I understand that you can't always take the time to type everything properly, especially when you're in the middle of things, but that's still absolutely no reason to type like that. I'm more than certain that it actually takes more time and thinking to type in leet speak than it does to do it correctly. Perhaps they should be using those extra brain cells for something useful?
When I have to reread your post multiple times just to get a general understanding of what you're trying to say, I think something's wrong.
This Poll is kinda funny. Of course everyone is going to vote for the same thing. If you havnt noticed there is considerably more people in this community that take the time to spell and atleast try to sound somewhat inteligent. ( I fail myself sometimes :P).
If you goto another community or ask in some MMO's, such as guild wars or even wow somtimes, you will get a different response.
I knew a guy who never read a book in his life, and never went to college. The only reading or typing he ever did was related to WoW.
Boy, was he dumb. He didn't think so, though. He thought he was a great communicator. Nobody had the heart to tell him the truth.
I see so many poorly written posts in MMO forums, I always think of him when I read one that has poor grammar/spelling, or just doesn't make any sense at all.

AAH! A troll fire! Quick, pour some Kool-Aid on it!!!
i vote for pretentious blowhards like yourself who think classism is ok and that ones speech is indicative of their maturity level or point of view.
You must be, what, 19 at best? Edit: nope, a 33 year-old that thinks like a 19 year-old. Screen-shotting this for its classic-issity.
As long as we control the money, we control the world. NOW DO AS WE SAY!!!
people like you are what is wrong with the world. you can thank people that think like this for terrorism, murder, racism, and child molestation.
Thanks for that. The entire community here is now dumber for having read that. I think I'll bring this in to my high school students so we can laugh at you.
MMO games played or tested: EQ, DAoC, Archlord, Auto Assault, CoH, CoV, EQ2, EVE, Guild Wars, Hellgate: London, Linneage II, LOTRO, MxO, Planetside, SWG, Sword of the New World, Tabula Rasa, Vanguard, WWIIOL, WOW, Age of Conan
The way I type in these forums, casual in diction yet proper in spelling and grammer (mostly, excluding the occational misspelling), is the same way I type my messages in game and I would prefer that everyone use proper spelling and grammer.
I am not a stickler about punctuation though, considering that most in-game chat text is being displayed in a chat bubble I do not see the need for a period. Question marks and exclamation marks are still needed to dictate what kind of senctence someone is typing, and I think that commas are needed to seperate clauses for easier reading, so maybe I am a stickler for punctuation.
Don't you worry little buddy. You're dealing with a man of honor. However, honor requires a higher percentage of profit
Well, I don't really care, as long as you get the general meaning of what you're trying to say. I play with a few Taiwanese players on my EQ2 server, they don't type perfect English but you can understand what they're trying to say. They're two of my favourite players to play with they're fun to be around and really helpful.
I think people who worry about someone having correct grammer in a MMO needs to find something better to do honestly. It's a waste of time, as if some random stranger telling another stranger they need to spell a word correctly is gonna make em change...lol ...I see it often in EQ2 especially, people correcting a person's spelling as a comeback, even if they have a really interesting response to a topic we all might be discussing. People play MMOs to unwind, relax and/or just have a good time not to be berated by silly MMO grammer police. Just my 2 cents...grammer police need to stay away from MMOs no one asked for them.
I think people should at least try to write with good grammar and correct spelling. I for example can't, because my nature language isn't english. That how ever doesn't stop me for trying. I think all abbreviation talking belong to real time chats. Forum You do have time to write right, so don't be lazy.
Also one think does little annoy me. How come some people don't know what sentence and paragraphs are? I mean usually sentence starts with big letter and ends to dot. That can't be too hard, can it?
I typically go with good grammar as a personal preference. However, in some situations, what is best is to conform with your immediate community. Imagine a CS match where everyone speaks in 1337 speak, you're not going in there and start typing full, grammar-police kind of sentences with a high level of vocabulary. Communications is about getting the message across and understanding each other, so if no one understands you, that's not really going to help things.
Simply because I use to type terribly wrong. I didn't use any 1337 or Chat etc., unless I was just trying to be funny. But I never typed in full paragraphs until I became use to how a keyboard worked, and hung around places/people/games that used proper grammar. Now, in MMOs, I don't really mind anyone talking this way. I still use proper grammar, and can type relatively fast with it in game. However, sometimes seeing people type with Chat speak just looks like a form of laziness to me. And if that person can't type in English, then learning the Chat speak way isn't going to help them in the long run.
I really don't see a problem with typing proper grammar. It will help the person reading to understand you. I'll never use Chat or 1337 in anything I type. That said, I'm still not the best at typing/spelling properly either. I still get things wrong, but I think I'm kind of good at it for the record. I can't say much though, since chatting improperly has been around for quite some time. I would know, I started my internet journey a good while back in chat rooms, yep...good ol' Yahoo! Chat Rooms. It was horrifying now that I think of those memories.
To conclude... If you type the way you know how to type, then by all means type that way. If you can't type proper grammar or spell correctly, who cares, just so the people you talk to can understand your words. Again, I see it as laziness sometimes, but really I don't mind, and don't treat people different if they type improperly or not. It doesn't bother me. I'll continue to type the way I type though, and won't change that.
Proper grammar is what I would prefer, but 1337 just for fun.Unt1l s0m30n3 b3g1ns t0 t4lk like this..which surprisingly is funny because I have met a few people who type like that. I'm sure they were kidding, well, I hope so lol.

Just saying "u" instead of "you" is very annoying.
Easy: Good grammar and correct spelling.
I voted for correct grammar and spelling.

I really don't care either way. 1337 speak never bothered me much even if I had to decipher it.

I wish the ignore list allowed a lot more names, I would eventually end up with a quiet and readable world.
