What is your ideal MMO?

My ideal MMO was already created and FUBARed..  SWG.

In the beginning you made your OWN content. Yes there were horrible bugs and SOE.. well SOE you all know that story...

I remember spending hours upon hours setting up harvesters to mine and building homes for people. Setting up my house and my shop,  combining different types of furniture to make new and odd designs. bugging out to go run with a group of people storming the Endor forests and other planets.

Yes character classes were unbalanced and I am convinced that the only way you can get true balance is with super limited / focused game play (like Wow)

Is balance that important? Some yes but its a fluid environment.  Yes, a bounty hunter should be able to kick a crafter's butt...  or even a smugglers... (I know this a whole other long long discussion hehe)

Second Life is a great concept but is missing the game play element. Wow is awesome but is very limited.

The ideal MMO will combine both of these elements into a genre such as Sci-Fi.

The original SWG Developers (Varent) had a grand vision and it was spot on. Unfortunately, Money grubbers derailed it to their own end.

I hope and pray for a decent new MMO, but I don't foresee my ideal MMO existing within the next several years. I did try LoTRO and Vanguard... LoTRO is just another WoW and Vanguard is lifeless and cardboard feeling.

I will be trying Tabula Rasa and Age of Conan.

My ideal MMORPG would be one with a lot of female players. So, it would have to be an MMORPG that attracts a lot of female gamers...like Maplestory or Ragnarok Online. That is why I'm looking forward to RO2. ^_^

    Currently Playing: 3ds Max 2009
Played and Loved: World of Warcraft, EVE Online, Warhammer Online
    Best F2P MMO: Requiem Bloodymare
Want to Play: Aion (See Teaser), DCuniverseOnline (awesome gameplay videos)

I would have to say SWG pre cu without Lucas Arts poking their nose in holding content back and making changes.

    My ideal MMO would either:

    A. Let you play as a dragon.

    or

    B. Let you explore a vast universe in a space ship. Epic space battles a must. Pirates you bet.

Still searching for an mmorpg with the above, with out the concerning problems caused by the people running the mmo that go with it.

My ideal MMO combines the best of the games that came before.

Mainly, FFXI's Storyline, cutscenes, missions, job(class)setup, and atmosphere.
SWG's crafting, sandbox content and social aspects.
    EQ2's collections and music.
WoW's main gameplay(not the raiding part)but the ease and fun of leveling and combat.
DAOC's RVR, and sheer amount of class choices(looks like WAR will have this so lets use WAR as an example as well.
Conan's combat system looks cool too, so lets use that.

And lastly, lets make 2 games, one scifi the other fantasy( i love both equally). Basically that's what I want, of course innovative aspects are a must as well, but a game like this would keep me happy for years.

Well, Eve fulfills everything you said for B...

I want a game with a nice storyline, graphics and unique atmosphere that has group and solo content. Like FFXI but less solely party oriented.

ideal mmo either modern, or fantasy based. No sci-fi/space crap.

It is interactive, not stupendously solo based without any interaction at all.

It is social, it promotes activities and events and doesn't have a ridiculous level divide.

It has a similar system to EQ's alternate advancement.

It has a nice style to it and not cartoony

Gameplay is the emphasis, over grind.

It has a world, you WANT to explore, it has captivating dungeons.

It isn't sillily time-intensive to get anywhere or do anything.

It has depth or some kind of learning curve without being excessively sophisticated.

It has an involving and enjoyable pvp endgame.

It has nicely structured and rewarding quests.

It has crafting that isn't dull.

No death penalty, instead a rewarding survival bonus.

Basically, it would be a mix of AC2 and EQ with some alterations.

The Ideal MMORPG mmm hard to answer.

For me the ideal MMORPG has to be a "Sandbox Game" in the the core. Simply because only a sandbox game is able to be content in the system itself and because of that is the only game type that will never run out of content. Also my ideal MMORPG should be without levels, but should consist of skilltrees. Within the skilltrees you should be able to focus on a branch or a skill and invest more points. This would lead to huge amout of possible combinations. Levels are not needed and not wanted in such a system.

The Ideal MMORPG integrates players. A few ideas that go into the right direction are, player cities, player driven economy ( player only), player controlled factions, rentable NPC structures in big cities, player can generate quests+event and finally another option are game events where the outcome will change the face of game world ( city gets detroyed or ruler changes or earthquake sunk/rised land etc).

ofc a detailed answer qould fill a small book but that would be pretty much the core of my book :P

My ideal MMO is a not-so-serious adventure that is specifically designed for solo play.

I loathe forced partying in MMOs.

Personally I'd love to see Shadowrun Online.  Street Sam's using various cybernetic implants to beat down a mob,  Decker's hacking into the Matrix (nothing to do with the movie), Mages, Shamans and Riggers... whole lotta stuff to do.

Story - Like LOTRO or FFXI with cutscenes and a player-focused storyline rather then a world-focused storyline

Advancement system like a combo between FFXI and SWG - skill based, yet with levels, and if you swap out of a skill/class set into another one, then go back to the original, the original will still be as high as you got it before. That way you can experiment/customize w/o having to restart completely. So like the job change system but far more skill focused

    PVP like Warhammer is promising

Main gameplay with quests and lots of content and fun like WoW or WAR pve (World quests etc)

Equipment/armor customization like old UO, but better. Should be able to pick exactly how you look, with new "styles" and armor/weapon designs "unlocked" as you play.

Combat like WoW but far less gear dependant with more emphasis on movement, including not being able to run through players.

Varied and dynamic end game raid content, rewarding skill and coordination over gear levels.

Gear/loot not near as important as player skill/coordination teamwork. Like old UO, all the gear sucked, it was the players that made the difference.

Crafting from SWG, including housing and player cities.

You forgot to read the fine print: "Still searching for an mmorpg with the above, with out the concerning problems caused by the people running the mmo that go with it."

    EVE has Dev corruption problems.

My ideal MMO would be an updated "Jumpgate" set in a universe as large as Eve online.

Jumpgate is presently being reworked  as Jumpgate Evolution and I'm hoping it will be the game it should of been at the start. The old flight engine makes you feel like your actually flying a spaceship. There were many good ideas in Jumpgate, but the universe was too small. With improved graphics and a larger universe, it may be a really great game.
