Apparently it's a good year for Codemasters.

Maybe it's just another bad year for you

Not that bad, really. I thought all of the topics were quite balanced. They even had World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade on the list to keep the World of Warcraft players from shitting themselves.

LotRO is good, but my god, it's nothing special.

I got horribly bored after the 3-day-trial was over, I uninstalled it before the third day started. Boring Classes, boring Skills, boring Enemies, boring Quests.

It's relatively polished (even though all animation apart from yours are extremely jumping unless you put the Animation Slider to the max), it works...but it really isn't the best in any category.

    Congrats to Codemasters and LOTRO!

It's certainly deserved.. one of the most polished, well-rounded games available today!

Hopefully future MMO developers will learn from Turbine's success here.  Sometimes it's better to release a solid, stable game than claiming a buggy release is a so-called "3rd Generation" title.  The innovative, new and 3rd generation MMO's are just the latest gimmick to raise hype.

Gotta love all the nubheads here who diss a game and they probabaly never got past lvl 10, when the game actually starts getting good.

It might not be innovative, but after the noob experience it's actually FUN.

Certainly LoTRO isn't the Be All End all of all MMORPG's, but at the same time your pretty hard pressed to find a better game out now.    The game also has tons of potential to grow in a way alot of other MMORPG's have been unable to do.    I remember when WoW came out and I thinking how polished it was, and I got the same feeling with LoTRO.   I figured it would get alot of awards just like WoW did.

so you are telling me that it is totally worth all 5 golden joystick awards? i fully agree with what you are sayingwith the game can grow into something good but really all 5 awards?

  • free2killfree2kill Member Posts: 31

and come on who on earth plays Lord of the rings online with a joystick

I want to know who the heck is handing out GOLDEN JOYSTICKS!

  • davidabdavidab Member Posts: 10

People need to read before they flame.  LoTRO was nominated for 5 awards, they didn't win anything yet.  There are still a lot of games left in all the categories, their "short lists", and apparently even the short lists are completely dependent on fans (or gamers) selections.  So it's just a popularity contest.  I actually like LoTRO, but it's too soon to say just how high gamers actually rate the game compared to the competition based on these "golden joysticks".

I am always amazed at how people are so quick to judge things and usually they have limited exposure to that which they complain about.

Over the last 3 years I have played all the major MMO games, I have found good in each one but in the end I find I enjoy LOTRO the most. Using WOW as an example you have a solid game that is wrapped in a storyline. By this what I mean is the game came first and then a story was made to fit the game. This shows in the lack of real depth in plot development and involvement within WOW.

Now we look at LOTRO which bucked the current trend and wraped a game around a great story. This is old school design, the way things used to be when a game was made great by it's story as much as it's game play.

True LOTRO did nothing truly innovative in their design, unless you count the fact that it came out of the box as a finished and polished product, a sad except in todays market. However it has taken aspects from various other good games, tweaked thme to make them a little better and then combined them in a way previously not done. The result is a solid and proven system that delivers great game play and does it by blending well into the single most amazing stoyline in existence.

I was killing time waiting for the wife at a Target store today. There were only 3 MMORPGs on the full shelf of PC games. LoTRO, WoW, and Guild Wars. Lotro was the only one at 49.99 . Also whether the game is your cup of tea or not LoTRO certainly raised the standards bar once again by releasing such a polished game with high quality and good performance. Perhaps the other MMORPG makers need to be looking at what Turbine is doing and try to improve their games.

    I miss DAoC

LOTRO should get 10 golden joystick awards just for showing other companies that releasing finished and polished game is the only way to go !

Raising the bar ?  The bar shouldnt be moving. Turbine lowered it with Asherons Call 2  no crap they better raise it with this lol.

I saw this screenshot of Lotro the other day and i think the game gets pretty boring after looking at it for few minutes. No new classes, boring combat and crafting.

UK gamers have better taste, they also are better at gaming. I was born in the United States and I know this.

Anyway I am excited for Turbine, they put alot of hard work into this mmo, and are continuing to do so.
