Chinese Get B.C. Free

June 7, 2007 ? Shanghai, China ————

In appreciation of the ongoing support and enthusiasm of the Chinese World of Warcraft audience, The9 and Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. are pleased to announce that World of Warcraft players in China will not need to purchase a new CD key to play Blizzard Entertainment 's upcoming expansion, World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade . Per this plan, everyone in China who has ever purchased a CD key for World of Warcraft will be able to install the expansion content as well without paying for an extra CD key.

World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade will add a tremendous amount of new content to Blizzard Entertainment's award-winning massively multiplayer online role-playing game. Exciting new features that World of Warcraft players will be able to enjoy after installing the expansion include the entire new continent of Outland , two new playable races -- the Blood Elves and the Draenei -- flying mounts, the new jewelcrafting profession, advancement to the new level cap of 70 -- complete with powerful new talents and abilities -- new battlegrounds, dungeons, quests, and rewards, a revamped PvP system, and much more.

Further details on the availability of World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade in China will be announced in the near future. Please stay tuned to http://www.wowchina.com for more information.

    WTF?!!

That's some seriously messed up stuff right there.

So everyone in the US, UK, and Australia had to pay for that lame ass crap and then they turn around and give it away for free to all the chinsese players.

I was seriously thinking about reactivating my acount until I saw this.

Screw Blizzard and horse they rode in on.

If theres 4 million in China playing WoW.(possibly more)

if each played 4 hours a day thats $6  a month (roughly)

Thats $288,000,000 yearly income ( before taxes)

    _______________________________________________

If theres 800,000 in US or Europe playing WoW (possibly less)

Paying $15 monthly and $50 each year for a new expansion.

Thats $184,000,000 yearly income (before taxes)

    ________________________________________________

Now you figure out why they give away WoW and expansions for free in china.

doesnt matter how much they make. its gonna burn some people in all the right places... tho this isnt something i've seen all over the news so i'll wait and see how much of a fuss this causes.

Then they need to base themselves in China, and present themselves as an asian developer, if that's their favored audience. Sorry, but I think this one is going to blow up in their faces.

Meh...sort of like prescription drugs, we here in the US pay much more for them than people in other countries..... just because we can.  There are some downsides to being one of the richer nations in the world vs one of the poorest...

  • If this is true about the Chinese getting the xpac for free. I will no longer buy any blizzard product until they give me something free cuz that is total and complete nonsense. If I see a press release about this I gotta say I will have a first class mailed letter mailed off to blizzard explaining how they can blow me.

The Chinese have to pay more for their "monthly" subscription, btw.

I frankly feel incredibly ripped off since I bought the expansion.... THEN they offered free trials...... Bastards... This is almost as bad as the WoW Credit Card they're trying to sell off.....

Quoting people doesn't make you clever, in fact, it makes you all the more stupid for not bothering to read the quotes you post in the first place.

    Calm down people :)
First, they had to wait over half a year for the expansion.
Second, most of us here make a lot more money than the average WoW-playing Chinese.
Third, Blizzard is a business, they can sell or give away their product pretty much how they want.

im not knowledgeable about where gold farmers really are from, but people claim they are mostly from china (idk though may be from other regions of the world, including wihtin the US), but its not fair giving them a free xpac when it is their country that ruins the economy by violating the EULA (that is if it is true)

  • DevourDevour Member Posts: 902

Basically, it seems that they can't produce the games for it, so they're giving it away free. And, that it's only going to the Chinese would bought the original game. *shrugs*

    My guesstimation, anyway.

Ranlawl: You are right, you aren't knowledgeable.

Farming gold on Chinese accounts (the ones that get the expansion for free) doesn't affect us at all.  It's the foreign players with Western accounts that are farming gold to sell to us, and of course western accounts require that you purchase the expansion (if you want the expansion, that is).

So there's no free ride for gold farmers.  I feel stupider already for stating the obvious.  Of course someone is going to call me a fanboy now, for daring to use simple logic in response to vitriolic nonsense.

Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...

Blizzard do not run WoW in china, they license the game to The9, so probably The9 struck a deal with blizzard  to provide the expansion for free.. and for a large sum of money no doubt, remember china is a different market and maybe paid expansions dont go down well in the mostly F2P world of MMO's over there.

People need to stop complaining about the subscribtion system in China. Stop acting like you actually know how much they pay over there. Just because they *can pay less, most pay more per month than subscribers in NA, EU, or Australia. They buy time cards with hours on them. Now it may look cheap at first, but calculate how much time the average player over there spends on the game (and yes I have been over there and I have seen how much they play the game) and the end result per month is often significantly higher than the flat monthly fee that we pay.

So, if anything, stop complaining about how good they have it. The difference of the amount of money individual players pay Blizz every month more than makes up for the free expansion. Also, they had to wait more than half a year later.

In the end, logic and reason always beat out fanboys.

Average person would have to spend 11 hours a day every day playing WoW to make it cost $15 monthly in china... and with average income that takes 40 hours of work to pay off... which leaves 200ish hours left in the month after MINIMAL sleep... which is a monthly income of  (on average) $75 ...which can't be the case because the average income is well over $1000 US...so obviously they arn't playing 11 hours every day and in fact do pay less then everyone else in monthly subscriptions.

I wouldnt call it a downside, those people down there have to work hard just to put food in the table not to mention they live in a Communist country where their rights are limited compared to ours. To us 30 dollars for an x pac for a game that we like is really nothing, we have so much but yet we get angry because China is getting TBC for free, good God people, look at how blessed you are and where you live.

Well, let's go with that philosophy then.

First, every US/EU customer shoulsd not buy any expansion for the first 6 months it's released. It's onlt fair for the US/EU players to show support for the poor Chinese players by waiting with them, right?

Second. argument doesn't wash. If they're that poor, they shouldn't be playing games, should they?

Third, I agree. And as a business, they also have the right to be taught you can't favor one culture/market over another without repercussions.

Oh, my. A personal attack. I'm shaking in my cyber boots.

Come back when you have something real to add.

By the way, if you wish to discuss ignorance, you yourself seem to think that we in NA/EU pay more than the Chinese do. So, which market do you want to piss off if you are a business, the ones who pay more or less?
