Its not a clone. Warcraft is a clone of warhammer. Everyone knows that except Wow kiddies who think Wow created MMOs.
I'm not a WoW kiddy, i don't even play it. It's just famous. If you'll ask the so called "9 million" subscribers of WoW they will tell you that it's a clone. And yes majority wins.
No, they won't. Only the ones that blindly believe that blizzard created Warcraft from scratch. Those that actually know the truth and that is they ripped off most of their style and lore from Warhammer.
Only the clueless will believe Warhammer is a copy of Warcraft. Those that actually have taken the time to look at Warhammer and do a little research will know otherwise.
Besides, I could care less what 7-8 million Asian players think. Their idea of a good game and mine are wildly different.
Ok i saw the trailer, so War started 1983. And i would believe Blizzard beat the crap out of it. It's sad to know this. But the damage has been done.
And yes i keep comparing War to Wow because of the similarities. And Wow tend to have the higher grounds because of Blizzard.
Why does this game have so much hype. i meen what is so new and revolutionary about it? im not hating it or anything. i just dont understand the hype. please elaborate. i cant see why a game like darkfall isnt on the hype list.
I don't think the hype is meant to reflect anything revolutionary in WAR. I think the members of this site Hyped it so much because they are very excited about getting a game aimed specifically at them (PVP crowd)
I like both kinds of play, but I hyped this game high because I have played PVE for so long I am looking forward to a complete change of pace by doing mostly PVP. I have never played DAOC, but I remember when open world pvp was in WOW and we all thought (maybe naively) that it was RVR (horde vs Alliance) . I liked the idea that fighting someone or attacking a town had a greater purpose.
In WAR the RVR is paramount. The "greater war" is always in the forefront of player's minds. It won't be crap.
It gets hype because of the Warhammer ip and nothing more. I think this game will be good and I am not even a major Warhammer fan but I dont think it is going to be the tip of the sword either. Going by the trailer, graphics look so so, I seen better graphics from Guild Wars, EQ2,FFXI and Bioware games. We have seen orcs, dwarves, elves before so nothing earth shattering here either. I do like the chaos in this game and the squig herder, those seem to be original atleast. The pvp will be the deciding factor I think for this game. If there is nothing original or unique for that matter in their pvp well then I highly doubt it will ever beat the amout of hype this game gets already but lets not trash this game. I do wish the best for this game but *yawnnn* show gamers something that actually makes people want to play this game other than the IP factor.
Currently playing: Guild Wars
Waiting for: Age of Conan, Guild Wars 2 and anything from Bioware (they make great games!)
Since it will probably be the most polished and well thought out game since WoW. And a good contestant that probably will take it's throne.

At least according to the devs, the game is going to be focused on RVR PVP and on having fun gameplay. This is a huge difference from other MMORPGs, which have various long grinds, raids, gank-and-loot PVP, harsh penalties for deviating from the standard, and so on. Vangaurd, for example, hyped itself as being actively unfun for an ordinary person to play, with long travel times, harsh death penalties, and lots of repitition, while WAR is taking the opposite philosophy.
A big factor in my book is NO PVE RAIDS. Games like WOW are and AOC promise that the PVE portion has raiding at the top, and that non-raiders will always be second-rate. WAR is not going that route at all, and I think that alone will be a big draw over raid-centric games like WOW or raid-heavy games like AOC. For some reason just about every game that comes out starts off talking about interesting solo and group stuff, then kind of sneaks in that raiding will be top dog.
The PVP is also not going to be 'gank-and-loot' like EVE or UO, where a player has to spend longer PVE-grinding to recover from death than the original fight took. And it's not going to be narrowly constrained like WOW, where you do your 10 arenas a week for gear and pop into the same 3 battlefields plus one slightly different one to grind out better gear. It's going to have open world fighting, plus various scenarios with some degree of balance, and overall objectives to fight for beyond 'make that guy PVE grind some more'.
Why does this game have so much hype. i meen what is so new and revolutionary about it? im not hating it or anything. i just dont understand the hype. please elaborate. i cant see why a game like darkfall isnt on the hype list.
For me it's because: It's based around RvR and made by Mythic whom coined the term aswell produced in my opinion the best PvP fun yet in an MMO, as well an all around great game (DAoC)
well since this topic have become rather long and as often happends here a little of topic - i recomend that reading post 31 by

i like to add to your question that a game does not have to have anything new or revolutionary about it to be hyped. (blizzard games comes in mind here !) But a gamedevelopers have to very good at what they are doing to deserve it. (does blizzard ring a bell again!).
Games workshop who are "the Warhammer IP", have been historical very good at being succesfull at different areas- WRPG rolleplaying game second to only AD&D for a decade , WHFB number 1 tabletop game for at least 2 decades. Books, novels boardgames, magazines, miniatures, events and tournaments for 25 years all in the Warhammer world. a lot off shops only selling Warhammer merchandice. they have a lot of skill in manegeging a community. And they are exstreamely good at it. Personal i see games workshop hype experience being brought in play in how the hype is developed.
Now there is a enormous crowd of hardcore fans waiting for this game to go live. A crowd, not necasarry mmorpg or even computer gamers but gamers anyway! And then its mytic that is making the game! DaoC a mmorpg that was about sides fighting each others. Now from a warhammer fan this just sounds like the right choices for a developer! thumbs up ! And some of the confussion about why there is this hype that comes from online gamers not aware of the background!
RvR is all the revolution this gameworld needs if they can make it work! Alot of the hype come from the expectations that is to RvR. And with all the conserns that this had made to PvE from mmorpg gamers its must be a huge thing!
But beside that there is a podcast/video somewhere( i i just could find it) where they state whats the 3 inovative things they are doing , that i think is not kind revolutionary but simply the improvements that mmorpgs are ready for ! And its based on some observations about mmorpgs. If i remember correct its RvR, puplic quest and the grimore. Worth looking into!
by watching the videos and podcast i do get a feeling that this game is more like a blizzard game situation where we get a game that is really really wellmade, but less innovative that expected! but thats worth hype anyway!
Because RvR has always been the best kind of PvP. DAoC pre-ToA was amazingly awesome. I hope we can go back to those days, but with next gen technology and ideas implemented.
its not for the RvR (totally, only the DAoC fans like it for the RvR) but its also cause the warhammer tabletop game is popular and there are other franchises that have spread the warhammer name, it doesnt offer anything really new or innovative, put it does have a fan base from the DAoC and Warhammer crowd
well one good reason the hype is so high is because its warhammer...based on the TT game and many many many many many people have played it and loved it or still do. so those people will play this game in a heart beat. other reasons are because the PvP...its fantastic. plus alot of people LOVE the warhammer lore...for me its all of those things.
and another thing the tome of knowledge and the PvE.....the pqs and everything its great!
Peace is a lie, there is only passion. Through passion,I gain strength, through strength,I gain power, through power,I gain victory, through victory,my chains are broken. The Force shall free me.
Going by the trailer, graphics look so so, I seen better graphics from Guild Wars, EQ2,FFXI and Bioware games.
I don't get why people keep bringing up graphics in WAR. If you look at some HD videos and high quality pictures you can see they have better modeling and textures then most if not all MMOs out right now. Art style != quality in graphics. People really need to understand this. To top it off we have not even had a good look at the lighting system in WAR.
To say any of the games you listed has better graphics is laughable. Guild Wars is master of the Bloom affect but their textures frankly are lacking. EQ II looks more like clay figures and the armor textures are horrible. FFXI is ok but again sub par textures compared to the games coming out. At least you did not compare the graphics to WoW.
Again you can dislike the art style but please be smart and take a good look at textures, lighting, modeling before making false blanket statements about quality.

I would say its a combination of art style, pvp focus, accessibility, dev attitude and the willingness to continually provide a great deal of information/footage about the game.
Hype is a combination of both excitement and belief in existance. If people don't think it exists, it doesn't contribute to hype. WAR has a great deal of information that is backed up by vid proof. And so its features have value.
Why aren't people hyped about flying cars? the idea is new and revolutionary - but people don't believe they exist (because they dont yet) so it gets no hype. Darkfall is a bit like that.
