kids still like star wars, i don't know what kind of acid you've been eating.
well my friend, there are not enough star wars fans who play computergames...
there might be some 30 - 60 years old hardcore star wars fans out there, but they dont play computergames...
pre-cu star wars subscribers up to 450.000 were the best that could ever happen to SOE and thats something thats got to get into sony online entertainements mind...
there are not enough star wars fans who play computergames to make a title be successful only because of the brand...
plain and simple...
and now think about the stupidity that the SOE management made with the NGE:
in case to expand the existing game style pre-cu star wars galaxies had, they made the game more star warsy and were willing to sacrifice their excisting playerbase... instead of making the game less starwarsy and more complex, they made exactly the opposite and failed in a horrific way...
its a great example of incompetence of a management and the failure to realise what your customers really want..
Making Star Wars Galaxies less Star Warsy and more complex would have alienated a whole different group of users. Regardless of what your eighth grade friends think, Star Wars is popular and produces successful media. To disregard the franchise in favor of adding less Star Warsy things in the name of complexity is just plain stupid. Why? Have you ever looked online at the number of extended universe stuff? If SoE wanted to add complexity to the game it would not have to sacrifice the franchise for it. There are hundreds of books, comics, and games which do not compromise the universe.
SoE failed on a different level. They decided to revamp their system in such a way as to make it more like current popular games. The update, to many, was a slap in the face. The game as it stands has become a mere husk of what it once promised to be (supposedly). This had nothing and I mean NOTHING to do with how Star Warsy the game was.

Games like KotoR, the Battlefront series, Empire at War, even the Lego SW series are huge successes. If there weren't people wanting SW games no one would buy them.
and the NGE failed because it was horribly designed, incomplete, and NONE OF THE PLAYERS LIKED IT. Plain and simple.
It had nothing to do with "star warsy". "Star warsy" is a slogan SOE used to try to justify what they did, but that was not why the NGE was made.
I played SWG from beta, and about six months into release. I quit because I was a dirt farmer in a universe that was supposed to have starships and light sabers and force powers. And... I was getting 200 emails a day asking for houses.
I heard that they changed stuff around so that you can be a jedi now, and of course they added starship combat, but IMO that ship has sailed. Perhaps if they had those things in at release I'd still be playing (I loved my bothan).
hmm. for a second i actually thought about giving you a look up in game, since i still do the jtl stuff. but then i saw your character name, which im almost positive is a reference to the term ' bukkake'. i'm sure you will say that its not, but its enough to make me not want to be a part of your little group. i will however be glad to shoot you guys down repeatedly.
I recently bought it the Complete Online Adventures and will be jumping in myself. I wasn't a big fan at beta, but now that I have an SOE all-access pass, the sub won't cost me anything.
MMO games played or tested: EQ, DAoC, Archlord, Auto Assault, CoH, CoV, EQ2, EVE, Guild Wars, Hellgate: London, Linneage II, LOTRO, MxO, Planetside, SWG, Sword of the New World, Tabula Rasa, Vanguard, WWIIOL, WOW, Age of Conan
