This is going to be the hardest hitting mmo ever. I could care less what anyone's like as long as me an' my troops from my gaming clan are playing it and having a blast. This game is going to freaking rock. Anyone that's read the reviews and seen the gameplay movies knows this. They are unanimous.
About the only thing I'm worried about is how much content and how many players there are. If the pvp and combat system lives up to the promising outlook this will be the mmo to end all other sword and stick mmos. AoC will set the bar for the next generation of games. I am optimistic.
Worrying about this stuff before the game is even out is sort of silly. Immature players are in every game.
Like I said, meh. Worrying about what the players _might_ be like is ridiculous at this point. IMHO 99% of 12 year olds have never heard of Conan so won't even give this game a second look. In fact the M rating will be more of an attraction to them than the fact that it's Conan. While I agree that the M rating won't prevent immature people from playing, I could care less. Like I said the game will rock. What else matters?
Theres going to be naked chicks, tits, and a whole lot of blood and violence in this game...Even though its 17+ im sure theres going to be a lot of underage people who will make it their mission in life to get access to this game jus because theyre not 17. Basically tell a kid not to press the Big Red Button and sooner or later they will do it.... Jus ignore them and play your own game. AoC FTW

And if a youngster, mature or not, is stupid enough to post his/her age in chat or over ventrillo, or I hear some kid sayin' "Mom, what do I do now?", damn tootin' they'll be reported and banned. I have an 8 year old daughter. Will she be playing? Hell no. And when she asks if she can play daddy's game, she'll have it explained to her that daddy's game is too grown up for her. She will undrstand, as i have always set boundaries for her and explained the reason for those boundaries each time. And I will play my game.

I find it funny that people believe that since its M some kids will be kept out, usually its the less mature kids who are able to get it even though its M. and on that not come on Halo has some of the MOST immature people i have ever seen any where and its rated mature, IMO though i may be wrong the M label really has no effect on the maturity of the players ingame. some Teen games have a mature player base, but so do some Mature games, and both have games with horribly immature playerbases.
It might lower the amount of inmature players, but we will not notice since they are always so load that 3 makes enough noise to silence everyone else.
Does anyone else find all this talk about maturity amusing? Here's the thing... Being mature is an abstract notion. In general, everyone has moments when they are mature, and moments when they are immature. It has nothing to do with AoC, nudity, or the 17+ rating of the game. That's all age related which is a different issue altogether.
As far as immature players and MMOs are concerned, there's no MMO out that doesn't have them. The trick is to be mature enough yourself to deal with them. And if that doesn't work out, there's always /ignore.
The rating for AoC will be its downfall. Just because it's gonna have "boobies" in it younger people will want to get it. The rating system does nothing but provide an earmark for responsible adults. Doesn't help when people have 18+ siblings or friend with older siblings. Don't try to hide behind something so worthless. Just hope that since AoC needs a pretty good computer that many of the younger crowd won't be able to play it at all or for long. That's the only thing you have protecting you.
Sorry, there will be no naked breasts in this game as stated by a dev.
Chopping off arms and legs in gushes of blood that's ok but showing some nipples that's a big no-no.

If that should really be the case, then I'll laugh straight into all those Faces who said: "Conan is going M to stay true to the lore!"
Yeah, true to the lore but no naked breasts, no naked boys serving dinner, no raping... So basically they add Gore to a Barbarian game.
You guys are screwed.... I'm a bad parent so I'll actually be buying a copy of AOC and letting my 14 year old son give it a trial. If he says it doesn't suck I'll join him in playing....
I'm not worried about the "blood" (LOL, looks likes a rainshower) or the boobies in the game.... heck, I'm more concerned what sort of clowns he might meet in a game like this, but the actual content I'm sure he's mature enough to handle.

Any real adult has already seen *real* breasts, half a million times already. An adult playing a game BECAUSE it has *imaginary* breasts... sorry I don't see it. Unless they are the 40 year old virgin type. And even then... theres the internet. I'm confident that such a selling point is only a real draw for the young and ahem... inexperienced. And this goes for any mature content really. The older you get the more meaningless these things become.
Not to mention, I've always found it interesting the amount of outright anger and aggression message boards have whenever the possibility of nudity or swearing or quote unquote 'adult' content is not an option, not just in this game but every game. Would an actual adult have such an extremist reaction at the removal of video game breasts? Or would they laugh and move on, because there are more important things to worry about? Perspective people perspective.
Conan Lore personally isn't that important or appealing to me. I never found it to be very interesting or deep. You've got a world of chaos and rampent mindless destruction. Societies are hives of scum and villiany. A barbarian rises from nothing and becomes king. Ok. Maybe there is something I missed but... they seem to be all pretty common themes, which we've all seen before in other books and movies.
I was more interested in the gameplay systems for Conan than the lore., since its the gameplay that sets it apart from what we have experienced in the past. But thats me. I've seen breasts, I've seen blood. You see it enough, and it becomes not a big deal.
And if its not a big deal to you.... then maybe you are old enough to play this game

I do agree with this. Anyone who has to play a game to see virtual 'boob's' is obviously sad not immature. I think a lot of people are worrying about nothing to be honest. There is a rating on the game for a reason but that will not stop kids from playing, but like the original post said its not the age of the players that make a difference. Some teenagers can be very mature and some adults can be completly immature.
Lets be fair when we as adults (im 25 myself) play games that is often seen as immature anyway by our familys/ friends or girlfriends, i know mine does but does that make us immature for enjoying video games?
my view on maturity lvl ratings. they are just there for law suit reasons. if ya think your kid is mature enough to play the game, then let him. just think about it when we were all teenagers. ya'll hanging out at a friend's house and go diggin through the garage or old boxes in the attack and finding his dad's playboy mags or finding a porno left in the VCR. we all flipped through the magazines and watched the movie. kids now days are doin the same thing, except for the tech difference. the only grounded i have is that i hope i dont get banned for using "adult" language in general chat. mature rating should mean mature audience, mature audience means mature language. thats my 2 cents
The maturity of the playerbase is ussually inversely proportional to the size of the playerbase. The less players there are, the nicer they USSUALLY become. The rating on the box means NOTHING. Mature themes don't translate to those who are interested in them. Kids will find a way to play or watch anything. R ratings didn't stop me from sneaking into movies in the 80s or renting them. It hardly stops anyone now.
It might mess with sales if Walmart and others don't cary the game for whatever reason.
I've said this time and time again. Mature ESRB Rating means NOTHING! Its simple, they can't market it with the content they have unless its rated M. The type of parents that look at ratings don't let their kids play MMO's for hours on end. This games player base will be the same as the rest. Average age of an MMO player is in the Mid 20's. 27 to be exact. You get the teenagers that act like teenagers, and you get the larger then life 20somethings that think the king poop, on turd island. This is life in the MMO world my friends.
all im gonna say is that it cant be any less mature than wow, and that alone makes me happy... although wow isnt really setting a very high bar community-wise lol.
Please stop saying that this game will have more mature players than other MMOs, it's simply not true. A mature person can be of any age. An immature person can also be of...any age. Just because you have to be "this old" to buy the game does not mean you will have a mature player base. I have met plenty of people that will be able to purchase AoC due to their age, but should be not allowed to play it due to their maturity level. Also, I know of people below the age that are more mature than some adults...but they will not be able to buy it. Remember...though they are often considered the same...Maturity and Age are different. Stopping using the "Mature" to build hype for the game...it's lame and immature.' AoC is looking to be a great game and many are looking forward to it (including myself)...stop mucking it up for the rest of us.
I agree, but also you have to understand that AoC fans usually use the world "mature" as some kind of elitist viewpoint that puts their MMO above and beyond any other. In reality it is not the mature perspective that allows an MMO to thrive, it all comes down to the longevity of game play and the feeling of accomplishment when you play it.
This is a funny topic, I was thinking a few days ago back in my SWG days. That game had a clause as most MMO's do about age restrictions. As I thought back I realized I got at least 9 kids banned from the game for spewing off then admitting their age. The only reason I know this is because (as most hang in groups) I would get mails in game or tells about "why did you get my friend/brother banned from the game ass!?" Of course I would respond with " Do I know you? If you keep persisting with this subject and assaulting me, I will report this as well , so bye bye!" ... eh sure, it would be simple to just /ignore, but I was the parent (ass) police. If parents can't control their kids own behavior, I will fix it fast enough.
If some kid is stupid enough to say his age to me and cuss me out, they don't deserve to be there. I can imagine by now a few reading this going, wtf? why? .. because I can and I am old and cranky fart who generally does not like kids. Sure I have a few friends who are teenagers (considered kids) but overall, I throw them all in a group of wannabee adults who havn't reach their pubic stages. I wonder how many adults are reading this right now and thinking "its about time!" but will say "thats sad" , I know so many who will say it to my face but in public, we must be politically correct and love all kids. I hate each and everyone of you little whiny bastards! Well except my own, they are perfect! lol
