I'd agree, the sound makes my ears bleed. Ok thats an over-statement. But it's true, everything from the sound of some races 'jump' to many of the spell effects, the sounds in the game are overbearing and annoying as hell. It's not just the noisy halls, even in pre-done video releases they can get terribly annoying. Hopefully a good bit of them are 'placeholder' sounds. Cause if not, and I end up playing and loving WAR, my wife will want to kill me, cause they are sure to drive her even more nuts
I think everything in the game is close to being a "placeholder." Hell they even described the character options right now as being placeholder since they only have a few different looks being shown.
Now you have to ignore the fact that it's WoW and just listen to the sounds. At about 1:10 it starts. The sounds are horrendous. And I would say that WoW has some of the best sound effects of most games. I mean Blizzard is great with sounds and music melding into a game.
This is alpha placeholder type sounds. They're like this for most games it's just most games don't show what they look like in alpha or even early beta stage.

you should see this like a GF she may be beautiful but but if she is dull you dump her any way BTW i played some Old school mmorpg with no grafics at all they were funnnnnn
imo gameplay >grafics
yeah Vanguard is a perfect example, ppl brag about its graphics but how many are still playing heh.
Actually LotRO was in beta for about 10 months. I know because I was there for all of them. But it was a fairly small beta up until 3-4 months before launch, when they let a TUN of people, comparatively speaking, and then the open beta about a month before launch. Oh and yea, I'd like to see the proof that this game can handle 500 people on a battlefield as well. Especially considering how heavily Mythic is relying on instancing for their RvR. But that's not the topic of this thread, so I don't mind that I won't be getting an answer. Just like to add though, that a lighting engine can improve a games look. But anyone expecting a grand difference, and to suddenly put this game head and shoulders above it's competition, or even suddenly make it look 'not like WoW', these people are kidding themselves.
Its already proven in Daoc and instances are for ppl who love them and they help balance population problem thats why instances give more victory points.

I agree many are likely placeholder. But even the placeholders from WoW in that video pale in their annoyance to those to WAR. Even in recent footage the sound effects are ear splitting, at least on spells, and also voices. Hopefully that will change.
The game with the best sound and music FYI is Anarchy Online. Anyone who's played it a while can tell you it's probably the only MMOG out there where they don't instantly turn the music off or replace it with their own. It is atmospheric and gets you involved and immersed in the game like no other. With Funcom's next, AoC, they seem to be even beating what AO did so many years ago. Listen to some of the music for AoC, it is epic.
But this thread isn't about AoC, it's about WAR. As we get close to launch, I do indeed hope they replace most of the sound effects. While they have improved from Alpha, they are still really, really annoying.
Actually I'd have to disagree with AO honestly. It was the only game I"ve ever played where I actually searched for the sound effects setting to turn it down because I couldn't stand the sound effects in that game.
The ambient sounds were nice, but the sound effects of shooting, getting hurt, or that damn droid the engineer had drove me insane. I think it's a matter of opinion.
I just hated the sounds in AO. My favorite game for sounds is EVE hands down. Music, ambient sounds, guns, everything I loved. I even cranked up the sound effects because i loved the sound of the engines firing.

Alright listen buddy, the game is in BETA!!!!! That means that they aren't done with it. Their workshop is still cooking them up with more interesting things to add into the game. This also means improvement!!! SO whatever you saw in early non-released to the public videos, you shouldn't use to judge the game. It is in production. Also all the recent additions they have put into the newsletter are interesting as well. They are making good improvement.

Use the EQ model, poly music and poor voice acting, while everything else was a guy with a bag of dorritos, 5 dollers, and a synthasizer.
