Hey I was wondering if anyone has any information on this game, it appears to be a full scale mmorpg with dodging and good hack and slash action. I dunno it seems to be more fun than age of conan and warhammer and all those other games out, and apparently its already in beta in japan; though they are determining whether to release it out of japan. Has anyone played the game or any of the previous ones and can determine how fun it will be.
Well heres a video of it for those that havent heard of it before.

i thought it was the same as the first monster hunter. Single player, but you can log onto the net and play with people. I loved the first monster hunter, i rented it but couldnt find the retail version. It looked really interesting, a kind of game i could get into. Hopefully this one will be better.

I admittadely have never played the originals but from the videos I can say it looks to be exactly what I want in a game, I mean you run around dodging large attacks like the cat jumping across the screen at you, monsters tare tough as hell and look to do a ton of damage if they hit you, looks to be some aiming in the game even in the melee attacks.
A game that takes skill to play, is interactive, and cool looking; am I wrong in any of these assumptions?
I'm with you, now release it already :P
Sounds interesting, but its the first I've ever heard of it. Then again, I'm not typically too big on the imports.
D.
No, you're pretty right on the money. I got the first monster hunter when it came out on the PS2. I never played it offline because honestly, when you can party with three other guys to tackle a massive dragon, why would you do i alone? It's sorta like guild wars. You have a lobby area that could hold up to 8 people, you'd form your team with anyone in the lobby, then set out to do missions/quests to kill monsters, kill a boss, snatch some eggs, etc. All the while collecting different things to craft yourself new armor and weapons. Oh, and you attacked with the right analog stick, different motions with the stick ment different motions with your sword, so it wasn't just pounding a button.
Monster Hunter Frontier is just a PC port of Monster Hunter 2 for PS2. The main difference being that there is now a common meeting area. People can gather and talk and show off their new armor in a big field.
Monster Hunter 2 is a great game and I do so hope this comes out in English and soon(and that the port doesn't suck like all of Capcom's other PS2 to PC ports).
Ive heard they are selling a controller with the game, so it should still be as good. Anyways I think they are dealing with the lag by using lots of instanced zones which in my opinion means better gameplay.
I dont care if it loads every step I take as long as the game takes skill to play unlike these world of warcraft esque games.
Okay for such a sweet looking game no one seems to be posting on this thread, I was hoping to get at least a little information on it. Did you see how much it looks like it will rapizzle age of conan and warhammer etc..? Actual dodging, aiming, fighting giant monsters that kick the shat out of orcs and fairies. Someone tell me why theres no appeal for this game? I cant even wait to try it but no one mentions anything about it and theres almost non-existant hype.
If Capcom wasn't IP blocking everyone outside of Japan. I'd be playing Monster Hunter Frontier right now. It's still hasn't wrapped up the beta yet. I hate you Capcom.
In War - Victory.
In Peace - Vigilance.
In Death - Sacrifice.
does anyone know if this is going to be PC and PS3?? kind like the last monster hunter (PS2 only i think) but also on the pc. I mean the only reason i really liked this game was because of how it handled on consoles. I cant imagine what it would be like on the pc

Couple of you seem to not know what Monster Hunter is like so I'll explain
Monster Hunter is NOT an MMO, it's a online multiplayer game.
In town you post up a quest, then 3 other people will join your quest. When everyone is ready you all head out to the area where the quest takes place. These areas are comprised of multiple zones. The most common quests are wyvern kill quests in which case a wyvern will go to a zone, you follow, you beat on it, it runs away and you repeat until it dies or your team dies a total of 3 times.
If you think that's simple then you're wrong. Wyverns are very tough. Even if you have the absolute best weapons and armor the weakest wyvern can still kill you in about 3 hits.
The "loot" you get from these wyverns are body parts. You use these body parts along with ore from mining to make ALL weapons and armor.
Monster Hunter Frontier is PC only and is a port of Monster Hunter 2 for PS2(Japan only). Monster Hunter Freedom 2 for PSP is also a port of Monster Hunter 2 so if you have a PSP try that out when it's released in August or try out Monster Hunter for PS2 or Monster Hunter Freedom for PSP to get the idea of what the Monster Hunter series is like.
I've played this game. the only thing that I'm wondering about is whether it will be free to access the online elements or if you will have to pay for it.
The closest you're going to get to this is Monster Hunter Freedom 2 on the PSP. There is absolutely no plans to bring this to the States or anywhere outside of Japan. The IP just isn't big enough for that....
It seems it has the same combat system in the other ones and only town is mmo'ish from what ive read, they are also gonna start charging in japan and determine its overall popularity as to whether to release it outside of japan. I wonder how fun it is actually gonna be.. is there still a world to explore or is it granado espada esque.
Turnipz - there is no explorable world. You're only allowed outside of town when on a quest. I guess it would be more comparable to D&D Online.
Monster Hunter has always had a monthly fee in Japan.
Capcom USA will most likely decide the fate of Frontier based on the sales of Freedom 2. But well, the first confirmation that Capcom USA was indeed localizing Freedom 2 was from a poll to determine the importance of online play. So, keep your fingers crossed.
I got opne of these games for psp which is also online... Its not mmo but u enter rooms like in DIABLO games.
The Big MMORPG List
Damn.. I think I just died a little inside, I would kill for a game like this. Infernal Capcom.
I'm imagining what that would be like as a full featured mmo world.
Definatley check this vid:
Somebody make it happen!
I have pwnzorz Monster Hunter Freedom. Very difficult and challenging for a new player but really rewarding in the end. I cant wait for this game to come out its gonna pwnzorzorzorzorz. i wonder if Grahf will play....
I read they have a usb controller that goes with the game, that might mean it at least keeps the sweet combat system.
This game looks sweet.... I so hope that they decide to bring the game over to us.

If you want a great example of viral marketing, well, this thread is it.
Do yourself a favor and ignore the Monster Hunter games that are released on the PSP. The PSP is clearly not up to the task.

Thats all you need to know for Monster Hunter on the PSP.
If you really want to play a game like Monster Hunter, then do yourself a favor and play this game.
