I have to heal, activate special attacks, runs, eat and drink, select target, change weapon, etc. I liked a lot the old system, less running and more chosing wisely your attacks and energy mangement. Now it's...too fast and too cumbersome. Neither is a pleasant to viewing and the old combat system was very smooth and nice just to see. I saw lots of new players leaving due combat being too fast, hard to track, etc.
It is my only rant about what I like to call "NGE 2007". Combat system is way under the average in almost all aspects. And tell me combat system is not one of the core systems of a mmorpg...
I play WoW and SWG. Liking both very much. SO THERE!
Call someone scientist quick , here we have an kind of that rare species i.e part of the target audience NGE was aimed for

I dunno, SW:G was interesting for about the first month, but I've gradually been logging in less, and less, to the point where I haven't logged in in at least a week, likely more.
I dunno, the combat gets me a bit, but it doesn't seem to be the main problem. I adjusted fully to the system, and while I'd welcome Animations, I can do without. The UI is a complete piece of shit, doing anything takes much much longer than it should, but that doesn't really get me either. My lag is probably my computer's fault, (Well, in some cases) so I won't blame it for that.
I guess the biggest problem, is the end-game. Besides PvP, whatta ya got? A few group dungeons, not much else. Sure, you could go BM, but to compete in that way, you really need to go not only all the way BM, but you need to invest loads of time and a very large amount of money. Beast Master is a great addition, no doubt, but there really needs to be more content.
**Disclaimer** What follows could only apply to the Ahazian Galaxy, I freely admit to it, feel free to tell me "Change Servers lolz". I won't be listening, but you can point it out anyway to make your e-peen feel larger **Disclaimer**
Another couple of problems I have with the game is the community. It doesn't exist. Yes, I know there are people (Not nearly as many as there used to be, but there is still a decent amount). I'm talking about a community.
You walk into the cantina, and what do you get? Buff-botters and the Buffed, pretty much. Just try to strike up a conversation with someone. Most people are Semi-AFK, waiting for a "maxed" tell or to be maxed and send such a tell. I remember the days when people just came to the cantina to chill and talk. Lots of people were social, and sometimes there was even a bit of RPing or even a conflict between the two factions. Not so anymore.
Even on the forums, and in guildchat, things aren't much better. My guild isn't dead, by anymeans, but very few people strike up a conversation at all. The forums, well, those have always been a bit flamey, but there were always a general sense of fellowship, and quite often friends were made everywhere. Now, pretty much everyone is looking for the next bit of drama so they can trade meaningless jabs with each other over some new revelation about "Random-person 'spl01tz".
Which brings me to the next point. PvP. Yeah, theres PvP at Restuss. But it is all a numbers game. Sure, skill has some factor, and can even overcome certain points of outnumbered-ness. But often time, it ends up being one faction overwhelming another with three times the amount and then sitting on Restuss, while the outnumbered faction runs off to do something else and the huge faction loses players as nobody is around. Then everybody sits for Thirty Minutes and waits until the vicious cycle repeats itself. Not real fun.
Ah well, I'm sure my gripes are all explained by me being a "hate-boi" and "You don't know what you're talking about" and "You didn't approach it with an open mind". I don't see myself Re-upping, and I sorta wish I hadn't sprung for the Three Months.

Good review i like it when people just state their opinion as being opinions(Just like the OP has done wich was also good to read). So you are in no way some "hate-boi" and "You don't know what you're talking about" and "You didn't approach it with an open mind". don't let anyone fool you thinking this way please, (and might you think because of what i wrote earlyer you need to know my response was at people that try to make their opinion facts, which you clearly stated your experiance. Its what we do on forums and thats what i can respect
The game is still very diverse to this day and alot different than your average mmorpg out there right now. Star Wars is what you make of it. Its a shame there is'nt many sci-fi games out there unless you like Anarchy Online or Eve Online.
Hopefully Tabula Rasa will help most of the disgruntle vets get over there Star Wars experience, but the way its looking, TR maybe the same mmo with a different shade of color.
Star Wars is and will always be here, whether its in another mmo format or this one we all tried out since 2003. Its hard to kill a PoP Culture Game, whether you personally think the game sucks or not.
I do miss the Pre Cu when everything was new, but those days are gone, just move on and let it go, there are other games on the horizon.
NOTE:
If you are looking for list..
Phat Lootz?
Raid a Dungeon with 40 people to kill a boss that takes a whole evening session.
Weapons the size of Trees with lightning bolts from the heavens.
Armor gear that looks like Power Rangers Extreme.
Wizards, Warlocks, Sorcerors and Shiny Knights in Armor.
Well I can point you to about a dozen of them to try out.

Once a denizen of Ahazi
shush you silly person. its called appeal, content and gameplay.
*edit* If you got RL friends playing that's another story, luckily I dont coz all mine left during CU, thank god*
shush you silly person. its called appeal, content and gameplay.
Crafting is pointless as theres no failed attempts?
Have you actually crafted anything?!!!!! I've had lots of failed attempts when crafting pet food lately.

But good we finaly got at this point of understanding
No you're not You played the game but you can't be VETS cause sorry they don't play MMORPG only to compete with others, they play mmorpg to join eachother. They not the jalouze type that look at others what they have, A VET can make his own fun and is involved with the community, only if you unable to socialize in a mmorpg would things like GRIND/BORED excist, and like you have shown many times, JALOUZY
Sad thing we see this more and more , people unable to socialize ingame and they truly seem to think that lvling is all there is to a game like SWG, how can someone who plays like that calls himself a VET LOL
Now when people are capable to mix in with the community instead of being jalouze at the community the game is lots of fun, there is grind if you limit yourself to one type of playstyle, but those more true gamers with passion for mmorpg arn't like that, its those ELitist that have a hard time dealing with MMORPG's like SWG.
WTF? Since when do you have to be a socialite to be a vet? Do you even know what a vet is? Its not the guy that got voted prom king..

Hey,
Well, to me this is senseless argueing.

I play WoW and SWG.
Liking both very much.
SO THERE!
And tell me combat system is not one of the core systems of a mmorpg...
peace man , just joking nothing personal intended this comment is aimed more for $OE officials.

Then you are probably in the wrong game..
