Favorite Class in an MMO

Cabe2323Cabe2323 Member Posts: 2,939

So I was thinking back and through all of the MMOs you have played what is your favorite class?

I think mine is either my Tank/life/Archer on Asheron's Call 1 or my Savage on Dark age of Camelot.

How about you guys?

Currently playing:
LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)

Looking Foward too:
Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)

I liked my characters on AC a lot.  I had a dagger/life spec'd character before they nerfed triple strike, then I switched that to crossbow, and that was a lot of fun as well.  I also really liked my warlock in WoW.  My Illusionist in EQ2 is pretty sweet, too.

    First, Cabe, excellent quote!

Second, Cleric in Vanguard has been my favorite class in all the games I have played.

The Creature Handler/Rifleman combination in Star Wars Galaxies greatly appealed to me.

I try to pick the class that is closest to that combination in most MMORPGs I play.

By far my Necromancer in EQ1.  I just loved the fact that I could solo very well but in Groups I got to play so many different role.

In raids being the one that had to survive so I could save the raid from a full wipe.   Everything about my Necromancer was fun.

I like Warriors to, something about just standing toe to toe with some big boss dude, knowning if I die everyone dies.

SWG's Creature Handler pre-nerf was extremely overpowered, it was having a group of a nuker and two tanks all by yourself. And it wasn't like pets, in say, WoW, because CH pets had more HP and armor than a player and did about as much damage.

That said, Bounty Hunter was fun for me. Flexibile weapon choices, and you could hunt other players...how cool is that?

Noone even played CH until the NGE and then everyone moaned that it wasn't in the game lol. This was LA/SOE's fault for nerfing it to useless before hand and for taking it out but people looking for a excuse aswel to hate them more.

Favorite had to be my UO Bard/swordsmen/healing template.

Well they do have some skill based still running, like UO, Ryzom, or EVE.

Overall my most favorite class would be Vanguard's Ranger class.  Compared to other games that have ranger classes like EQ2 or GW, I feel they actually did the best job overall in making it what it should be.

QFT. Where have all the skill-based MMO's gone?

    Hmmm

Daoc had to be the Hunter (before it got nerfed to hell over every patch update) and became so crap after that. After that it was the runemaster.

EQ2 had to be the wizard.

WoW to me it has to be the Hunter again. Dont know why, i just liked the class, even when it was being nerfed left right and center. Poor for PvP but damn it still rocked at PvE. When i say poor for PvP i ment Solo, grouped up it was great.

Vanguard, again a choice of 2 here, Ranger and Cleric. Though the ranger was my main character.

So as you can see there, i tend to have a trend for teh Hunter/ranger class, though it does really relay on how well that class has been done in that game.

    Some of my favorites:

SWG Dancer/Image Designer: Probably one of the most social experiences I've ever had in an MMO and had the best time with.

Lineage 2 Blade Dancer: Just silly amounts of fun with double blades buffing your side in an all out war... silly :)

Saga of Ryzom: Everything... love the skill system in Ryzom where you can be all and do all, very cool. To bad it's so an absolute bore to level after a while.

MxO Hacker/Patcher: Personally I think MxO is probably one of the best class/skill systems ever designed, it's just unfortunate it was designed around such a piss poor game.

i absolutely loved playing my necromancer in daoc. the way the class was designed was amazing. you actually summon your pet and play through it as if it is your character. i loved every minute of playing the class. i eventually stopped playing due to tons of bugs through pvp and i just lost interest in the game after a while. but this would be my favorite class out of any game ive ever played.

I usually like the classes that feel really unique from any other MMO.

Alchemist class from EQOA leather wearing, explosive potion throwing, casters that can turn into Ogres.

Druids on WoW is pretty fun too.

Bards on Vanguard are really cool, pretty sweet to pick  from a list of different parts (different buffs) and combine them into one super buff. some things costed mana/sec some reduced had to use the right mix so it didn't run your mana out.

    In order....

    1. The Hunter in LoTRO.  Tons of damage at range with good crowd control and some nice melee combos.  Plus a get out of jail free teleport and a whole party run speed buff.

    2. Shadow Knight in EQOA was my favorite incarnation of the class out of the three versions (too bad the game slightly bites).

    3. Scribe in EQ II.

    4. Master mind archetype in CoV.  All of their primaries are really fun.

    5. Runemaster in DAoC.

I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.

A Thief, and just for clarity.  Not a rogue a thief.  Someone who steals, lies, traps, cons, and does cheap blows.  Not a high DPS weak armor fighter.

    Mastermind in CoV

Teras Kasi/Combat Medic in the prime days of SWG

    Assassin in Guild Wars

    Reaver Pilot in Planetside

    Blademaster in Cabal

    Rogue in WoW

    Scavenger in L2

Now my favorite crafting class.. potions, man!

  • ugh , so tough ...

It was probably my old Druid in EQ1  , though my Monk was a close 2nd. (or maybe the Necro)

hmmm you know what , I really enjoyed the classes in EQ1 as a whole - of course after a while the game mechanics started to wear you down ... such as my ever-med nights staring at the book or the "hell" lvs but I can not deny the fun on dragging several gobbys in the Lake of Ill Omen or cats on that little island in Velious behind me and watching them all fall in the end hehe.

Teras Kasi Artist in PreCU SWG.

I'd have to say that my TKM/MFencer and my TKM/MPike w/ some doc skills for healing on both was my favority. I could tank, deal dmg w/ my fencer and aoe dmg w/ my pikeman.

Now as far as fantasy classes go, I have a few. My Thane in DAoC was entertaining; as was my Templar in Shadowbane (think tank w/ lifetap powers); and from what I played on my Paladin in Vanguard, it was an interesting class. It combined classic MMO Pally skills and healing abilities with DnD abilities.

You know, the more I think about it, the more I think it is impossible to choose a favorite. Because I have played over 12 MMORPGs and most have something unique that makes it rank as a favorite class. I mean, imagine all of the possibilities w/ just CoX alone.

MMORPG's w/ Max level characters: DAoC, SWG, & WoW

    Currently Playing: WAR
Preferred Playstyle: Roleplay/adventurous, in a sandbox game.
