If it isn't entirely too much trouble, i would really enjoy giving this game a shot. The only thing that has been keeping me back is the 50.00 price tag plus the monthly fee. In celebration of the 3rd year anniversary of City of Heroes, active players have been given Buddy Serial Codes. These are different from free trials; in addition to the 10-days of game time, your buddy gets full access to CoH & CoV. Should your buddy want to keep playing after the 10 days, he only needs to purchase subscription time.
If you would like one, post here and hopefully, some benevolent players will still have theirs to share. Please don't forget to thank your benefactor and edit your post if you receive one.
I'm not sure about referrals not having to buy the game -- I though special codes were directly mailed to existing subscribers that could have the free retail upgrade. Otherwise, for the refer a friend process it explictly says they do....

How does it work?
E-mail your friend a 10-day trial serial code by entering the requested information and clicking the Invite a Friend button below.
When your friend activates the trial account to a full retail account by buying a retail box or buying a direct digital download and then pays for their first month of subscription (excluding any periods of play included with the product purchase), you will have one month of free game time credited to your City of Heroes®/City of Villains® account.
You can have a maximum of 4 invites 'live' at any one time. As soon as one of your friends converts to a standard account, we'll give you another one to send to someone else. If your first batch of four invites is successful with all four friends converting to a standard account and each buying one month of subscription (excluding any periods of play included with the product purchase), you'll get four months of City of Heroes®/City of Villains® for free! Recruit more friends for more free game time!
You will only receive your free game time if your friend converts to a paid subscription within two months of the invitation being sent. Be sure to remind them to activate their account before time runs out!
