You know where all this WoW hate comes from right?
Envy
That's right, envy. Blizzard created a game that destroyed the competition, a game that's well rounded and very polished and everyone just loves to see the big giants fall. When something or somebody becomes successful, people just love to try and bring them down. It's called being vindictive.
"The game I play isn't as successful as WoW so I will spread WoW hate to let everyone know" "I hope WoW fails"
My personal favourite all time MMO is EQ. That game had me hooked for years and I am glad that it's still doing quite well. Now everyone is entitled to their opinion, don't get me wrong, but it always seems to go beyond criticism and turns into a hate mongering flame fest. Like "WoW is only for retards" or "WoW is ez mode and designed for noobs"
People need to realise that there isn't or won't be a game out for a loooooong time that will topple WoW.

Yep so there is a possability that they also inspired DarkElves too.

^^ THE best way to start off another wow/war argument.
If I recall right, Warcraft 1 was meant to be Warhammer game (Empire vs Greenskins), but GWC wasnt happy with the game, so Blizz made up their own lore and rest is history.

Yea this is common knoledge now [exept for those who genuinly dont and those in denial].

I really don't think these arguments are caused by envy. I doubt anyone here will tell you they want the WoW community to migrate to WAR or AoC. I would be happy if both games stayed between 500K - 1mil subscribers. That would ensure success for the MMO without pulling so many of the bad elements from other communities.
I do think there is a certain element of pride being a warhammer fan just like in sports. If you saw a new sports team have the same color scheme and logo but different name as your favorite team.... There would be fan outrage same as on these boards.

Blizzard ripped ideas off gamesworkshop, but gamesworkshop is just a big tolkien rippoff anyhow. And because of blizzards success with a mmorpg, gamesworkshop and rippoffed them back by making a WoW clone. WoW wasn't a rippoff of blizzard really because yeah they stole some very generic fantasy storylines but they came up with all the big ideas and mechanics that made it a succes, gamesworkshop wasn't even in the computer games industry. anyhow I think I just pwned the whole arguement.

Its a nice story and could be true but theres not 1 single bit of evidence that supports this, nor the apparent law suits blah blah.. why would GW turn down WC1 anyway, it was a big hit back then. So I don't believe it.

Aye, this may be true for a lot of the WAR fans but there is a WoW hate cult out there that are bent on seeing it's destruction.
I for one cannot wait for WAR. I've been into Warhammer for a loooooong time.
Why would there have to be a lawsuit? Perhaps they came to an amicable agreement with Blizz Companies make mistakes. GW apparently felt that Warcraft wasn't going the way they wanted and it wouldn't be as successful as it turned out to be, and they were wrong. With enough changes to the lore GW wouldn't need to claim Intellectual property any more, as the concept of orcs and elves is not their intellectual property either.
Either way its pretty irrelevant, if you go along this line of thought then all fantasy games are eventually a 'rip-off' of something else. Frankly I'd like to see if even one of those throwing the label 'rip-off' at anything that has a superficial similarity to aother game to come up with something truly original.
Its easy to sit up in the peanut gallery and toss aspersions around.
WoW is getting on and the expansions are loosing their shine.
WAR is already being mismanaged in Europe and as it's GOA behind it I can't see it getting better. Mythic will probably put something interesting together but whether they can keep all the good Elements from DAoC is another issue.
But I can't comment for anything else but I am fecked off about every fscking MMORPG being fantasy based and not just fantasy based but high fantasy.
FFS if you look at the sheer number of genres in books, movies and even tabletop RPGs. Surely there has to be other ground that MMORPGs could look into?

They didnt know it would be a hit did they? and they gave Mindscape rights to create 'Shadow of the horned rat' which ofc was a total failure (released 95, warcraft 1 released 94).
I think anyone with a little insight into GW tabletops and games lore will recognize the warcraft/warhammer "rip/tribute" and the starcraft/warhammer40k "rip/tribute". Even Diablo/DungeonQuest/HEroquest some say, altho I've never played diablo so I cant say

There ARE others to look into. CoX, Auto Assault, EvE. The whole thing about fantasy is that it's a world other than ours - even something completely different, not based on our sense of reality.
Technically, they all base off of some from of science-fiction. At least that's how I understand it, but people rather it be split into Fantasy and Science Fiction. *shrug*
But back on topic, I think the fuss is REALLY about that WAR is starting to become a threat to WoW. So the WoW-ites are feeling a need to create a fuss that WAR is stealing or is otherwise illigitimate to make them feel more secure.

If anything would not WAR be pretty much just be an prettier DAOC. For that matter does not WoW use a lot of ideas started in DAOC?
