Yeah I found it very boring myself, boring races, boring classes, boring lore, I mean I like LOTRO, but there isn't enough to make a MMO out of it, 'fake' pvp, the pvp in this game is about as immersive as WoW's (not very). It has a few nice concepts, and great graphics but it seems more like a carebear lets be friends game, not that there is anything wrong with that.
Just not my cup of tea, when I play it, it makes me sleepy.
I haven't been able to play any MMO for more than 2 weeks without getting bored for the past 3-4 years... Until now. I've been playing LOTRO for just under a month and I'm still going strong. So to answer your question, no, I actually find it far from boring.
Honestly, I found the game to be ... well, enjoyable. It seemed like a good game...
My problem was that it wasn't a great game. I came to the coclusion there was nothing I hadn't seen before. Sure, I hadn't seen all the stuff in one place before, but it lacked new thinking. Yes, most games out there ain't very original. I think that's the way of men.
When LOTR became a movie a few years back, there was a rush of "new" and "exciting" fantasy movies on the marked. Suddenly it was cool to watch fantasy, so more movies of that genre was produced. Same happened with the "superhero" theme... And by the look of previous movies, I'm pretty sure using narcotics as a theme happened in much the same way... I'm so sick of those...
Unfortunatly, tough increasing the choices of different objectives is good, it still ain't very original to ride the wave of previous hits. Wheter it be movies, games or other stuff. It does help in the way that if you don't like one, you have other choices, which is a very good thing. But it doesn't help those of us who thinks we've already seen it all. Then we need something new and creative, and that seems to be problem for most of the buisnesses out there since it's easier to re-do something someone else has done before you and be garantied a player base than to take a leap of faith and go where no gamemovie has gone before.
In general there are two ways to score in MMORPG's .... create something that already excists ( alternative ) or use a theme that already has a fanbase. Wheter it be StarWars, StarTrek, LOTR, Warcraft, Warhammer or others. It's a fact that new inventive games that has the potential to be great doesn't grow as fast in playerbase... it's a pity really...
The game has no originality, by 25 i was soooooo bored, none of the classes seem to be very original the whole thing gets very repetittive.
Trolling? flaming? dont worry, I found it boring too, but it you put a post like this you will be... asskicked by fanbois or something else cause you are flaming or trolling, so, if you dont like is better you to shut up, here is only welcomed the "how a wonderful game is this!"

I think the reason people assume that is trolling or just flaming is because saying LoTRo is lacking originality is in this day and age is sort of like calling the sky blue. A lot of the lore, the monsters, the classes even, were very original back when they were conceived. The game had to adhere to the lore as closely as possible, it wasnt like they could come up and start creating crazy magic users or something. I have yet to see any game on this site that people didnt bash for being boring in some manner, but saying the classes or monsters in LoTRo are unoriginal is rather silly IMO. They were once very original but have been mimicked and transformed etc over the many years since they were created.
I personally havnt found the game to be boring. I have been playing since a little after release and am level 33. Some nights, sure, I get bored of playing now and then, but that happens with all MMO's with me. Over the past year or so I have tried EQ2, Vanguard, Guild Wars, Rappelz, and probably one or two other smaller ones and this is the only one that has kept my attention for more than a month or so.
I will agree that it gets repetitive but well, if you can find a MMORPG that does not I will gladly give it a try because I have yet to play one that doesnt, most video games are inherently.
game has 7 classes and 4 races. Yawn i mean lotro has nothing original EQ2 has ratonga, frogloks very original to EQ2. WoW has the draenei and the forsaken which are very original to WoW, i dont know of any other mmos that allow you to play a undead role. Lotro a supposed next gen rpg i know trying to stick to the lotro lore as much as possible but they can event some originality into itsself also.

A few things....
No, they could not create a new playable race.
But, what does it even matter? Its a character with stats, does it really matter if its a Dwarf of something "new"? Either way you control it and beat on things for rewards.
Where did they say it was next gen? I dont remember ever hearing this until now. The last game I knew of that was supposedly next-gen was Vanguard...
Either way, each to their own, its not worth debating if its original or not as I already agreed that the game as far as the races and monsters is not original based on existing MMO's. The lore use to be, but it is old and is mimicked all over the place and has been for years. To me, its a fun game and I could care less if I am playing a Dwarf of some slimy creature that they made up for the game, the experience of playing wouldnt change for me just because of that.
The UD in WoW were cool though, I give you that, but, apples and oranges here.
I would never say its the best game ever though. I bought it as a filler until WAR and it has proven to be better than I expected but definitely not the greatest thing ever made. I play it a heck of a lot more than anything else I have tried recently though.

Yay I was just kidding a bit that you can say nothing that people dont like, its trolling or something else or whatever, cause you dont put in a forum "this game is awesome" you will be flamed or trolled away by everyone that plays it or fanbois. I found boring lotro, perhaps you like it, but it nothing bad in comment why you found it boring and perhaps, improve it, or perhaps, if the devs want to listen to the comunity, or, talk with other players that cant do nothing and flame each others a little bit cause everyone is in a nonexisting war defending its own game... so... thats it .
Almost all mmorpg ends being boring, almost all games ends this way, almost everything in life ends being repetitive, the community and the way you do it, like a game or like a competitive hard work instead of fun is the things that changes the point of view, or the fun taked one day you play for cassual, or the boring competitive leveling for hardcore ones
I played LOTRO back in beta, and I thought it was the most polished and expansive beta I have ever seen.
After launch, I found that the economy was alive and very useful, as many of the best items in the game are ultimately crafted... but make no mistake, not just anyone can master these crafts, taking sometimes 5-10 players funneling resources. I think this feature is rare if not unique in mmo's with the exception of possibly eve, although I feel eve has replaced character advancement through crafting with economic advantage, but that's just my opinion. Either way, having been an engineer in WoW, I think you can feel my pain with the useless items that the crafting system could produce.
As for classes, tolkien patented and perfected the arcane atmosphere that most mmo's have glomed onto. If not for LOTR, we likely would never even know what an elf is, let alone have the entire elvish language. If you are a fan of the genre, you will find lotro to be very pleasing, since unlike some mmo's (dark paladins in wow) lotro will not compromise the lore of that world. Yes, it makes it a little dry at times, god knows I want to fly a dragon as much as everyone else, but too many dragons and the world just gets silly.
So in a way, I guess I agree with the poster that the world is a little boring, but it has great mechanics, best story I have ever seen in an MMO (obviously the movie made billions), a great crafting system, and an absolutely HUGE world that is ever-expanding just like the budget!
I do wish there was less restriced pvp, but I think this game just takes some emersion, and if you play the game without reading the books, you are missing out on a large amount of the perspective required to appreciate the game.
I played LOTRO in closed and open beta and ended up earning founder status for the game. I got my human burglar up to level 42 and then cancelled my account and am moving on to other MMO's. The reason I left was that it did get boring after a while. Yes it was new but not enough of it was intriguing to keep me in the game. I think LOTRO might have a good future to it but for now it is just afloat.

LOTRO is only as boring as every other MMO out right now. More than likely, Id get bored with any of them after a few months.
And, you cant say that LOTRO isnt original, because the LOTR lore is THE original fantasy lore. Pretty much every fantasy MMO has ripped something out of Middle Earth. Of course, you could say the game design in LOTRO isnt original, as they basically followed the WOW model of taking the what s already been done and giving it some polish.
Actually you did not have to buy the full lifetime subscription to gain founder status. That is what I thought too until I did some more digging. As for calling me a liar that is your opinion and I am sorry you feel that way. I was just trying to get involded in the conversation.

And as was stated a little bit earlier...All of these people that say LOTR is unoriginal cracks me up. JRR Tolkien evented the fantasy genre. Almost every aspect of your favorite fantasy game was born of his ideas. Elves, dwarves, orcs, hobbits, etc. did not exist before LOTR and D&D took it to the next level.
So if you are going to attack the game play for unoriginality all right, but attacking it because of unoriginal classes and character types, I don't think so.

I played it in CB and OB and found it to be like most other games that have come out in the last 2-3 years, basically WoW re-skinned with a few extra features that were in other games also. It got very old very fast. I had fun playing for a while but in my opinion the replay value was nonexistent so I never subscribed. Until MMO's break out of the WoW phase they seem to be stuck in I've pretty much given up on anything new actually being new. Show me a fantasy based mmo what is original plx.
This is an RP'ers game. If you dont like RP you will not enjoy this game. Simple as that really.
Every mmo has some originality feel too it that sets it apart from other games, you just dont feel that with lOTRO

Playing since beta.
It is getting better and better with every update. The first MMO that will probably last for years on my PC.
It is not the game that gets boring, it is your playing style...

Try again
LOL....smells like and alternate account. Congrats on your first post being a flame with a solid personal attack. Five months of tension just make you pop?And as was stated a little bit earlier...All of these people that say LOTR is unoriginal cracks me up.
No alternate account my friend. It was just some child posting rage. I respect your opinion from your post and you are correct. I guess I am just looking for a change of pace from LOTRO. All in all I think LOTRO has a bright future....it is just not for me at this time.
